SGOTM21 Lurker's Thread

Afaik, the GG comes from the city in which the victorious unit was built.

Thanks for this. Nice to know. I had always assumed it was random but with some weighting towards hammer cities. Now it makes sense that this was just because more of the units that won the key battle came from those cities! :)

You can also get more XP when defending, 1XP is afaik only the xp when withdrawing, or is that wrong? O_o at least I strongly believe that I have seen AI got more than 1XP when defending.

Could be you get more XP when winning on the defence with poor odds too, but not sure about that. The popup window for combat shows how much XP you will get for each battle, and it increases with low odds. Maybe it works the same when defending?

Horses that also kill several siege in the same attack, do they get 1XP per siege unit killed on top of the actual battle?

Looks like a tight race between PD and TSR, and both seem to see the light at the end of the tunnel now.

I didn't know that fact either. I don't think PR ever mentioned that once. Useful to know now. I had a GG appear on an island on my last game and I was wondering why it appeared in such a random place. I wonder how many of the team know this or think to plan around this?

From what I can gather, both PD and TSR are going for Domination and think they can finish around T175-180. Who do you think will win?

I bet on TSR. PD got overall good players, but TSR has WastinTime, and I trust in him aswell as in the team itself.

2 months ago I placed my bet on 1. TSR 2. PD 3. XTeam.

I stick with this though I'm a bit unsure about XTeams choice of VC. They are aiming for an AP victory and as a consequence they have limited their warring and are now falling behind in empire size. Could turn out to be costly.

I think TSR probably has 1st at this point. PD's edge recently has been in raw commerce, but TSR has now bridged that gap and actually passed them by a little bit. They are also much further ahead with the warring to the point that they can afford to build research in many cities. They are several techs ahead now.

I do see a couple things in PD's favor right now, but I just have a feeling it's too late to parlay these into a victory.

-They are only working on their 800GPP great person whereas TSR is at 1800 already. TSR does have 2 sitting around though and are close to a 3rd for another golden age. PD needs gold pretty badly.

-Mansa is teching Constitution for them so that's a few thousand beakers saved. Mansa is teching Edu (6T) in TSR's game and it looks like they've given up on feeding him techs and trying to get Constitution for free. That will gain PD about a turn or so in the tech race.

Kossin is back to work some late game magic though so I can't rule them out entirely.

I agree with that, things look a little better for TSR now. Being able to build Research is a good luxury, while PD plan to get many GMs for trade missions to be able to tech at 100%. Both teams are obviously very, very good though, so it will probably be close in the end.

Very interesting comparison :) . Thx Izuul and Pangaea :) . Remember, I wrote TSR will win this because they got WastinTime and I trust in their team. Now look at the war plan WastinTime worked out for their last target izzy. I never have seen something like that, I never would have believed that anybody puts so much work into a CIV game. Lowthercastle even calculates their winning odds, so they know how much units they need / city probably. It's nothing more than absolutely stunishing. Hearing that kossin tries to work out some late game magic sounds also interesting, would be nice if someone could report on that, because not all are reading the PD-thread, simply because reading any team's thread already costs a lot of time.

I don't want to put anybody down with this, but there was talk of Phoenix Rising playing a possibly Gold-winning game: I agree, that their game was really good and that especially Fippy put a lot of work in this. Still, I don't believe any team could win against what TSR has shown, especially 'til the end. For me, they really deserve to win the Gold. Not that other teams didn't make a great effort, not at all. To me, TSR's planning is of the world. I already was astonished at some posts of Kaitzilla in PDs thread, but what TSR currently shows can only hardly be commented on with words imo..

I hope the effort of both, Kaitzilla and WastinTime will make people think more positive about HoF players, because there were many quarrels in the past. SGOTM brings players together though, so it's really time to stop the arguments and simply accept, that HoF also has extremely dedicated and good players, who are very nice on top.

Well i was a part of PR, and i honestly believe we probably would've been playing for 3rd again. We did have a nice game going, but TSR and PD have shown in the past that they separate themselves from us in the late game with their incredible planning and knowledge for the game, and that likely would've been the case here too.

@Pangaea - I was made aware of the avoid growth trick in one of Kossin's micro challenges on the S&T forum. If you aren't familiar with those you should search for them at some point. There might even be a link to the series in Kossin's signature.

I've followed the PD thread more closely than TSR, and I've been mighty impressed at some of the plans they have posted too, maybe in particular Doshin. The details these two teams go into is truly staggering.

Doshin also posted some micro tricks at some point. I don't recall all (not sure I understood all either), but one was to put on avoid growth for a turn if a city would grow and finish the granary in the same turn. That way you get some free food when it does grow. If I recall that correctly, that is. I've used it a couple of times since in my games, and it seems to work well.

They'll be quite exhausted once this game is over, I guess :)
Some have already quit. Looking at who's still posting, it currently seems TSR is down to mostly 2 people.

Btw I got a scenario in the making that would be very relaxed compared to this one. And more newbie friendly.

/waves ;)
3rd place was always most likely for PR yeps, different team structures.
Not the same dedication and amount of high level players, but Izuul was our city micro master ~~
Oh well, wish i had taken such breaks earlier i am already a different person (again). Have fun everybody!
