I also think we should finished her off.

If the slow moving troop is an issue, what we can do is to concentrate on the cities around her capital first (i.e. don't move west first). Meanwhile, build a few galleons and frigates (we will need them anyway after the Celtic War). After securing the southern cities, then use galleons move troop west. Those will shave 2-3 turns per city.

lurker:Right, and troops can heal on the move this way, as well.

I doubt the decision to kill off Boudica will fall to me. 10 turns is not much to finish someone with still a lot of land.

I'll see where I get tonight.

All right gentlemen... War report!

Seeing that Boudica's troops are not really concentrated in one big stack, Army West continues towards Verlamion while Army East heads for the main objective - Bibracte. 3 turns are needed to move in position and bombard away. Boudica did not try anything good: either she's already beaten or she's trying but failing. :D

238: Steam Power is in.

Civ4ScreenShot0217.jpg

239: The bombardment on Bibracte has begun and the attack commences next turn. The first defenses of Verlamion are slain, zero losses. Overall, Boudica's efforts in the war have been pathetic.

Cromwell joins the knight from Ulundi and heads to the Westfront.

IBT: A pathetic counterattack by Boudica with two catapult. Zero losses, two cats gone.

240: After Bibracte's defense are bombarded to zero I attack with all I've got there and rip Boudica's defenses apart with zero casualties and three riflemen to spare. Two are being left in Bibracte for the defenses, the rest of them will continue to Gergovia.

Army West kills another six defenders of Verlamion. Verlamion will fall next turn.

241: Army West kills the last defenders of Verlamion and Verlamion is captured.

IBT: Bulawayo is poisoned. Since Bull is not on the map my money's on Boudica.

242: Cromwell has caught up with Army West, who are now at the gates of Camulodunum. Army East wiil attack Gergovia on the next turn.

Corp is in, start on AL. I shed a tear for the Great Lighthouse. :(

243: Gergovia is attacked and two Riflemen perish in the attack. Wouldn't have happened if the RNG didn't think "f*** you Paulus" yet again. Camulodunum is bombarded and can likely be attacked the next turn, providing Boudica does not cheat on getting armies there.

Boudica is willing to capitulate. While I'm all for killing her off we've heard only from 2 on the team and we pretty much have all her good land and cities (Bibracte's bank was still intact! Woohoo!) The good news: if we want to kill her, we do not need to hunt down distant islands.

I did not draft much because GreyFox had already drafted a great deal on his turns and we really don't need more troops to deal with Boudica. I have started building a bit of naval power, so we can move on the next target ASAP. Combustion's too far away to go there before we attack our next target.

Good progress.

Looked at the save, a lot of cities can be whipped. Esp Vienne and Tolsa, better choose the Buddhist Temple for the maximum pop whip (they would starve away anyway). Maybe a whip followed by a draft will take care of all the redshirts and have the cities not starve. The northeast-most city's library can also be whipped and let overflow goes to a workboat (its culture will pop in 2 turns, claiming the fish).

Hmm ... the maces are left behind. Why? The reason they are not upgraded yet is to wait for them to reach CR3. But if they are not at the frontline slaughtering the weaker Boudica troops, they would never gain the experience to reach CR3.

Looking good. I don't think it's worth vassalizing Boudica as we'll get negative diplo modifiers from her religion. I say finish her off. Unless WW is getting out of hand?

If we're going to do an inter-continental invasion, then we may want to stay in nationhood a little longer to do one last round of drafting before swapping to FS. But if WW accumulates and we're close to finishing off Boudica, it may be worth it to go into anarchy since we'll want to revolt after finishing her off anyways.

What does vassalizing has anything to do with her religion? I think no matter what her religion is, we would suffer diplo penalty just simply by vassalizing. Does AI consider the vassal's religion when deciding the diplo hit to the master?

As to drafting, since AssLine is 14 turns away, we would want to draft before infantries since by then it would be sub-optimal (2 pop against 1 pop for rifle).

The diplo is average of master + vassal or something like that. Boudica is not exactly liked so people would hate us for having her as a vassal if she keeps to Buddhism.

Since I did not draft (because you already did so :p ) RJ can at least draft another round, maybe even two more rounds.

If we're going intercontinental I want State Property. Just saying. Maybe Ramesses will have it on offer someday, he and Charle are the only two who still have something to offer in the future - Zara is in WTFBBQ - uh, WFYABTA.

I thought that just applied to PA's??? And that for just taking her as a vassal we would just get the standard vassal demerit.

But :D anyway as I want to wipe her out who cares :rotfl:

Indeed. Others civs average their views of you and your vassals when deciding to trade/declare war. So if your vassal is well liked, it can help to have them under your wing for diplomatic points. Obviously this isn't the case here so we should just finish her off. Starting boat construction while teching to communism sounds like a good plan. We should have enough of a tech advantage to take out either the Ottomans or the Portugese - maybe even enough time for both.

Kill Mehmed first due to logistical considerations. Joao is so far behind we'll fight him at an advantage no matter what.

Ok played a fairly routine 9 turns off crushing Boudicca..
She kicked off b y managing to do something to hurt us but not too severely ..

Was surprised to notice we hadn’t built the Heroic Epic so decided it was time for that!! There is also now a GG ready to be settled there if we decide we have enough Super Medics.

Decided this trade was worthwhile as Eman unhappiness was kicking in.

charlietrade.jpg

And after a partial Bulb Joao came along with a trade which was too good to ignore even though it puts him close to a military tech.
jaootrade.jpg

So well Boudi is gassed and will fall in the next few turns. You can see I got our Macemen up to CR3 and have already upgraded them for the next player to enjoy.

boudigassed.jpg

We have 4 galleons en route (and more being built) to pick up our army and start the next invasion.

Riflemen and cavalry are about (from mehmed at least) so we may want to wait to upgrade to infantry (due in 3) before shipping them out?

I have stopped now to give time for a last round of drafting before we hit Infantry and too see if people agree with going Free Speech and Emancipation at the same time. Although we have war weariness it hasn’t been at a level to make taking the Anarchy earlier important. Still no trade for communism available so we can’t do State property at the same time.

IT: Looks good. I whip a few buildings because of WW. I also settle the GG in our HE city. We have 2 super medics which should be more than enough for now.

Turn 254: Move troops towards Boudica's last two cities.

Turn 255 - AL is in. Joao proposes crabs for iron. I then realize he has no iron  I start drafting infantry.

Turn 257 - Boudica is no more. I revolt to US/FS/Emancipation (2 turns). Our cities need to start growing since we're going into the endgame here. No more whip :(

Turn 261 - GS is born.

Turn 262 - Communism is completed. Our fleet is amassing off Ndondakusuka. I've upgraded our CR rifles into infantry. I think we should set sail for Mehmed as he has the SoL. Joao's land sucks and his cities aren't very good either. However we should probably shuffle the boat contents to mostly infantry in the first wave so that we don't lose cannons to cavalry flanking.

By the way, did anybody notice Charlie's triple gems or Ramesses's quintuple gold???

PS. I forgot to take pics this time. Not that there's much to show. Basically we have more power than Joao and Mehmed and AL on both. Mehmed has some techs he won't give us and Zara has... a lot of techs. He has at least combustion and biology on us and he has AL as well. Let's just stay on his good side and try to avoid a head-on confrontation with him.

Made some micromanagement changes. We have yet build Oxford (not enough University). Bulawayo should build it. Our capitol is our designated GP-Farm ... so I don't understand the purpose of factory there (may be for engineer?). It should concentrate on producing GPs ... so I removed pop working on mines and change them to specialists. We also own the Buddhist Shrine ... so I swapped capitol to buddhist missionaries (the only city with Monastery) and converted two remaining non-buddhist cities.

Assessed the situation, we are not ready for a war with Ottoman. At the minimum, some forces need to be diverted to the northern island. There are 3 Ottoman rifles and 2 cavs there ... vs our two infantries. Not enough.

Also sold someone wine for 13 gpt.

Press enter, and revolted to State Property.

Shyuhe-AD1780-state-prop.jpg

It results in more commerce. Thereafter, is a series of playing around with the science slider to get money to buy buildings like markets, libraries, universities. Do continue to do so ... we are after all in UniSuff. It is far better to get money now and rush buy all the necessary gold or beakers multipliers in those cities generating substantial commerce. I have also spend some money to upgrade our ships (galleys and caravels to galleons and frigates)... if we are going to war with Ottomans, we need ships. Although it will be nice to have destroyers like Zara:

shyuhe5-AD1770-zara.jpg

But at least we shouldn't still have pre-medieval vessels.

I have also started to move some troops to the northern island to take care of the lone Ottoman city there.

All these in preparation for an Ottoman war ... which may not come. At least not yet.

Why?

Because the war horn sounded.

Shyuhe-AD1802-war.jpg

Hmm ... this is interesting. Although Zara is pulled into the war by Rameses, I think Charlie will not be able to handle it. Hence, I suggest we postpone our plans for Mehmed and immediately declare on HRE as well. This will earn us points with Zara. Plus, our troops can immediately set sail now. We want to stop Zara from acquiring more cities. Hence, we should go claim some roman cities ourselves.

But that is a team decision, so here I stopped.

Got the save. Might even play tonight if I have the time.

I still favor the Ottoman approach. I presume we might be able to take one city in a war against Charlemagne but after that he'll capitulate to Zara anyway. Why speed up a war which has Zara as only real benefactor?

Adding to that, the HRE has combustion already...
