"Le Francophonie" officially proposed by Minister of Culture

A new organization has just been announced by the Ministry of Culture. This organization is to bew called "Le Francophonie", or "The Francophone" in English, and is to be a cultural association of all French-speaking nations and regions of the world. However, this organization will be unique, says the Minister, because it will not be political. No nation will be excluded because of their internal politics, the sheer goal and purpose of this organization shall be to celebrate and enhance the French language and culture around the world. Some proposals from the Ministry of Culture include having "le Jeu de Francophonie" or the Francophone Games held every year, in which Francophone nations compete for medals and such, having an international fund to fund cultural events promoting the French language and culture around the world, creating an awards organization to give medals for the best French Music, Movies, and other such events every year, to be called the "Juno awards", among other suggestions. This organization will be based most likely in Paris, being the capital of France, the center of French Culture and Language, and the proposed motto for this club is "equality, complementarity, and solidarity". The Ministry of Culture has not said which nations have joined, but speculation has it that Haiti, France, Belgium, Seitzerland, and perhaps the Gold Coast will be joining, and maybe Indochina. The news of this organization has been met with mostly good reactions from Quebecers, who seem to support the idea, but some worry that this will send the message of French Imperialism, and not of French Culture.

Unemployment hits all-time low - again

Unemployment in Quebec has, for the 4th quarter in a row, hit an all-time low, dipping from 3.2% to 3.0%, with the creation of thousands of more jobs in Manufacturing and High-tech sectors of the economy. Statisticians say this number is close to being within the statistical margin of error, meaning that almost all of Quebec's citizens who want to find a job can. Unemployment can never actually reach zero, say experts, simply because it includes people who have enough money that they don't want to work, people who are sick or injured, and those who are taking time off for whatever reason, and appear to be temperorily unemployed. These numbers, say experts, is astounding, and shows that Quebec truly has a successful booming economy, and things seem to be staying that way.

Marriage Rate tumbles - yet again

Another statistic also took a tumble, and that is the rate of marriages in Quebec. Studies show that the young in Quebec are getting married in far, far fewer levels then their parents did, and this is definitely a trend. Worrisome, some say, because the tradition of Roman Catholic Weddings might be lost, possibly forever, and some think that would be a bad thing. Experts say that this figure is dropping mostly because young people simply don't feel it necessary to get marriage, they are entering into Common Law Marriage, which has most of the same benefits as Civil Marriage in Quebec, but without the burden of being officially marriage, and the expensive ceremonies, and also because of a backlash against the Roman Catholic Church itself. Roman Catholicism has long been dominent in Quebec, ever since the first French Settlers arrived here, and brought their religion with them. Quebecers used to flock to the churches en masse, but that has changed. Churches are now much emptier, and have mostly elderly people in them. Quebecers are simply falling out of the tradition of going to Church, and the old ways, which worries both Church Officials, and those concerned about preserving Quebec's culture. In this modern generation, it seems that Quebecers are more concerned about their jobs and families then being bothered with church and marriage.

Quebec population shrinking: StatsQuebec

Statistics Quebec has come out with a series of new statistics that paint a picture of another shift in Quebec culture - the size of families. It was not long ago that couples had families of up to 10 children, and the norm was about 5-6 children. But that is all changing now, according to the new numbers that StatsQuebec has come out with. The average number of children, after reaching 2 4 years ago, is now 1.4, and the Quebec population is aging quickly, and is actually shrinking, say experts. This means that, in about 10 years, Quebec might be facing a crunch like Japan currently is, where the population is becoming older, and might, one day, have a large amount of elderly people on its Pension System, which could drain the system, and cause it to collapse, if not enough people are paying into it. Immigrants to Quebec has been declining as well, mostly due to language barriers and the convoluted Quebec Immigration System. Quebec might be changing that, says the Minister of Immigration, but don't hold your breath, says the Socialist Leader, Paul Cere. He says that Immigration Quebec has been notoriously slow at processing claimants, and a large number simply give up rather then wait for the Quebec bureaucracy to process their claim. The Socialists plan to fix this if they get into office next year.

Rotating Strikes by Healthcare Employees cause Healthcare showdown

President Duceppe is coming under increasing pressure to close down Private Clinics in Quebec by closing the loopsholes in Quebec's Health Care Act of 1980, however, he seems unwilling, at best, to do so. Duceppe has ignited a firestorm of complaints ang anger by allowing the clinics, mostly owned by American Healthcare Corporations, to function, and many say that he is using the clinics to cover up an evenm bigger problem - Quebec's health care system. The system has the highest paid doctors and nurses in the world, mostly due to the Government caving in whenever the Doctors and Nurses go on strike to their higher wage demands, but the system has, according to experts, all the doctors and nurses that it needs. More so, in some cases. What the system lacks is enough money for basic equipment, to maintain the buildings, buy new equipment, and such. The problem has gotten worse in recent years, as no new money has been invested into the system, so more and more money goes to paying doctors and nurses, which leaves less and less left over for equipment. Specialized Machines like Kidney Dialysis, MRIs, and CT Scanners. Doctors and Nurses say the situation has gotten so bad that some of them are paying out of pocket for some tools, which they claim is unacceptable. Doctors and Nurses, in order to try and force the government to spend more on health, have started a series of rotating strikes, and what they call "Work to Rule" campaign, in this they will either randomly go on strike, or only work what it says in their contract, and no more. This has led to a decrease in services, and the Government condemning them for breaking their contract, as they say. Still Quebecers are on side with the Doctors and Nurses, and upwards of 65% of Quebecers feel more money should be diverted to Health. Duceppe refuses to back down, showing off his sometimes legendary stubborness. The Socialists and Communists have been profiting from the outcry, the Socialists, if elections were held today, would probably sweep to Victory. They are pledging to funnel more money into the system, and immediately ban all Private Clinics, which most agree wqould solve the problem. We will keep you updated as this story unfolds.

Massive Independence Day Celebrations largest ever

This year's Independence Day Celebrations, celebrating Quebec's Independence from Canada in 1962, making this the 44th anniversy, are the largest ever, say organizers. Nearly 600,000 people turned up for the March through Quebec City, and over 1.5 million for marches nation-wide. The events were a sea of Fleurs de Lis, and the Quebec Flag, with the Quebec National Anthem being played at full blast, and marchers and chanters making the Old City of Quebec City come to life. On the same day, people were also celebrating Bastille Day, an important day in France, and Quebec's Independence was timed to coincide with Bastille Day. Speeches were made, and it was generally a day to celebrate being Quebecois.

To the World,
From the Quebec First Republic,

Quebec is pleased and proud to announce to the world that the first International non-political Organization has been created, La Francophonie. The purpose of this organization is to enhance, improve, and celebrate the French Culture and Language. Any nation with a % of its population being French is welcome. This organization shall focus solely on the French Culture and Language, ensuring that they remain healthy and well. We have plans for Jeux de la Francophonie, a sort of scaled down version of the Olympic Games, and other exciting events. We hope many nations will join, and the Website is located Here. Come and check it out!

OOC - I think that this is the first non-political organization in NESing history, correct me if im wrong though.

Nation Background: The 20th century was a lucky one for Brazil. Ties with USA improved, Argentina was twice defeated and, at long last, Uruguay returned to its rightful owners. Is there a great power potential in this nation?

Just wondering if the mod has anything to say about Brazil, since some mods like to have some nations to scheme with.

Refugee Crisis

Hundreds of refugees fleeing from the Argentine army as they establish their control in the north have gone to Brazil. The Brazilians to their credit have opened up their border and let them through. Refugee camps have been established and foreign aid workers as well as Tachyon reporters are down there as we speak.

High Civilian Casualties Estimated

It is estimated that civilian casualties could be in the tens of thousands. Mostly as a result of the massive bombing campaign and street battles. The type of bombs used by the Argentine Air Force were free fall bombs so it is expected that civilian casualties could have been as high as 30,000. We will likely never know for sure.

International Community Quiet

Chile and Iberia have loudly congratulated Argentina on their “great success in the war against the vile, imperialist, capitalist, bourgeois, scum eating dogs”
Brazil has condemned the invasion and demanded Argentine withdrawal. The Brazilian-Argentine border has also been more heavily fortified. It is possible Brazil may intervene since it considers Paraguay an important buffer state. If that happens needless to say this war could grow to involve all of South America.

Gelion! Clean your PMs, I have stuff to PM you!

Orders are due by thursaday Indian Standard Time. The sooner you get them in though the sooner I update.

We like the idea of an EU but we are not pleased that you didn't mentioned us to be a member or waited for our aproval or something....we know that we did'nt have much of a diplomatic contact whatsoever.....but please do not forget us for we are a prosperous nation with a hight culture and history.

I see that both USA and Indochina like to have Indonesia...for we consider the USA more as a brother in diplomatic mathers we would like to sell Indonesia to the USA for 3 eco-points.

oh forgotten

to the Dutch speaking part of Belgium
From Holland:
We would like to talk to you about the possibilities of Vlaanderen joining Holland, this because of the establishment of the La Francophonie, this organization take care that the Walloniers have more power in Belgium then you Vlamingen.

Ummm.... expalin? What regions are you talking about and perhaps you can give me a bit of history about the region?

The north of Belgium called Vlaanderen are Dutch speaking....and they are not very happy with the southern Walloniers, wich speak French...if you establish a organization specially for French speaking countries then the Vlamingen will be very upset...and we feel as for Holland that we should oppose.....you know Belgium is only 175 years free from Holland....so it is more Dutch then French i feel.

Belguim points out that since both Dutch and French are offical languages as well as Germans there are no problems.
Also the region you refer to has greater autonomy than other regions of Belguim.
La Franchoponiqe is only a cultural orgnazation not a polotical one.
