Pirates is selling for only 20 bucks these days, and I'm wondering if I should buy. Problem is, I have a low-end laptop, and I'm not sure if it will run. I have 256 ram, a processor somewhere around 1.5 ghz, and a 32 mb graphics card.

This rig will run anything made 2003 and before -- Morrowind, Rise of Nations, etc. etc., with moderate settings (shadows are almost always turned off in 'bigger' games like Morrowind). Then again, a game like Dungeon Siege II runs beautifully for about 15 minutes before the game is just too much for my ram.

I'm not that big on visuals, just gameplay (anyway, anything looks better than Pirates Gold on Genesis).

Anyone tried it with a similar machine?

Should I buy, or would it be a waste of my time?

Thanks for the help.

It ran pretty much max graphics on my old XP 2200+, 512 mb Ram and a 128mb Radeon 9500 desktop.

That is not that far from what you have, I would suspect you could run it fine and I love the game.

I played the Genesis version to death, this is a mighty upgrade from that.

But if you have an Xbox, you could be safe and get it for that.

Sid Meier's Pirates! runs fine on my 5-year-old 1.7 GHz Pentium IV with its 128MB GeForce 5700 and 1 gig of RAM. Dunno about a laptop though.
