Should the president of the United States have to come in under a certain BMI to be eligible to be president? I mean people like Chris Christie would not make the cut.

People who are exceedingly fat may not do the USA good service. They have high cholestrol, high blood pressure, increased medical needs, and could just drop dead at any time because of their extreme fatness(which is ok for everyday people, but definately not OK for the president of the United States). They may be rendered inable to walk because of it(http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nat...ge-jolicoeur-avoids-jail-fat-article-1.164923). But more importantly, they do not make the USA(#1 country in the world) look good. I mean a fat blob represent the USA? I don't think so. We nee someone tall and handsome to make us look good. Also imagine the ridicule we get if we elect someone as fat as Taft and he gets stuck in a bathtub again? Even fatty Kim Jung Un would be laughing his butt off at us. We cannot have that!!

Therefore do you guys think that the president should not be exceedingly overweight?

I think there should be a minimum BMI to be president, so every leader of the free world looks like Jabba the Hutt.

No, there should not be a maximum BMI. Don't want him/her, don't vote for him/her.

Ohhh, now we need fat people advocacy for equal opportunity and privilege. Great idea.

What if they were born genetically fat?

Well, it doesn't matter if being fat does not impede you at your job. For instance Fat People probably would not be hired to be fitness trainers because it would make the Gym/club look bad.

This. This just screams weight discrimination against fat people to me.

Who cares if Howard Taft got stuck in a bathtub!?

Understanding how fitness works and how to train others in fitness does not require the body of a Greek God.

Leading a nation does not become impossible after a certain BMI has been reached.

No, it doesn't but have you ever seen a grossly Obese fitness trainer?

I don't really frequent the fitness industry, but the primary fitness trainer in my town is what you would consider overweight.

There shouldn't be any requirements. So you don't have to be a non-serial-killer, an American, an adult, mentally competent, human or alive.

Don't want him/her/it, don't vote for him/her/it.

NO Canadians!

No, because BMI is a crappy system that doesn't actually tell you all that much.

But also, what else are super fatties going to do? If they want to be president, all the power to em! At least they're moving around doing stuff.

No. Your idea is stupid, arbitrary, and undemocratic, and I literally cannot believe that you're serious about this.

I don't think he is being serious.

A fat person won't get elected anyway because the public will perceive them as sloppy or lazy. For better or worse the number one vote getter is name recognition and number two is appearance. Look at our last presidents back to reagan, those in the modern age of media and tv. All have been relatively attractive and fit. Is it any shock romney selected paul as his running mate or they beat out the likes of newt gingrich in the primaries? Newt looks like a turkey or a slobbery bull dog with those jowls.

While I would not like a flat cap on BMI for a president, nor would I react with outrage if the president has a middle-age-paunch going on. However, barring political considerations (I would likely vote for a fat slob over a Michelle Bachmann/Newt Gingrich lovechild) I would likely not vote for a seriously obese person for president. Besides the health considerations, I feel if they cannot muster the self-discipline to lose weight they don't have the mental discipline and focus needed to be president.
