SGOTM7 - Team tao

If there are islands to the west, they are likely barb infested, right? If so, we should just get on with whatever plan we have locally. After the Middle Ages barb rush they will be impossible to colonize at least until we have armies and knights. Still, it might be worth a suicide run to see what's under the fog - or maybe a map from America when we meet them.

We are strong to everyone we know. I've never seen such a weak group of Deity AI. And, we are number 3 in the list of known civs! :) We are doing alright! :goodjob: Way to go team! I'm looking forward to your writeup, Furiey.

What gameplan are we going for - MT then conquer them all, or go for India first. It looks like Persia and Arabs are going to duke it out for control of their island. That will likely keep them off our island for a bit so we could go after India and research toward MT at the same time.

Can CivAssistII calculate an approximate date to get MT? I gather the city info in red has to do with flip risk. How come Lahore is under no pressure from us, it being so close to our capitol?

And I see the turn log is posted. I'll be back.

Bad luck on the elite loss vs the warrior-doesn't it make you want to cry out when that happens!

I'll look later on as I'm in the middle of a milkrun turn at the moment. I'll play either Monday or Tuesday evening giving everyone a chance to look and make suggestions.

What would we research if we upped it from zero? Personally I'd prefer to wait until we get out of the AA and then go for the bottom rung. I'd like to get some more cheap sords at the moment but maybe I need to look at the save before making my mind up. Whoever gets the GW will be a tough nut to crack so I hope they are far enough away for us not to worry about.

IMHO we are nearly ready for the invasion - once Great Library has build the Forbidden Palace and then starts building more catapults.

I would send some enforcements from Izmit to cover the landing spot al Al Bait. We also needs a couple of catapults there.

IMHO Uskudar should build 2 more settlers - for 3S of Aydin and for the western incense hill. We need more towns to help in the unit upkeep!

PS: GW is already built in Washington.

The Americans own the Great Wall and the Pyramids. We haven't met them yet but I suspect they might be a little more of a challenge than the others nearby.

Well done, Furiey! This looks good. :)

I didn't take a look like night. My milk run turn ended with me rearranging the placement of some cities to try and get better terrain and I managed to disconnect around 30-40 cities from the rest, thus taking out 6 luxes from this outpost (C3C abandoned cities do not keep their road/rail in place). This won't have done my score much good and I thought an equally catastophic move in playing this SG when too tired to do so would not go down too well :D

I'll look tonight and then depending upon if I have any questions either play it through or pose my questions and play tomorrow. It'll still be within the 24/48 limit though :)

It seems that India has some very nice land and a nicely situated capitol. If we got a leader during our Indian campaign would building a new palace in Delhi be a good place or is it too close to Great Library's FP? I can't see any better spot.

It seems like the tech pace is very slow so maybe we can take India without even meeting any elephants. Would we then go straight for Zulus? They have 2 GWs, one of which is the GLH which would be nice. :)

We are going to want Monarchy and that enables the HG wonder. Would we hope for a leader? A prebuild might take too long and we should be able to count on getting one or two during the next while, hopefully. The 1000bc restriction date has passed but would we still put a priority on building an army first?

If we learn monarchy and establish monarchy, I suggest to use a Great Leader for Hanging Gardens. This would trigger our Golden Age and most likely will allow us to win long before we research military tradition.
A new Palace can wait, HG not.

It would take a while to get the new core up and running, but a Golden Age now would really boost our production. If we can keep the AI attacking AI bait, hopefully now we have some Elites the Leaders should start rolling in. We will have to watch out for the Vikings though, as we'll be unable to use AI Bait then. We could pick another city one tile inland so they are forced to land their troops like the other Civs - the new one I founded in the Jungle (Epulu I think I called it) may be suitable once the Jungle is cleared.

With luck, we'll have enough boats by the time the Vikings have invention to take out a lot of the Berserks at sea. Up until navigation, they only have one route of attack if I remember the map correctly (can they cut across? They're seafaring, but missed the GL), so we only have to *really* defend the towns in the SE.

HG sounds like a peachy idea. What's the status of the wonder cascades among the AI? A whole bunch just got taken out -- do we have a shot at a hand-build in Great Library?

I'll take a look at the save tonight and see if I have anything useful to add.

Renata

Ugh, forget I mentioned the word seafaring in my last post, ok? :p Still in COTM-mode.

I took a quick peek, and the save looks great. Uskudar's finally set up for two-turn workers, and the bait town appears to be working decently. I'd recommend getting roads down on the remaining desert tile(s) bordering the town so that any units that wind up there after attacking can move efficiently thereafter.

I don't think that self-research is really practical right now, but maybe we can reassess once we have the FP built and are in Monarchy. If we get either Monotheism or Feudalism for our free tech, it's tempting to push for Chivalry.

It looks like we're just about ready for the invasion. A few more catapults, maybe another few spears, and move any spare horses and swords over to Sogut as well so that they can join the second wave.

Good luck, Tone!

Renata

IMHO we need settlers more than workers. Settle the NW incense hill. Settle the SE jungle peninsula. Raze Indian cities and re-found to reduce flip risk.

Cowtown north can build in a settler in a couple of turns, IIRC, and I believe it has a granary. That'd get the NW peninsula town built a lot faster than doing it in Uskudar.

Renata

We could get a Settler out in Cowtown North in 1 turn if we changed the Harbour build to a Settler (the box would be full but no shields would be discarded so we would just waste this turns production) and the build would time with growth to size 6. That would be the quickest way to Settle the Incense hill.

For the SE Jungle peninsula, we could have a Settler from Sogut in 5 if we time the Settler with growth to 9 again or could get one from Uskudar in 6 turns. This equates to the same time to settle the peninsula as the Sogut Settler takes an extra turn to get there. The FP will then be completed so Uskadur would then be able to do Workers in 2 if necessary.

Settlers from both would give us one to take to India to start Settling cities of our own there.

Lahore has a Harbour - it would be worth keeping that town if we could. How much we need to raze and replace will depend on the resistance we face, and we won't know that until we start. If we raze and replace we should soon have lots of Workers. If India is going to be the location of our Palace, I suppose we should start thinking about dotmapping there as well. Interestingly, Madras, Bombay, Culcutta, Bangalore and the Zulu city Hlobane are all RCP 5 of Delhi. That just leaves 2 Indian cities outside that distance, and would put most of our core cities at minimum corruption from the Forbidden Palace.

Apologies to do this two times in a row but I won't be able to play until tomorrow thus missing my 24/48 deadline-even though I had sort of planned my opening moves last night.

I can play tomorrow as I will not get home from work so late but I'm too tired tonight. Skip or swap as before if you'd rather not wait any longer.

Sorry!

@Tone: Please can you confirm that you wil definitely play your turns today.

@Keath: If we don't have Tone's commitment to submit his turns today by 20:00 MET, we will skip him and you should play.

Sorry, please skip me. I should be fine for the next round but I have not used my civ disks in days and it looks like it will be that way for the next couple of days as well.

If Tone hasn't played by tomorrow morning, I can play then. That will be in about nine hours from now.

EDIT: Cross posted with Tone -- Call this an I got it and I'll play in the am.

I have looked at the situation, re-read the latest pages and am about to start. Lahore, Bombay, Karachi and Bangalor all have harbours so they should be keepers. The whole Indian island looks good as is, so I would try to keep them all if I get that far(doubts). We plan to finish them off so civil disorder would disappear. Then we'd have a location for a second core.

I'll switch Cowtown North to settler for the incense hill(good location for cats, harbour and offensive galleys) and build town for barracks SSE of AI Bait. Then settlers from Sogut for Indian landing spot and Uskudar for the peninsula.

The timing of the invasion at 12(6+6) units per turn will happen once we have a settler for the Indian forest town. Then send troops west to the other forest and attack Lahore.

AI Bait will get some reinforcements nearby - cats and troops from Izmit. Won't that scare the AI away? I'm not clear as to where the cats should be placed - next to AI Bait on the coast?

Any other ideas I should consider? If we meet Vikes and America what might we want in trade, not trading Lit of course?
