Dido popped up and asked for my Citrus Orange and Lemons in exchange for some gold and some iron. I decided not to quibble and just accepted her proposal. But then she says `You must make a better offer.` and she wouldn`t accept the offer she came to me with!

What happened there? Did she changed her mind mid-offer? Is the game still calculating stuff while you`re negotiating on the Diplomacy screen?

She's a woman is what. But seriously, It's happened to me before as well. No clue, and don't care. When something like that happens, soon thereafter there is a denouncement.

Basically the AI will almost always reoffer an existing trade agreement when it expires, whether or not they think it is a good idea at that time. What likely happened is between the time you signed it the first time, and now, she no longer likes you as much due to diplomatic reasons.

The annoying part is she'll keep asking you until someone makes a trade for that item. So expect several turns of her asking you.

You made that trade before. She re-offers the trade, but it says "This deal has faded in our eyes over the years, could we change the deal?". So she is asking you to change the deal, for her benefit. Because it involved Iron, I assume she dosent value Iron because she has Battlehsips or Musketmen now.

Well she asked once and that`s it, neither has she declared war, in fact now (a while later) seemingly being nice. I kind of like to think she just changed her mind suddenly like some women do! :P

Nice to see that no game is predictable.

AI trade offers are often infuriating:

"I offer gold if you open your borders."
Nope. You open your borders and I'll agree.
"That offer isn't good enough."
OK, I won't take your gold. Now let's do a straight swap. I'll open mine if you open yours.
"That offer isn't good enough."
What will it take to make this deal work?
"I'm sorry but there is no way to make this deal work."

Then why the hell did you waste my time asking in the first place!

jlim201 is right read the text right above the trade offer and the Civ will explain their motivation for the trade, which in this case was her trying to get more out of the trade.

LOL. yea. Ah, the Human ability to confuse AI. That`s how we`ll defeat super computers trying to take over the world in the future!
