In my state there is a sketchy loophole that a child can be tried as an adult. It is not spelled out by law when this is appropriate. If that happens, then the 10+ penalty applies. Also, in my state you are considered an adult at age 17, so if you are 17 you would also be tried as an adult.

So, that means that, in the USA, if you're a minor, you can't do sex at all until 18, even if it's with another minor?

Teen girl charged with posting nude photos on Internet
PITTSBURGH (AP) — A 15-year-old girl has been arrested for taking nude photographs of her self and posting them on the Internet, police said.

The girl, whose identity was withheld, was accused of sending out photographs of herself in various states of undress and performing a variety of sexual acts. She sent them to people she met in chat rooms on the Internet, police said.

Police seized her computer and found dozens of photographs stored on the hard drive. Authorities did not say how police learned about the girl.

She has been charged with sexual abuse of children, possession of child pornography and dissemination of child pornography.

Well if "performing a variety of sexual acts" is "sexual abuse of a [child]" (your self, lol), then I don't see why having sex wouldn't be sexual abuse of a child as well.

In DK btw the age of consent is 15... But as long you are under 15 you can have legal sex with everyone up to the age of 18.

It can be nasty, but I like that system the better.

lol, you just reminded me that my yahoo mailbox has some illegal items in there.

This was all like 5 yrs ago. She just started college but she was 17yrs (and like 10months) old. 17 is legal in the state of Illinois. So we could legally have sex, but (if):mischief: she sent me nude photos, that would land me in jail, make me a pedophile, and have to put me on a sex offenders list that would rune my life.

but the having sex part is fine. :crazyeye: Seeing her topless is fine, but seeing a picture of her topless is illegal:nono:

different states have different laws regarding sex and ages of consent.

in the state i live in, the age of consent is 16. that means a 16 can do whomever s/he wishes that is 16 or older, also 14 yrs + 1 day people.
anyone between the ages of [[14 yrs + 1 day]] and [[16yrs - 1 day]] can have sex with anyone up to [[4 yrs - 1 day]] older than them.
 
it should get droped to 17+, it sucks using someone elses to get in to mood :)

What I see is that kids have, mostly due to internet access, far more knowledge about a lot of things I never knew about when I was a kid (and I am not per se referring to sex-related stuff). In formation is always available and is actually used by kids. Kids know more at earlier ages. That's my impression.
 
I don't think an 18 year old knows their ass from a hand-grenade (OP case in point). I wouldn't date anyone under 21 (well, probably 25 really) and it has nothing to do with drinking age, just "possess 1/2 a brain age". Voting, consent, etc, should all be changed to at least 21. Of course, democrats would never allow it because if you are 20 and conservative you have no heart/if you are 40 and liberal you have no brain (not because dems are so pro-kid rights, as much as they would like moveon.orgers and air-americers to believe it's all about them).
 
I have no problem if there is an age limit of whatever to work in porn. However, treating it as child porn is _not_ the answer. Your suggestion is ambiguous, but since you talk of "raising" the law, and the only current laws AFAIK cover child porn, then I assume you mean the latter.

Child porn laws mean:
* Even simple possession is illegal.
* Not just commercial material is affected - someone posing topless on a webcam, or private photos between adult partners, become illegal.
* You have all the connotations of being convicted under such a law - e.g., saying that someone attracted to a 20 year old is a pedophile(!)

If you want to stop porn studios targetting people who are too stupid to think of future consequences of their actions, fine, but it doesn't make sense to send people to prison as pedophiles because they looked at a naughty image of an adult man or woman. It's bad enough in the UK that the age was raised from 16 to 18 (in 2003) - the age of consent here is 16. But a sexy pic of a 20 year old is not child porn!

Pornography issues for adult should be treated like any other employment law.
 
Like if a few years would make a difference. So at 18 you're old enough to fight a war but not old enough to be a pornstar? WTH?
