SINES V Update I 440 CE-445 CE

Meso-America

War erupted in Meso-America as powerful Teotihuacán lead by their King Chewbacca…I mean Chechewaah :p waged war against its weaker neighbors. The first victims to suffer to its armies were the Mayan city states that lay to the south east. Ten thousand Teotihuacán soldiers moved east assaulting the wealthy city states through the narrow corridor of land they controlled. Unfortunately for them, this alarmed the Mayan states of Kaan and Mutal and other nearby city states formed an alliance against perceived Teotihuacán aggression.

As Teotihuacán assaulted the nearby city states they found their narrow corridor of land suddenly cut off by the armies of Kaan and Mutal and other city states which moved to outflank them. The Teotihuacán forces were now separated from their supply lines, and reinforcements and completely surrounded by enemy troops. What resulted next was a massacre.

The forces of Kaan and Mutal augmented by nearby allied city states attacked Teotihuacán forces which made a desperate last stand. The battle lasted days as forces clashed back and forth. In the end the Mayan forces emerged victorious, and many Teotihuacán prisoners were sacrificed on the altars to the gods.

(-10 Teotihuacán thousands, -5 Mutal thousands, -4 Kaan thousands, -6 various allied city states thousands, +5 thousands for Mutal from various allied city states)

While their eastern expansion was a disaster the Teotihuacán fared much better in their war against Danipaguache went much better. A Teotihuacán army of ten thousand crossed the border from the east assaulting Danipaguache coastal city. The city was weakly garrisoned and quickly overrun by Teotihuacán forces.

(-5 Danipaguache thousands, -3 Teotihuacán thousands)

The Danipaguache forces remained near the capital waiting for the inevitable Teotihuacán which would inevitably come….but didn’t. After waiting for a week the Danipaguachen commanders became impatient and moved forces to recapture their lost city.

This was exactly what 3 Teotihuacán had been waiting for and and the full strengthof their armies descended upon the capital. The Danipaguache forces were horrified when they heard the news and rushed to return but find their route home cut off my another Teotihuacán army. The Danipaguache forces trapped between the two armies were annihilated in a bloody battle.

(-10 Danipaguache, -5 Teotihuacán thousands)

The defenders at the capital fought bravely with even citizens taking up arms, but in the end to no avail as the sheer weight of Teotihuacán smashed them in a tremendous wave of men. The Kingdom was destroyed and its people dragged off as slaves and sacrifices.

(-5 Danipaguache thousands, -2 Teotihuacán thousands, - Danipaguache Kingdom)

South America

Moche and Tiwanaku aggressively expand their territory using intimidation and force of arms to annex other nearby city states.

(-2 thousand Moche, -1 thousand Tiwanaku)

Africa

In Axum the powerful kingdom of Yonatan ben David began a wave of expansion expanding in almost every direction. Armies were sent north attacking the rich Nubian city states along the Nile. The Nubians resisted fortifying their walls and closing their gates. The Axumites responded with overwhelming numbers as fifteen thousand men surged forward crashing against Nubian defenses and breaching the walls. The Nubian defenders were overwhelmed and the area was brought under Axumite control. The remaining Nubian states have reacted with alarm and talks are beginning over the possibility of a league to combat Axumite aggression. Already the southern city states have banded together for common defense.

(-2 Axumite thousands, +alliance between southern Nubian city states)

Towards the south the various barbarian tribes along the Nile were rapidly subjugated and brought under the control of Axum. The last major Axumite expansion was along the Red Sea coast as Axum annexed one of the major Somali trading states in the region earning the ire of the Himyarite Kingdom who had long been a major trading partner of the Somali states. The remaining Somali state quickly requested Himyarite protection which was granted.

The new land is being flooded with Jewish settlers as the government encourages people to settle in the new lands. Jewish missionaries are rapidly spreading Judaism through the land and conversions are encouraged by the tax and other restrictions placed on non-believers.

The Kingdom of Jenne-Jeno expands occupying nearby states.

(-2 Jenne-Jeno thousands)

Europe

War rages in Eastern Europe as the three Hunnic factions launch assaults upon each other. The Huns lead by Denigizik marched against Uldin, when the news reached Rugila that Dengizik was attacking Uldin he quickly gathered his army and marched to confront his brothers.

What resulted was a three way clash as Uldin’s forces were assaulted from one side by Denigizik and the other by Rugila. The three armies met at Uldin’s capital. As the forces of Rugila and Uldin clashed on the outskirts of the city, Denigizik’s forces lay in wait nearby. Initially it appeared that Uldin had the upper hand as he kept a strong center which brushed off Rugila’s initial attacks; however Rugila utilizing his greater numbers sent a force to hold Uldin’s center, while other forces circled around and outflanked him. Uldin found himself trapped he was killed with an arrow to the eye. The remainder of Uldin’s forces broke and fled to the south after the fall of their leader.

(-13 thousand Uldin, -15 thousand Rugila)

Rugila was victorious or so he thought. Dneigiziks fell upon him riding out from the woods in an ambush. Rugila’s forces had been greatly decimiated and were forced to fall back as the loyal and well trained army of Dneigizik pursued them. The elite Chounnoi Riders in particular distinguished themselves as they cut down hundreds of Rugila’s horsemen. Rugila was forced to beat a hasty retreat back to his own borders leaving Dneigizik in control of much of Uldin’s lands.

(-3 thousands Dneigizik, -1 thousand Chounnoi Riders, -9 thousand Rugila)

The remainder of the Hunnic forces that had fled south after the defeat of Uldin, joined Dneigizik after promises of amnesty and reward.

(+7 thousands from Uldin to Dneigizik , -Uldin’s faction)

Western Roman Empire

In Sarmatia infrastructure is improved thoug the kingdom as new sewers and roads and such are built. Also interestingly an intriguing fusion of religion is occurring as Eastern beliefs are being mixed with the traditional gods. It remains to be seen what belief system this may result in. There is also a bumper crop of grain and wheat which comes in handy later on for Rome as pirates based from Malta and Libya began sinking Egyptian ships bound for Rome carrying foodstuffs Fortunately Sarmatia was able to pick up the slack and shipped its bumper crop to Rome saving the city from starvation and getting a most excellent price.

(+1 eco level Sarmatia )

This has highlighted a growing problem in the Mediterranean, Piracy. Islands such as Malta, Sardinia, Croasia, Libya the Balearics are rapidly becoming pirate havens where pirates find safe haven and launch attacks from. Already attacks on shipping have increased greatly and unless something is done there could be drastic economic consequences for the trading nations of the Mediterranean.

The other various Roman states continue to plot against each other with intrigue and such all hoping for supremacy.

Eastern Roman Empire

Meanwhile much the same seems to be happening in the Eastern Roman Empire as it appears to be splitting apart at the seams as various controversies and divisions that grip it.

In Egypt Augustus Arcadias nominated himself as Augusts of the Eastern Roman Empire, he was supported by the Caser of Cyrenica. He was indeed one of the more powerful and influential leaders however controversy broke out as the other Casers began to attack him (verbally that is). He was accused of being a traitor for raising a private army separate from the Eastern Roman Legions. These so called “Alexandrine Legions” were the same as the Eastern Roman Legions in every way except where their loyalties lay, and their loyalties lied with Augustus Arcadias. This tremendously alarmed the other Casers who feared that with these new soldiers that the Caser of Egypt would be able to forcibly place himself on the throne.

Thus his ascension to the throne was opposed by a number of the other Casers. The Casers of Asia, Achaia, Galatia, and Syria, all nominated themselves as Augustus as well.

The Casers of Armenia and Mesopotamia have supported the claim of the Caser of Syria, while the Caser of Thrace has sided with the Caser of Achia and the Caser of Bithynia has sided with the Caser of Galatia.

The lesser Casers have decided to sit back and wait before committing to any one side. Mostly they desire to go with whoever will best benefit them.

While these controversies over the next Augustus were brewing, the Caser of Palestine decided to have a little military adventure and raised his own private army much to the increasing alarm of the other Casers. The Caser of Syria raised an army of his own in response, and was quickly copied by the other major Caser until eventually pretty much every Caser had an army of their own.

Now speaking of Palestine’s military adventure it started out when their “Blue Navy” set sail south bound for Jiddah. Ten thousand men disembarked north of the city and began marching south. The fleet meanwhile began to blockade and bombard the harbor of Jiddah, the local merchant ships were no match for the Palestinian fleet. As the army approached the outskirts of the city a message was dispatched demanding a surrender. The ruler of Jiddah seeing little other choice accepted and the city was occupied by Palestinian forces. The Palestinians then continued marching on and besieging Mecca. This time the ruler refused to surrender and the Palestinians assaulted the city, quickly defeating the local garrison forced, and executing the leaders. The merchants however were unhurt. This did not prevent the Himyarite and Axumese merchants which had been present in the cities from complaining to their respective rulers about those “Damn Romans” coming in and disrupting trade.

(-2 Palestinian thousands)

Meanwhile the throne of Augustus at Caseropolis remains empty.

Middle East

In Afghanistan the Hephthalite Kingdom has been formed strongly influenced by the Persian Bazangarid Empire, and the Gupta Empire. Both states took a mutual interest in establishing a strong buffer state between their nations. Both the Gupta and Bazangarid have sent emissaries to the new Kingdom which was united as a confederation of tribal chieftains. The new nation with its capital at Bamiyan is still unsteady yet has great potential as a crossroads for trade between east and west and perhaps even a power in it own right after all its people are said to be descendents of the Huns or the Yuvezhi.

(+Hephthalites)

South Asia

The Gupta bask in the glory of their wealth and power for they are the greatest, most powerful, richest, magnificent, fabulous nation in the world. Fear them. :king:

Vakataka establishes a colony in East Africa much to the chagrin of the Bazangarid and Hymarite Kingdom respectively. Himyarites seem to be pissed off at everyone these days ;)

Funan expands rapidly into nearby territories growing in power.

(-2 thousands)

Sinhala expands into nearby islands.

Sri Kresta expands down the Irrawaddy River.

(-1 thousand)

Srivijaya expands in Sumatra occupying nearby kingdoms.

(-3 thousands)

East Asia

Liu Song occupies Taiwan and begins colonizing northern Philippines and expands into Laos.

(-3 thousands)

Skirmishes between Tubo Wei forces and Liu Song forces continue as always with a Tubo Wei raiding force riding into Liu Song lands burning and looting nearby villages before being destroyed by Liu Song militia. Tensions have increased and some generals in Liu Song are calling for open war against Tubo Wei.

(-1 Tubo Wei thousands, -1 Liu Song thousand)

The Yamato embark on a grand campaign to improve their infrastructure however fall short of funds leaving irrigation ditches half dug, and roads half built. (A further 1 eco is needed according to your size stat, and education requires investment as well which is separate from infrastructure)

The Yamato also embark on a grand diplomatic campaign contacting various clans to their north and with an impressive show of force and diplomacy sway many clan leaders to their side. A fleet is also sent out to the west contacting the Korean states and Chinese states and trading relations are being established though the Koreans were quite suspicious of the Yamato fleet and indeed the Baekjen fleet had a stand off with them as paranoid commanders feared a Japanese invasion. (Next time I suggest not sending fleets containing armies on diplomatic missions ;) ). Despite this relations are established with nearby states.

Baekje expands in the Korean peninsula and begins to take interest in occurrences in Japan. The island of Cheju is occupied by them. Baekje’s expansion alarms Goguryeo which fears the combined Baekje-Silla alliance raising tensions between the states.

(-3 thosands Baekje)

There. You may now post. Let me know if I forgot something in the update. Stats will come later. If you didn't get mentioned in the update that means you didn't do anything worth mentioning. Well...I'm off to watch American Pie 4 ugh....

Oh and one important thing. Some of you....actually many of you messed up the economy rules quite a bit. A lot actually. I let it go this time because its probably my fault for not making eco rules clear.

Total Eco means TOTAL ECO. Azale your eco is 5 I dunno where you get 7 from same with Israelite.

Base eco+EC's=Total Eco,

For instance suppose a nation has 2 eco centers, and 3 Base Eco levels its total eco is 5. I think you people have been adding your total eco and your EC's which isn't how its done. At any rate I let it pass this time consider it as my house-modding gift to you, I'll go revise the Eco section in the rules to make it more clear.

Nice update

My response to the pretenders to the throne will be soon, I need to think of something powerful and persuasive ;)

From: Augustus Arcadius of Egypt
To: Cyreanica

Your loyal support will not go unforgotten.

Well I'll be...

The Cyreanican ambassador knows what I mean

From the Caesership of Palestine,
Heir to the Line of David and Solomon

To the Kingdom of Aksum

We congratulate our brothers in the Beit Yisra'el on their recent success. However, we must point out your folly in proselytising to the Gentiles. The The obligation, both blessing and burden, of the Covenant between HaShem, the one and only Lord, and our Patriarchs and Matriarchs was meant only for us. Proselytising is forbiden from our faith. Is it not the tradition handed down from the rabbis and kohanim of the most holy Temple that all converts must not be accepted until they ask four times? If this is so, how can we ask them to convert? Please, in respect of our Torah and traditions our people so cherish, halt your efforts to convert the Gentiles.

From Yonatan ben David of Axum
To the Caeser of Palestine

We shall cease prostelyzing, but shall keep in effect the rules making it a benefit to be Jewish in Axum. We need our population base to be Jewish, so we can make it a benefit to be Jewish, meaning that Baal Tshuvim will still convert, and want to convert, yet we will still reject them thrice.

From the Caesership of Palestine,
Heir to the Line of David and Solomon

To the Kingdom of Aksum

We thank you deeply for your compliance with the Torah, the rabbinical teachings, and our people's traditions. We pray that you will carry on in peace, with the blessings of Hashem, the One and Only Lord, Master of the Universe, Father of All.

Nice update :)

Perhaps people are confused with the a/b/c/d/e/f/h system...

As I wait beside the emperor I wonder what will come...

The emperor has called his financial advisers together to "discus" the recent "mistakes". They will arrive at 18.00 hours, and not one minute to soon or to late.

Hopefully the emperor doesn't see my swet dripping from my nose.
When the advisers arrive they will probably be yelled at and executed.
I close my eyes and can see the guts, blood and heads lying on the floor.
STAY FOCUSED!!!!! Don't think about it, you must keep yourself strong before the great emperor.

He found me years ago in the backlands of Japan and has raised me as his own. Now I'm his personal adviser, waiting for my fellow financial-adviers to come....

Just on time they (all six of them) enter.
"You all know why you are here?" The emperor asked calmly, to my surprise.
"Yes we know great emperor!" They replied.
"Okey, I hold you: chief Nagasaki, responsible for these mistakes in our financial policy. You know what to do!" The emperor sayed, once again as calm as nothing ever happend.
"Yes" Was Nagasaki's reply, and he left.

I have never seen him again in my long live.
After he left the emperor apointed his son, also called Nagasaki to the new chief of finances. This to make sure we would never forget what happend.

I must say i have learned a lot from this chapter in my history, the emperor and i never spoke about it but i know it was a lesson he had in store for me.
A lesson about power, honor and so much more....

=> I'm sorry about any writing errors, English is not my first language.
I'll do my best to come up with an other story if you guys say this one didn't totally suck :D
