Nice worrk on Persia Jeff :goodjob:
It wasn't all me. CKS left me set up in a position to roll them easily. All I had to do was press the buttons. :thanx:

A couple of thoughts based on what is visible. It looks like that might be a detached island, so razing Oslo & Birka would make the entire island available to us.
That is what I was trying to say in my last post, but you said it much more clearly.

There are a bunch of Siphai just off the east end of the Viking screenshot from my turnlog.

There is also a stack of Trebs right by Persepolis that can be brought over to knock down the infantry a bit. Your choice if you want to go that route or not.

OTOH, I certainly see no reason to continue the invasion over onto the Viking homeland. Just get an army over there to pillage.

Nice job, Jeff.

I'd like to avoid slugfests with the Vikings as much as possible. I'd like us to take advantage of any convenient opportunites to take their land, but India and America look like softer targets. Pillaging the Vikings and taking poorly defended cities while assimilating the Indians and Americans sounds good to me.

A quick update with 5 completed:

The Viking island with Oslo is now ours (razed Oslo, kept Birka for now)

We isolated the Indian capital and then took Lahore (kept it) and am now moving on Delhi. With luck will be able to take the whole island this turnset.

Got Medicine (boo) as the bonus tech and am researching Steam Power (due in about 15)

We've got about 800g in the bank - I've rushed a few things (settlers & libraries) to speed up our tile grabbing. We're about 33% now. I expect that to climb with the new Indian lands.

Hope to finish and post tomorrow

Turn 10 – 1300 AD – Settler founds New Bursa – Troops in India take the turn off to heal for the next player – Prepping for an invasion of Copenhagen’s island in the south

I got a little sloppy on city management, so the next player might want to review tile usage, though I agree with DocT that this one is probably in the bag. We hit the 50% tile mark last turn and are at the 60% population level. We need 164 & there are 194 between India and unclaimed, though there are 3 remote Indian cites. There are about 40 tiles we could gain on the Indian island and another 15 on the old Oslo island. That leaves us about 100 tiles short. I’ve got a Frigate going down the eastern coast of the Viking, American & Persian islands to get a feel for what’s left. We are 12 turns from Steam Power, though we could cut that to 8 if we want to run a negative GPT. We can afford it with 763g in the bank (the deficit would be 33gpt). There are 2 settlers on the Oslo island. I wasn’t really sure where to place them. We’ve got enough troops on the Indian island to finish them off, so it’s time for the team to decide where to go next. I've got a feeling that the way we are going this one probably won't get back to me, so let me say how much I've learned and how much I've enjoyed playing with the team and look forward to SGOTM8.

Here’s a couple of screenshots for those interested.

Looks great, denyd. One more island, finishing off the Indian island, some settlers, and some libraries should do us. I counted about 70 tiles available on the Indian island - 40 on land and 30 in coast that we can get with libraries. Some of the land we settle in old Viking lands will come from them, too, rather than being unclaimed tiles, so this helps even more. We may not need much of an invasion to hit domination.

I think cutting off research and rushing libraries and settlers will help more than getting to railroads in 10 turns or so.

Great stuff denyd. Awesome ratios.
I'm back early so I can pick up. I got it. I agree with CKS rushes are probably more important than rails at this point

First here's the save. I played 5 turns now that we are in a new age.
http://gotm.civfanatics.net/saves/sgotm7/jeffelammar_SG007_AD1325_01.SAV
Pre-turn Now that we are going cash rush I rush settlers in Mugla and Antalya. I rush libs at Birka, Zonguldak and Tokat. MM a bit to get some builds reduced. Change a few builds to settlers and galleons. We still don't have much transport. Look like we'll have wines online soon.

IT Some Vike ships go home. Zimbabwe market--cannon, Medina lib--settler, Bursa sipa--bank, Antalya settler--settler, Birka--settler, Mugla settler--lib, Bolu settler--galleon, Zonguldak lib--galleon, Toakt Lib--settler.
1305 AD 51% land. Establish New Iznik and it claims 6 tiles. New Uskudar claims 5. New Izmit claims 5. Hurry some galleons and a frigate.

IT American caravel sinks a frigate (0-1). We get deposed at Dehli but there aren't any units inside. Sinop galleon--frigate, Aydin galleon--galleon, Ankara galleon--frigate, Denizli frigate--market
1310 AD Drop off armies at Trondheim wines. Take out both rifles at Dehli 10g. (2-1). Knight army takes rifle at Bombay (3-1), 2 sipahis take a rifle and a LB (5-1) and decide to keep the city. Buchets 6-10 on Vike frigs and galleon. Hurry Lib at New Bursa and bank at Iznik.

IT Vikes send the frigs and galleon home. Persians want peace and will give nav and music theory but not steam. No dice. Indians drop a lone LB from Bombay at city north of Bombay. Iznik bank--musket, Uskudar bank--sipahi, New Bursa lib--settler.
1315 AD 55% land. Take out LB with Sipaphi (6-1)
At Bombay Sipaphi army takes rifle (7-1), Jeff's sipaphi retreats, V sipaphi takes reg rifle (8-1), next retreats, last one takes a con rifle (9-1) and we keep Bombay.

IT Another American caravel sinks our frigate (9-2). Izmit sipaphi--frigate. Vikes start Shakes.
1320 ADTrondheim isolated with no iron or wines. Hurry a lib at Van, Antioch, Yozgat and Not Constantinople.

IT Payback. We sink 3 attacking American caravels. (12-2). A lone Persian cav dropped at Bombay and a lone Indian LB at Karabuk. Istanbul galleon--sipaphi, Yozgat lib--?, Antioch lib--settler, Not Constantinople lib-- settler, Van lib--settler. Americans start Shakes.
1325 AD Wines connected and lux to 0%. Elite Sipaphi takes LB (13-2), vet takes cav (14-2), Sipaphi army takes 2 rifles and a galleon at Calcutta (17-2) and we keep the city. Land a knight army and some sipaphis near Philly. We will have 2 more armies ready after they've pillaged the Vike island. Land is at 57% and pop at 62%. 100 more tiles for the win. Americans have 100.

SUMMARY
Some galleons need to be sent back north to grab a few settlers for America. Two settlers and two workers are on a galleon to fill the gaps near Bombay and Calcutta. Another is headed towards America. I rushed some stuff that I didn't write down including another army to finish off the Americans. I have most cities on libs, settlers, galleons and frigates. Feel free to change anything. There are probably some cities that could use another taxman or two so that should be checked.

Nice job Deny and Whomp. Great Job on India.

We have a couple cities in old Persia that need libraries to close gaps. Those and the northwest coast of India would be my priority for libraries. There is a lot of unclaimed coast out there.

With our current American Invasion, I think we should be able to win this in a few more turns.

For what it's worth, I don't care if we take 5 or 10 turn sets. Just take it as far as your time permits.

I will finish it out, with any luck.

By the way, with all the argument about Steam Power, I probably should have checked on which victory condition we were shooting for. I thought it was conquest, not domination.

Domination is the only VC.

Not much to add here except that I didn't realize that coastal tiles were included in the tile count towards domination. With those tiles included, we might even be able to skip the American island and concentrate on the northern island chain and filling in our controlled landmasses. Pillaging every road in the Viking lands will slow down the appearance of Infantry, so keep that up.

Sounds great, Whomp. Rushing some libraries to fill in the gaps should get us to the tile limit, while taking a few American cities and merging in workers should get us to the population limit.

Can we merge workers? I remember we couldn't in SGOTM6 but is it an option here?

The biggest negatives are I had 3 galleons near Copenhagen that need to go home to pick up settlers and the old Indian cities are still very stubborn with resistors.

We couldn't merge workers for pop-rushing. I don't think there is a rule against merging them to get more population, though, as long as we don't expand cities beyond the limits of what they can feed and as long as we don't kill the merged workers for production.

I'd actually use those galleons to take the siphi army from Scandinavia to America. I would then do the american invasion with those forces availiable. Should be able to take out their muskets with ease.

IIRC we have a knight army and 4 siphai already on the American island. Adding in the Siphai army from the west end of Scandinavia (leaving the other knight army there to continue pillaging), should allow us to take american cities with relative ease.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Bed_head finish this off, and would be somewhat surprised if I get another turnset at all.

1325 AD (0) - At the end of the turn, 90 tiles to go.

1330 AD (1) - At the beginning of the turn, 83 tiles to go.

1335 AD (2) - At the beginning of the turn, 79 tiles to go.

At the end, after I have had a little fun with America. Notice the settler in the corner.

jeffelammar_SG007_AD1335_01_america.jpg

1340 AD (3) - I managed to cut the tiles in half, it seems. 39 tiles to go. Unfortunately, I think this turn I will only be able to manage to cut them in half again.

1345 AD (4) - Yep, 22 tiles to go. But two territorial expansions take care of what is left fairly easily.

1350 AD (5) -

Decent score for the game.

And just to see what is left of America. Not a whole lot left. Shows what a couple Sipahi and some knight armies can do against muskets.

I realize the report is a little boring, but there wasn't much to report other than taking the four American cities, and you can see well enough what happened there. This was probably one of the sloppiest turnsets I have ever played before, as I never even opened up a city screen. I let the next builds be autoselected. I think I may have even automated some workers! But the important stuff got done.

Anyway, there is not much for me to say here. I played 15 turns in this whole game, and my participation was pretty low since it wasn't much fun chipping in here and there without even being able to look at the save to see what was going on. Glad to have taken part though, and hopefully next time around we get to continue the streak of fun games using fun UUs and lots of opportunity to use them.

Oh, you can check out the final save uploaded on the SGOTM site if you want. I wasn't sure if you all wanted to look at it, so I posted here first and will be uploading there in a minute.

Well done team Jeff  You can go off and look at the struggles of the other teams now. At least you actually got to play with the Sipahi, you'll find some didn't ... for various reasons .

Congrats everyone! Sipahis were a blast to work with.

 Nice Job there BH.

We didn't do well in the competition, but we did win fairly handilly.

I have to say that even though we didn't beat other teams, I am pretty happy with what we did. Getting Siphai was just plain fun (They are one of my 2 favorite unique units along with last SGOTM's Celtic Warriors)

We had some dark moments when we got a little off track, but we always pulled things back and kept going. I'm sure there is some sort of life lesson buried in that one. :mischief:

I wonder if there will be some sort of list our of when teams got their first MGL. As far as I can tell, that was the turning point where we went from being turtled up on our island to letting the AI have it.

The only thing I can point at that was a collossal messup was the first Arab Invasion, and I want to stress that although Whomp did the turn set, the plan was drawn up and agreed to by most of the team. I know I hold myself as responsible for that one as anyone.

Never Give up, Never Surrender.
