SGOTM6 - Team tao

I did want to finish tonight, but I've just disbanded another Infantry into Wealth :( I have done most of the rushes using population and have 17 draftees left. Most of the foreign workers have also been disbanded (10 disband for 20 shields, but it takes all 10 to fell forest for 10 shields) leaving mostly native workers left. The majority of our Army is still intact. I've yet to do the pop 7 cities with Markets. I don't want to waste any more so will have to finish tomorrow.

So once you're done with the whip and the pressgangs and the axe (disbanding), our total population will be approximately equal to our number of cities? :p

What a way to end a game!

And imagine having just one lone soldier left to guard the empire! :mischief:

Would the last soldier to leave the front please turn out the lights.

Well there's no rush and no one waiting to play their turn after you so do it at your pace. This is incredible BTW. We started the turn set thinking that we might manage a turn of the century finish but you and Keath have blown that target away. :worship:

Well it looks like I'm taking you up on that, unfortunately I got home from work late and am still finding stuff to rush.

Total so far is:
7 Temples
11 Libraries
28 Cathedrals
46 Coliseums
giving +223cpt. Still some more draftees left and most of the Army, and even some workers. MapStat says we have 588 citizens of which 115 are tax collectors - that's in 347 cities! I'll probably not disband all the army, probably keep the Armies, maintain the barracade across the top bewteen us and Babylon and maybe some troops in the outlying cities. Although I can't remember what an Army disbands to - might be useful for a University somewhere?

I will finish tomorrow (I very much hope). I'm looking forward to being able to finally satisfy my curiosity and lurk in some of the other threads.

I *think* that an army costs the same in vanilla as C3C which is 400 so will presumably give 100 shields when disbanded.

OK, I'm nearly ready to press the button....

We are down to the 2 Armies, 20 Infantry and 20 Cavalry.

I have rushed:
7 Temples
15 Libraries
36 Temples
51 Coliseums
to give +269cpt. All our unused workers have been disbanded. The question is how much more of the Army goes? The remainder is blocking the route into our main territory from Babylon, the towns around the French towns and in the American and Viking Sectors. The more I disband, the more likely we are to be attacked. I suppose we could gift the strongest Civs, but we have per turn deals with them already so I'm not sure how much difference it makes. Considering we will achieve 100k next turn (by approx 340), how far do we push it?

I don't think it's worth pushing it any harder than it's already been pushed, but that's just me. I'm willing to wait on the others' opinions. (Of course I am; it's not my mouse-button finger that's on the line here. ;))

Yay, Furiey, you did it!

Renata

Furiey, you (and Keath before you) did a fantastic job with this last set of turns. I agree that this should be good enough. :)

Agreed!

I think that you and Keath have gone way beyond the call of duty and as our leader suggested a while back, perhaps it is now just time to hit return (and start lurking in the other threads!)

You are in uncharted waters. Great job! :goodjob: I wouldn't have thought you could squeeze so much extra out of those final turns. :D Press the button and take a bow. :worship: :salute:

OK, I pressed the button and it took some time but,

We have achieved a Cultural Victory!

here's the log:

1380 AD (Turn 0): Culture 92822, gain last turn 2182

Gather Explorers together so I can find them quickly (37 plus one in the Viking Sector

Attack Vikings capturing Goteburg, Linkoping and Uppsala for 1 loss, but no leader and we have 3 resistors in Goteburg and Linkoping to deal with, the Viking capitol is Qitaimjorg.

Settle American Sector Settler on the spot – don’t want to waste a turn moving; Settle other Settler in Tundra area – may be able to chop for first 10 shields of the Temple and it won’t grow in time for pop rushing wherever it’s put so set citizen as taxman.

Draft Infantry (30 of them) and gather together near the Explorers so I can find them all.

While doing this; workers irrigate and rail to maximise growth in 1 (with mm) for maximum growth where it will aid rushes in the next 2 turns. Cities that cannot grow and their build can’t be rushed are set to Wealth and their citizens set to taxmen to pay for the upkeep of all this new culture.

This leaves 2 Explorers that can’t complete a rush this turn so I’ll save them for next in the N

Some cities still do not have culture yet – these are the ones that will grow to allow pop-rushing. The 2 new towns have Temples rushed.

Only 4 Settlers are built/rushed – culture in these new towns will have to be rushed anyway

Stop for the night.

Defeat Viking Militia (no leader) redline Viking Frigate; make peace, only getting 4 gold and map.

Route through from Babylon is blocked by a Bab Infantry on our rail so block route from Babylon (in Bab territory) by the Viking sector with 2 Workers to try and ensure we can get draftees through next turn.

Total Rushes:
19 Temples
5 Libraries
17 Cathedrals
6 Coliseums
1 University
Finally press button.

IBT: Babylon destroys the Americans; Bab Infantry clears route to Viking Sector; French clear route to Dave McWorgborg; We lose a source of coal; 2 of our drafting cities riot; starvation in Bizen and Linkoping

1385 AD (Turn 1): Culture 95131, gain last turn 2309 (+127)

As a result of the rioting we’ll have 2 less infantry this turn – they had been about to riot last turn but the draft reduced the pop and everyone was content, as they grew this turn the next citizen must have been unhappy so Civ saw it as 2 turns in a row and they rioted – I’ll have to remember this for next turn.

Start rushes:

Resistance has ended in Bizen but it has starved so have to rush the Temple with disbands anyway.

Grrr some of the cities I mmd to grow in 1 at size 6 didn’t have aqueducts! Rush Explorers in some for culture next turn, other disband Explorers in for culture this turn, which depends on shields required.

Finding the cities takes ages as they’re no longer in the same order as my list; rush down to the size 3 cities

Found 3 new cities and rush Temple with chops, mis move final Settler onto unroaded tile – it’ll have to build next turn.

Start size 3 cities and forget to change from an Explorer when disbanding an Infantry – 22 shields wasted! That following the Settler mis-move (and difficulty focussing on the monitor at all come to that) convinces me to stop for the night

Next day and I work my way through the remaining cities; rushing and disbanding to rush a total of:
12 Temples
12 Libraries
22 Cathedrals
16 Coliseums
1 University
IBT: French run about and a Destroyer is spotted near New Mohacs; Vikings, Babs and English also run about, but nothing significant; nothing riots.

1390 AD (Turn 2): Culture 97602, gain last turn 2471 (+162)

More rushing, the size 7 cities need to rush their Coliseums, drafting and disbanding Explorers/Workers if that give more net shields before rushing; Rushing started in earnest, using population were possible then disbands. Find more than expected; but run out of time (and brain cells)

Continue next day and still finding more rushes; Markets sold in size 7 cities to allow a market short rush to a Coliseum where needed; exceed the 200 mark in expected gain before the brain cells yet again give out.

Another day and more rushes to eventually bring the total to:
7 Temples
16 Libraries
36 Cathedrals
53 Coliseums
(I think)

IBT: Vikings, English, Carthage, French and Babs all do their running about – the Babs moving through the American sector are very worrying at first! Then we build stuff. Sometime later.....

1395 AD (Turn 3): Culture 100353, gain last turn 2751 (+280). We are Brennus the Magnificent

Final save before I pressed the button is attached in case you want to view the replay;
warning – it takes some time, not necessarily for the replay but to complete all the builds!

I did think this comment was appropriate....

Sweet, very sweet. It does make me wonder what we might've accomplished if all of us had taken as much time as you and Keath did those last nine turns. (Of course, if we had, we might not have finished until next year ... ;))

Happy happy joy joy happy happy joy joy.

You betcha I'm going to download this one. Back in a few.

Renata

Excellent news to start the new day. :goodjob: You and Keath really really deserve a lot of praise. IMHO the
GoldMedal.gif
goes to Keath because not only did he do a full ten turns of this "nightmare", but he also conquered us The Pyramids and Sun Tzu's!

Superbly played! :goodjob:

It has been a pleasure to lurk this for the last couple weeks, despite having to watch you overtake us in the end ;) You certainly earned it though

I've been thinking this too. I really wasn't aware of just how much extra culture could be squeezed out once the territory was gained and we were out of despotism. Well done guys!

Does this mean that we can look at other teams' threads now? Edit: I guess my old team mate KB has answered this one already!
