[BTS] SGOTM 26 - Home Slices

2 clams with plains tiles is poop on a normal map. :ack:

We had high ambitions at the start.
Agreed. We only had 7 cities so we were being very selective. I'm not sure that I could have been convinced to settle 2 Clams on T5 (or even T10) because I was always assuming that there would be something better just out of view, maybe something with some happiness resources. Didn't we know that we were in the north which let us to believe that we'd find greener pastures further south?

WT mentioned deleting our army a few pages ago. Should we consider that now? I think we have three options:

1. Delete most of the army now.
2. Keep the army and try to pick off a city after the AI have beat on it for a while and bombarded the defenses for us.
3. Build more troops and try to take another city.

I'm leaning toward option 1. It's costing us maintenance that we may not recover depending on if/when we are able to sack another city without any siege.

I remember towards the end of my turnset, the army maint costs 5bpt only. Now it should be 0 maint.
We had no interest in sushi until (seeing Peter's seafood) we hoped/calculated sushi might give 30+ food and dreamed there would also be some calendar happies around for that to work, but when the map was revealed, we didn't stop and change the plan.
By then, I don't know about ya'all, but I forgot that Medicine was not even required :old: We probably woulda done free Radio for 9360:science:.
Actually this is the primary reason why I join this game. I have a lot to say.

I'm not sure which spy should have priority right now.

More gold from from Aachen is nice, but poison water at Clam City (UN) or sabotage build in Canal City would be really bad.

Maybe switch :espionage: back to Sitting Bull for 4 turns.

We had totally irrational ambitions:

SGOTM 26 Announcement - Lady Stoneheart, Queen of the Ice Age

Winter has come - such a long, long Winter that Summer is regarded as a myth, no living person can remember the warmer times. Food is scarce, the land is tough, little grows, some animals are extinct - unable to exist in such harsh conditions.”

There was nothing normal about this map. But my point is that much later on WT analyzed the potential of clams and it has bery high hammer and pop potential. Far more than what had already revealed on T5, which was quite a bit.

I’m curious to read PR’s early analysis snd decision to settle there.

We should have trusted the mapmaker.

Settled the Clam City earlier than T69.

Ya, we were hoping for Shangri-La on the northern island or far south or beyond to the west. That all turned out to be a dud and we spent a lot of early hammers on exploring wbs, galleys and exploring units to figure that out. Had thre been an awesome city up there to reward early exploration, things would have been different. Normally, early exploration has paid off but not so much this game.

EDIT: xpost with LC We were all looking around the next corner...

Wow, the 2 super Longbows died holding off Saladin and Bismarck.
We steal the city kill

Mm, we probably don't have nearly enough :espionage: to steal the :gold: from the final HRE city.

I think the value of a resource is determined by tech. Kaitzilla tested iron cost only 70- but after we get steel it costs 60+horse+a bunch of other resources. If AI cannot make use of it, they will not pay a high price I think. Just get 1 for ourselves.

Once the last city of HRE falls, we cease fire with SB and sign defensive pact with 3 Hindu countries?

These scare me. If you sign one, you can get -2 diplo from the others and some AI won't sign unless friendly. We can probably do it, but have to be careful. Maybe all war on SB is better.

Isn't Defensive Pact +1 diplo with the AI and -1 Diplo with all the other AI?
I don't use them much.
