SGOTM6 - Xteam

The ultimate warmonger's first win was cultural?? :spank:
"ultimate"? I think there are a few dozen higher-ranking GOTM players who would consider that a slight exaggeration :hmm: Actually my only previous submission was GOTM 20 (Spain, Deity  ), and I had attempted a diplo win. But in both games I quickly learnt that war, not '42', was the answer to civ-life, civ-universe, civ-everything.

Bet you built Spears, Rifles and Infantry too. :p
Probably not spears, as I was Greece, and I do remember not building any hoplites until quite late, when I specifically wanted them for upgrading to rifles/infantry/mech infantry. I checked out my final save, and it does have 100 MI, alongside my 178 modern armour. So although I hadn't seen the light then, my emphasis was going in the direction of offence even in those early days.

Well, perhaps I took a little poetic license, but not too much!! :mischief:
I just always love your posts when we get to discussions of building Spears or Pikes in the early game, which I completely agree with. If it ain't ready to attack, we don't need it... :goodjob:

My first game was GOTM 18 and my first several wins were by Spaceship. I built too many Spears and was afraid of war. Not any more!!
I remember reading everything SirPleb wrote and trying to learn to effectively trade. Of course, GOTM 18 was Carthage and you didn't meet another civ for half the game as it was an isolated start with islands everywhere.

M, I remember gotm 1, only played the qsc. But I did meet Egypt before 1000 BC iirc :)

I'm surprised you remember that far back!!

Have you played them all?? That's impressive!!

OK, I finished my 5 Sam turns, got to do a little killing over there, so now it's back to this culture stuff. I'll post an end of turn update later.

Looks like barring a catastrophe we should easily pass teams rowandlive and Ivan. They have a significantly lower Fixaris score, so I doubt they can achieve the same cpt and cptpt that we can.

Take your time and play well, Gator - no need to hurry! :)

How's this, I finally finished 1305AD, here's the log for it and the preturn.

preturn 1300AD
culture 51966
AMR & BAB have MPP
48 cities without any culture / 48 temples in process / 2 lib & 2 cath / 13 unis
draft 1 rifle
no gpt trades available
deal with happiness issue/ent/tax

Found: Squeezeville, India Post
other 2 settlers have already moved

Temple rushed: This Land is your land / Here is England / Suburban Sprawl / Thristy Hordes / Waiting for Electricity / Tomoyo's Place / Squeeze' em in / Death of a forest / Blue Ice / Too Late / Beaver Outpost / Part of the Problem / Rocky Lake / Deforestation / Ensweka Mirror / With Love / In and Around / Snug / Crowding Carthage / Last Stop / Straights / Wine & Elephants / Thisles [thats 23 on first pass] / French Chateau / Shimmer / I'm Here

We have about a dozen cities at 22 to 23 turns for temples, I'm out of explorers for this turn, so I'll skip these for now
We also have about a dozen in Old France which needs troops transported there

Settler rushes: New Glanum,
Univ rushed: Centralia
several partial rushes towards univ also

Finally hit enter

IBT - ENG doesn't complain about my accidently moved cannons
Niagara Falls market
Tonawanda market
Ratae Coritanorum market
Filnton market
Axima2 market
New Glanum settler
did not list the cultural builds that were rushed last turn
our culture expands into FRA Toulouse's terr which will allow me to build a city and bridge FRA influence to get to an open area for more settlers

Turn 251 - 1305AD
culture 54212 / 2246cpt
found Deer Hunter which claims 2 game from FRA and gives us passage to open fields
found New Tolosa3
found Wasteland
fix happiness issues
draft about 15 rifles

rushed temples: Crows Rest / Northwest Nowhere / Baa / Yesterday / Water Everywhere / Mountain Pass / Freeze Dried / Flowing Water / Not My Job / Sandy Beach / Cold Comfort / All Mine / Ironclad Encounters / Mining camp / Not Mine Either / India Post / Squeezeville / Smiths Haven / Summer Cottage / Lookout Point / West Orleans / Raisin Plantation / Deer Hunter [23]

rushed Libraries: New Lugdunum3 / Jonkoping / My Will / New Entremont3 / Jungle Paradise / Erosion / Here is England / Hilltop / Bovine View / New Gergovia3 [10]

rushed University: New Richborough2 (had to use a cav to finish it this turn, rest was pop) / New Glanum / New Lugdunum (used a cav & popped rest) / New Eboracum2 [4]

rushed cathedral: Cadiz / Segusio3 / New Richborough3 [3]

that should be 101 culture added this turn

our military (not counting ships and workers):1 explorer / 2 cannons / 3 rifles / 22 cavs

that should be 101 culture added this turn
Wow! Just like old times! Great stuff

Just finished the longest IBT I have ever had.

After drafting size 7 cities for rifles our military is now 53 explorers, 30 rifles, and 61 cannons - so my approx 425 gold investment bought us 850 movable shields not counting the rifles (600 more shields)

Total culture is 56559 and we are at 2347 cpt (right at the 101 added)

With our piggy bank, I guess we can afford to invest at that level for a few more turns if it'll speed our progress.

Nice work on the rushing :)

0 cptpt: 1405AD
7 cptpt: 1400AD
23 cptpt: 1395AD
43 cptpt: 1390AD
69 cptpt: 1385AD
101 cptpt: 1380AD (can you keep it up ? )

90 cptpt untill 1350AD gives a 1385AD win with 0 cptpt from 1350 to 1385

Not sure for how long. I'm taking a break, but I currently have added 84 culture and I still have 40 explorers, 34 cannons and pop to use for this turn.

Nice work Gator. :goodjob:

Keep squeezing out what you can. As Alan says, our Treasury can hold us for a while. Keep up the good work and it won't need to hold us as long!! :D

The game just locked up on me, luckily I had saved it recently so no big deal. I'm done with the rushing phase of 1310AD. I need to cycle thru the cities and set the builds.

Here's the turnlog so far:

Turn 252 - 1310AD
culture 56559, 2347cpt
military after builds and drafts: 53 explorers, 30 rifles, 61 cannons

TRADE: wool & Wmap to BAB for 28 gpt :thanx:
sell Wmap around the horn for 56 gold

fix happiness issue in only 1 city
found Leesburg

rushed Temples: Camping Trip / Intel / New Tolosa3 / Wastelands / Leesburg [5]
every currently settled city now has a temple

rushed Libraries: A Tree Falls / New verulamium3 / Camulodunum3 / New cataractonium3 / Brazen Land Grab / New Burdigala3 / World's Best Venison / Ivory Fields / New Agedincum2 [9]

rushed Cathedrals: New Augustodurum3 / Agedincum3 / Augustodurum3 / Arausio3 / Gergovia3 / Glevum3 / Lezoux3 / Verulamium3 / Curovernum3 / Camulodunum3 / Cherbourg [11] / Isca3 / Ratae Coritanorum3 / New Camulodunum2 / New Durocortorum / Rutupiae3 / Lindum2 / Southern Exposure / Lugdunum3 / Nemausus2 / Toyama / Glanum3 / Middle of Nowhere [23]

This is a 142cpt increase :bounce: I don’t think I’ll be able to get this high again

Perhaps one of the other teams sabotaged us!

Let's see, 101 last turn and 142 this turn = 183 cpt next turn, right?? :mischief:
Now that is IRS math!! :D

Now is the right time to do it. Earlier is better. I reckoned there were 858 cpt available at 1300 AD. It sounds as if you have already delivered nearly 300, including bonus universities :goodjob:.

All except the last university was accomplished with only 1 rifle each. They were poped rushed from size 6 cities that had reached about 118 shields to finish, that allowed 100 shields from pop and 1 rifle to complete. Plus they were all size 6 cities that couldn't draft.

The hard part starts now, because there are almost no shields in the city production boxes. So all build now come from pop and moveable shields completely.

I'm not going to be able to play until this evening, got some family activites this afternoon.

Alan's list has turned out to be very helpful. I put it into excel and have been checking off items as I build them. I'm probably going to try to squeeze in some more settlers during this turn so I have some cheaper culture builds. Still surprised that we haven't had any flips to us, especially with some of the pressure we have on some ENG and FRA cities where we have cut into their 1st ring of city tiles.
