I think most people don't mind the in-game Pericles because they are unfamiliar with the Real Life Pericles. Or how people look when they are in their 60s. (Hint, not that different from when they are in their 50s, especially on a Mediterranean diet and a healthy lifestyle of combat.)
Teddy Roosevelt on the other hand.....yeah, upset enough people to make Roosevelt go on an intense weight loss program for the in-game representation.

People seem to care more about Trajan's look (or Roosevelt's look) being ahistorical. Why? Because more people know/care what Trajan looked like in history. Many don't know about Pericles or care about him, it seems, so he will remain in the game looking like Solon with an awkward helmet on his head at this point. Sad but that's life. I'll just make sure to kill him first in future games in which he shows up.
