SGOTM6 - Xteam

Team Tao posted a 1380 save, but they are not over the 100K mark yet.

EDIT: looks like they're at about 93k.

They're doing well. They'll finish about 1400 AD, very close to Peanut.

Hmm... the flowing water* seems to have dried up... I think we need a prompt from Willowbrook... :hammer:

*The Chinese term for "spam" literally means "flowing water".

Hmm. I guess they are alike in as much as no one seems to know where they come from or where they go. But flowing water is far more useful than spam - you can wash in it, drink it, and extract energy from it. Spam (both kinds) just sits there, unpleasant pink stuff with a slimy texture and bad taste :D.

I don't know what my internet access will be like this weekend - I'm sublet-hunting in Chicago and visiting friends. So you may not hear much from me until Sunday evening. But I hope to have two more turns played by then.

Posted Friday, so no need to worry yet.

I'm just worried about our dried water... It can be hurtful for the spam competition...

I don't know the origins or the term "flowing water", but if you really want to know, you can ask Dann. :D

Peanut and Tao should both be completing their last turns if not already done and we still have 20+ turns so I don't think we'll have to worry about them catching us in the flowing water competition.

What if they start posting "Nice work team", ten thousand times? :hmm:

Oh, and on an unrelated note, I believe the baseball season starts today. :D

You must have kept Mistfit busy with adding Red Sox caps to all your avatars.

From reading Gotor01, it sounds like Mistfit is busy enough!   I get a feeling he'd prefer to return to his warmonger roots?? :p

I'm sure WillowBrook is in MM heaven, or is that purgatory?? :mischief:

@Tomoyo - even if they posted 50 attaboys each, I'm not sure they can top us in the spam count with 20 turns remaining!

Oh, I just found out that I won't be able to watch the game because it's on ESPN2 (whose idea was that?) and I have iO, which doesn't have ESPN(2) available.

Hi everyone! :wavey: I'm back.

I need to sleep, or I'd write more, but good job with the spam! I'm in 1260 right now, but am spending over 4 hours per turn.

I do have a place to live this summer, so one less thing to occupy my time. I'll post my turn log thus far tomorrow.

Flowing Water - sounds like a good city name. (I'm keeping myself amused coming up with inane names for the many towns I'm founding...)

Here's my turn-log so far:

1250 AD: Turn 0
hired more tax collectors (where it wouldn’t affect city growth)
tried to sell aqueduct in Ta-Tu (it’s size 2 and will never get better than 5-turn growth – useless for drafting), but can’t!?!? (find out later such things can’t be sold – how silly! )
sold a bunch of barracks.
Rushed some settlers
Sold saltpeter, dyes, and silks to French for 21 gpt (I decided to keep them horse-free)

We’re only losing 48 gpt!

Move around some military to our borders – I don’t trust anyone. Set some workers to chopping jungle.

Save game and quit.

Next morning: go through all towns again, reduce our deficit to 34 gpt; increase treasury to 6508 (barracks sold). We’ll only get just over 40 culture this turn, but we’ll build about 15 settlers each of the next two turns. I also changed a number of marketplace and aqueduct builds to universities.

Take deep breath, press enter.
All the cities that build something set to wealth (I’ll change later if necessary)
Beijing: Settler
Entremont: settler
Guangzhou: harbor
Allegheny: settler
Quingdao: settler
Eboracum 2: settler

1255 AD: Turn 1
we have 281 cities, 34426 culture
(since I didn’t install the newest version of mapstat, I won’t trust the cpt)
We also have just over half the world’s land

City builds: Food From Tundra, Rubies and Diamonds, This Land Is Your Land, Lost in Translation, Erosion, Here Is England, Hilltop, Bovine View, Ivory Fields, A Tree Falls, No Name

Drafted cities: New Richborough, Agedincum, Willowbrook, Deva 2, Lazy Summer, Glanum2
Used some rifles as defense in cities, sent two to Eboracum 3, disbanded 2 for temples (in RC 3 and Glanum 3)
Moved workers, put some of the settlers in position to build next turn.

Then go through all the cities and poprush:
New Rutupiae: Settler
Ta-Tu: Explorer
Edo: settler
Kazan: settler
Nanjing: settler
Theveste: settler

New Mohacs 2: cathedral
New Lezoux 2: library
New Durocortorum 2: library
Agedincum3: temple
Paris: settler

Go through and MM for food and gold, and well as deciding what cities need to start building something to be able to pop-rush next time.

I think we’re ready to press enter, but I’m going to sleep on it. We’re at -79 gpt

Go through cities again, noting the ones with significant happiness problems:
Mohacs, Cattaragus, Camulodunun, Ningpo.
Rush cathedral in Noviomagnus 2, losing 70 gpt at end
This review took 2 hours…

Press enter
Miscellaneous troop movement
All the above builds complete, towns put on wealth (to be changed later as appropriate)
And our people want to build the ironworks.
Save game and quit for now.
Realize I have another hour to play than my computer indicates due to being in a different time zone. Play another hour.

1260 AD: Turn 2
Culture: 36156; cities: 292
I note that both the English and Vikings are average to us militarily (and at war with each other). We continue to be weak to the Babs and Americans and strong to everyone else.

draft rifles in Deva 2, Nara, Lazy Summer, Glanum 2, Willowbrook, New Lugdunum, New Richborough
Rush marketplace in Lazy Summer due to unhappiness.

Found Shimmer, Crow’s Rest, Silk and Water, World’s Best Venison, Panama Lite, Amber Overlook, Extra Virgin, Baa, Yesterday, Water Everywhere, Mountain Pass

Much moving of workers, including ship-chaining a bunch to Old France.

Rushed builds:
Cattaragus: cathedral (with 1 rifle, 1 pop)
New Montguntiacum 2: cathedral
Eboracum 3: temple (with 1 rifle)
Hovd: explorer
New Curovernum: explorer
Durhan: explorer
New Segusio: cannon

I probably won't get to play at all today (see rant below), but should get several hours in each of the next few days and then finish up my turns on Friday.

Here's the latest save in case anyone's curious; there's much work to be done yet in 1260. I'm making sure to keep all my intermediate saves in case m-b has any questions about the number of reloads this turnset.

[rant]Not only do I have no time to play civ today, but I also miss the Cubs' opening game! :( [/rant]

Keep the water flowing! ;)

Good work, WillowBrook. Keep the culture flowing!

[EDIT] Here are the curves for the latest save. CPT per turn is dropping as the emphasis shifts to settlers. It should pick up again as the new towns start to get temples and libraries.

(since I didn’t install the newest version of mapstat, I won’t trust the cpt)
All you have to do is subtract the previous turns culture from this turn.. so you did:
34426-32717 = 1709cpt 41 increase
36156-34426 = 1730cpt 21 increase

We now need 75/turn to win in 1380
64/turn to win in 1385
54/turn to win in 1390
46/turn to win in 1395
38/turn to win in 1400

Judging from the culture graphs, it looks as though Ivan have found the accelerator pedal - I wonder if they are in time to catch us. And Row and Live have blinked - their cpt is not increasing, and they are falling back relative to the rest of our classic team competitors.

Both Ivan and Row and Live are way down on the score graphs thou, so they prolly are behind us in territory.

Talking about territory.. we should prolly take out Carthage and Iroquois.. we should be able to wipe them out easy with our existing military, and there is lots of high food land in that peninsula for new cities

Every city we capture costs us a cavalry or two. I don't know our current cav count, but if we drop too far we become vulnerable to Babs or America. But we do seem to be running out of city locations.

I've been playing with CivAssist - great program - and I note that our build orders are currently:

Units: 6 cannons, 22 explorers, 1 galleon = 780 shields total.
Settlers: 10.
Culture: 14 cathedrals, 7 libraries, 53 temples, 14 universities = 224 cpt total.
Improvements: 6 harbours, 7 markets.
The rest are on wealth.

If we can build all the culture in progress during the next two turns we'll be back on 60-70 cpt per turn average over the current set, and we'll be close to 2000 cpt at 1275 AD. If all the towns currently building temples then build libraries, and the towns building libraries build cathedrals, and the settlers in progress build temples, then we'll have another 200 cpt. That'll all have to happen by 1290 AD to keep the average up. Then we can build 50 cathedrals, 10 libraries and 7 universities for another 200 cpt up to 1305 AD. Meanwhile we'll need another tranche of settlers, and some space for them, in order to keep the ball rolling

but if we drop too far we become vulnerable to Babs or America.

Couldn't we trick the AI into thinking we're stronger than we really are by delaying the disbanding of Infantry for 1 turn? For example we draft 8 infantry in turn 1 and don't disband any of them. In turn 2 we draft 8 more infantry and disband the 8 drafted from turn 1. Even though we intend to disband them it would artifically increase our strenght during the IBT.

Or would the small number of infantry on hold not be enough to even change our position to BAB or AMR. There's also probably no way to get them to align with us to prevent them from aligning against us.
