SirJethro's DyP II - "The Emperor's New Mod"

Quokka...how's the turn goin' mate? If you can get it posted tonight I'll play before I turn in.

Sorry about the delay but I have had to share my computer for the last few days. Shouldn't happen again, we get the replacement for the old Lightning Rod soon.

Inherited Turn
We have the whole World Map! Excellent.
Change Silvertusk from Cathedral to Opera House. I’ll build a District Courthouse here.
MM Iron Mountain to slow Monastery build and increase growth. I’ll build a District Courthouse here.
Change Salt Petersburg from Toll House to Worker.
Change Salusa Secundus from Toll House to Shrine.

The third District Courthouse I’ll put in Golden Blubber.

I The Incans cancel our RoP. They wanted 12gpt from us to renew.
I renew our Furs deal with Polynesia. I have to up the money from 1gpt to 22gpt. I love my people.
I renew our RoP with the Siamese. We have to kick in 6gpt.

1605
Dyed Pretty University=>Pike

I The Polynesians cancel our RoP. They wanted 12gpt from us to renew.

1610 ……

1615
Dyed Pretty Pike=>Pike
Tuskany University=>Colonist
Salt Petersburg Worker=>Worker

I get to break up the biggest worker stack that I have ever seen. The Jungle crew consisted of 15 natives, 19 Sioux and 15 Tibetans!!! They cleared a Jungle in 1 turn. The island looks bare with no Jungle and we desperately need some Forests to get some production going. I’m sending some workers to Jungle Island to clean that up and splitting the rest into groups of 6 ready to Railroad.
Tuskany has a food surplus of 15 and with a little MM can get to 20, or growth in 1 turn. The colonist is for the island above Salusa Secundus to be known as the Third Rock from Quokkaton or TRoQ.

Found Malcolm in the middle of the east coast =>Monument

I Ethiopia cancels our Incense sale to them
I renew our Gold + Dyes sale to Siam
China builds Smiths in Beijing

1620
Rush Temple in Leo’s Retreat for 110g. Need it to get back to WTLQD

I Incas and Ethiopia sign a Peace Treaty
The Polynesians cancel our Cotton sale to them
The Incas start JS Bach’s

1625
Dyed Pretty Pike=>MEI.
Leo’s Retreat Temple=>Forge

1630 Modern Legal System discovered
Sugar Bay Town Clock=>Basilica

Awww crap we can’t build the Supreme Court because we can’t build 3 District Courthouses because the water in the radius needs to be FRESH. Only Cottonton can build a DC. China is the only civ able to build the Supreme Court at the moment. WE could if we took the Incan cities of Cuzco and Chan Chan, in which case we should just take all of the Incas and reclaim New Jethrovia.
I am going to buy Flintlock from China and then speed up research on Grand Strategy so we can use the Palace build in Kal-el for Clauswitz’s On War. I buy Grand War also so that after Grand Strategy we are in the Industrial Age.

Trade China: Constitutionalism + Iron + WM + 1560 for Flintlock + Grand War

After this trade I see that China already has Grand Strategy and are in the Industrial Age. We need to run at –242gpt to get Grand Strategy in before the Palace builds, so as much as I don’t really want to I am going to trade China, Modern Legal System for Grand Strategy.

Trade China: Modern Legal System + WM + 960g for Grand Strategy

We get Nationalism as our free tech. China has Nationalism and Steam Power already. I buy China’s TM to see if they have any RR’s and by proxy any Coal, they don’t.

We can build the Holy City in Leo’s Retreat. We will also be able to build it in Foghorn Leghorn but there’ll be no need to lower corruption there.

Change Kal-el to Clauswitz’s on War, due in 9 turns.
Change Silvertusk to Prison
Golden Blubber continues with National Gallery

We are going to need to turn our research back on, China is getting too far ahead and the others are too small and fighting to much to research anything.

Upgrade and Arq (80g) and a Pike (160g) to Line Infantry to accompany the Colonist.

Researching Steam Power in 5 at –89gpt.

1635
Goldmember Town Clock=>Academy
Tuskany Colonist=>Bank
Iron Mountain Monastery=>Basilica
IOB Aqueduct=>Bazaar

1640
SJ Stables University=>Courthouse

1645
Silvertusk Prison=>Harbor. Needs it to grow.
Salt Petersburg Worker=>Shrine

Found Third Rock =>Monument

1650
Goldmember Academy=>Bazaar
Dyed Pretty Line Infantry=>Dragoon
Rush Monument in Malcolm for 115g
Rush Monument in Third Rock for 145g

Notes
Iron Mountain is configured for fast growth. This is at a cost of about 50% production, but it was size 6 when I started this turn and it’s a first ring city.
IOB has an Aqueduct and can grow if it wants, but I wasn’t sure if it would lose its WLTQD so I just left it. Foghorn Leghorn finishes the FP in 8 turns then we won’t have to worry about it.
Next turn we get Steam Power and that will have us level with China again. I have the techs heading towards City Planning. I think this would help us the most as we could turn some of our huge food surplus into shields. The FP coming online next leader is also going to help tons.

Workers
Most of the Workers are fortified on Hills or Forests ready to RR when we get Steam Power next turn. They have been grouped in 6’s, although most are 6 slaves.
There is a Clipper on Auto-move with 2 Workers aboard heading to Leo’s Retreat. This will give the Big Island a group of Workers that is equivalent to 6 natives (5 + 2 slaves)

Glad to have you make, Quokka. I got it now.

That's too bad about the SC. I didn't realize about fresh water until just the other day. In my SP game, I had so much fresh water on my map I never realized the constrait.

I agree re: City Planning. Once we get that and railroad, we can super configure our empire for maximum production.

But Quokka...we don't get to start RR'ing with Steam Power in DyP. We have to wait a LONG time til we get High Explosives.

A little OT: I just noticed the sig change, SJ. Well done ;)

D'oh! I have never gotten that far. Usually its a wave of Dragoons that end it for the others, thats why I wanted to get to a Modern War. I've never seen any units past Line Infantry :(

Its been a long time since I have played a map that was this dry as well. I never even thought about it.

Okay! It's good to be back. I could just about wet my pants I'm so excited to get that FP in 8 turns! As Alex would say, "Let's get right to it."

IT: I agree with the B-line to City Planning, but I'd like to take a pit stop for ToE and Electricity for the two big free tech wonders. In my last few games, it has really giving me a boost. So I'm going to set it at Steam Power (next turn), ToE (ToE in Quokkaton instead of Bach's), Electricity (Edison's in Golden Blubber instead of Gallery), Industrialization (to get the factory), Electricity, Steel, Medicine, Sanitation, and then City Planning. If we have no coal, then I'm going to skip Industrialization until after ToE and Electricity.

Rush Temple in East Port (260g).

Whoa!!! Foghorn Leghorn is set to riot! They've got 5 happies, 1 content, and 6 angries. Maybe one of the entertainers accidently got put on a tile? Anyway, I fix it. Zero growth, FP in 8.

OT: Whoa, China lands a colonist, a defender and two horse offense units in the free tile north of Issachia. Looks like harmless expansion, and a possible flip target for us, but I haven't seen the AI land a settlement with that kind of offensive firepower before.

Set ToE tech at 50% (4 turns -262gpt).

East Port: Temple>Bazaar
Dyed Ugly: Temple>Library
Silvertusk: Harbor>Tollhouse
SS: Shrine>Forge
MitM: Monument>Wiseman
Third Rock: Monument>Harbor

1655 AD: GRRRRRRRRRRR! If Kal-el had been built 1 tile to the east it would be an Iron Works city. Anyway, they have coal. There is also coal in the mountains of SS and and Third Rock....we were good to claim those islands. There is also some just outside our border near our incense colony. No need to colonize it as we'll eventually overtake it (unless China decides to settle there). Had SirJethro Farms been built further south in the mountains, it too could have been an Iron Works city. The good news is that it doesn't appear that the AI have any IW cities.

I'm going to fortify most of the workers as there isn't much left to do for now.

OT: Chinese request an audience. They offer Industrialization for 2930 gold. I politely decline and trade world maps instead. WOW...I FOUND A BUG!!!! I traded our WM for his WM plus 1gp. Then I was just screwing around and asked what he would give me for my world map a second time. He offered 1 gp. He then repeatedly offered me 1 gp over and over. I did this 5 times just to screw with him and moved on. ;) (maybe this is a widely known bug, but its new to me)

China does in fact settle just northwest of Issachia.

SirJethro Stables: Courthouse>National Monument (they don't really need anything else right now...and this can always be switched later). Max pop and all happy. 33 turns.

Crap...Nanjing finishes JS Bach's.

1660: There is nothing I can do to reserve the Quokkaton shields for ToE, so I'm going to cascade a bit here. Change Golden Blubber from National Gallery to National Library (1 turn, 36s waste), change Quokkaton to National Gallery (304 shield waste ;( ). I slow research by 10% because of this and save us a little over 100gpt. I'm still set on getting those wonders, but it won't be as quick now.

1665: Siam and Polynesia make peace. We complete Nat'l Gallery (2 content in city, 1 content on continent, 50% research), and National Libaray (+50% research and allows archives for 1 turn which is another 50%).

1665: Quokkaton: Nat'l Gallery>Cathedral (for shield banking only)
Sugar Bay: Basilica> Acadamy
GB: Nat'l Library>Nat'l Archives
Rottnest: Aqueduct>Library

1670: We have completed Clausewitz's on War! Great job team! This is a wonderful wonder.
Kal-el: CoW>Palace (for Edison's)
Silvertus: Tollhouse>Library
Iron Mountain: Basilica>Opera House (shield bank for factory - 17 turns)
Golden Blubber: Nat'l Archives>Opear House (bank for factory - 12 turns)

I adjust slider for ToE.

1675: ToE discovered. Electricity set at 40% (5 turns at -101gpt).
Quokkaton changed to ToE (29 turns)

1680: Polynesia and Ethiopia make peace.
NBI: Aqueduct>Library
Malcomb: Wiseguy>Taxguy

1685: Sugar Bay: Academy>Library
Silvertusk: Library>Academy
Dyed Pretty: Dragoon>Dragoon
Leo's: Forge>Library

1690: We lost our supply of Silks, Coffee. I renew it for Dyes, Cotten, Sugar and Oliphants. China throws in WM and 70gp.
I say, I say, I say, boy...we completed our Forbidden Palace in Foghorn Leghorn. Set production to Windmill.
Dyed Ugly: Library>Academy
Tuskany: Bank>Dragoon
Darwin: International Port (What a turn!!!!)>Bazaar

Our people want the Central Bank, so I change Golden Blubber from Opera House to CB. Due in 16 turns.

Since the FP helped our production so much, I'm changing IOB to Windmill (4 turns). The effect on gpt was pretty great also. In one turn we went from -110gpt to -10gpt, with no lux or science changes.

1695: China offers 10gpt for tea. I take it. We discover Electricity. Since China has Industrialization, I'm going to skip straight to Medicine in hopes that the Encylco will bring it. I set research at 30% (4 turns with +163gpt). Electricity rendered Stonehenge obsolete. Forgot about that.
Silvertusk: Academy>Town Clock
Land o' Plenty: Bazaar>Marketplace
SirJethro Farms: Temple>Forge
Rottnest: Library>Port

I change Kal-el to Edison's (31 turns)

1700: Tibet and Ethiopia sign a peace treaty
Sugar Bay: Library>Marketplace
Goldmember: Bazaar>Marketplace

Notes: We've got somewhat of a Cold War tech race going with China. We each have a pile of cash. I don't want to trade them ToE or Electricity yet because I want to build up a good lead on those. Polynesia has just either discovered or purchased Steam Power from China. It may be worth the gamble to give them Nationalism in the hope that they'll next optain Industrialization and we'll get it for free. But I'll leave that for the next person to decide.

We've lost our Granaries, but the Statue of Liberty is coming up soon. We should go for that. Be careful with the two tech wonders we are building...don't get caught with your pants down and complete it on the same turn we are suppose to finish a tech. Waste not want not.

The Industrial Age is when we are going to build an unbeatable empire!!!

Here is the save.

for the most part, the empire looks the same as in the last screen shot. we haven't been to war in quite some time....

I'll wait until I hear from Kal-el, pdescobar, or Isak before calling a got it.

SJ, I didn't know about that bug. :confused:

I've noticed that the AI seems to always offer $1 for a map, but didn't realize they would actually do it 5 times in a row on the same turn; I guess it makes sense -- if they'll do it twice, they'll do it indefinitely. That's just a wee bit tedious for real serious exploitation, though. ;)

Quoting SJ again
...Be careful with the two tech wonders we are building...don't get caught with your pants down and complete it on the same turn we are suppose to finish a tech. Waste not want not.
Actually, that's exactly when I like to build my ToE-style wonders. The research is done in the commerce phase of the turn so you finish whatever you were researching, then pick what you want for the first freebie. Next comes the production phase of the turn when the wonder is built and the first freebie comes in, so you pick #2 and get that and then pick the next actual target. Works out rather nicely. The problem is when your wonder is one turn away but your tech is two; that's when you get wasted research.

Quoting cromagnon
I'll wait until I hear from Kal-el, pdescobar, or Isak before calling a got it.
Somehow I've managed to always miss this game... I've got plenty to play with this weekend though, so don't hold it up for me this time either unless you absolutely need a fill-in.

cromag...if you've got time, just take it.

btw...you said before that you can't play past june 18. still an issue?

Inherited turn: Looks good. No changes made. The world is at peace for once.
I consider rushing the temple in Isacchia, but with the chinese dragoon and cuirassier eyeing our pikeman, I decide to hold off.

IBT: Polynesia furs deal renews, I give him cotton and 17 gold for it. Why is our RoP deal with Siam costing us 6gpt? We have so much more landmass than they do, so I tell him to shove it.

[1] 1705AD: Bear Butte temple -> forge.
Rush Saltpetersburg shrine for 30.
Upgrade Pike in Jungle Island to Line Infantry. Pick up the workers there.
Rush Forge in SJ Farms for 180.

[2] 1710AD: Dyed Ugly Academy -> town clock.
Darwin Bazaar -> Dragoon.
IOB windmill -> town clock.
Leo's Retreat library -> port.
SJ Farms forge -> windmill.
Saltpetersburg shrine -> Aqueduct.
I line the palace entrance with fearsome looking sphinxes.
China has 3 carracks immediately north of Tibet.

[3] 1715AD: We learn Medicine. The only options are Social Darwinism, which obsoletes our free barracks, and Industrialization. I choose the latter,due in 4.
Foghorn Leghorn Windmill -> Bazaar.
N Big Island library -> Academy.
Malcolm Taxman -> shrine.
Third Rock harbor -> taxman.
China requires Medicine + 638 gold for Industrialization. I'll wait two turns.
I load up 4 workers in Golden Blubber to head out for Third Rock.

IBT: Siam's Gold/Dyes deal is up, but they won't trade gpt for it. Sorry bub.

[4] 1720AD: Silvertusk town clock -> Dragoon.
Dyed Pretty Dragoon -> Hospital (+25% shields).
Trade Gold with Polynesia for 7gpt.
Dyes go to Inca for 5 gpt.
Change Iron Mountain from Opera House to Hospital, and irrigate/work a plains tile to promote growth.

[5] 1725AD: I trade China Medicine for Industrialization. They even throw in 110 gold. Replaceable parts in 5.

Unfortunately, this is it for me. I'll keep an eye out on our game, and if a weekend frees up and you need someone to pick up a game, I'll be happy to do so. Thanks a lot guys, you're a great team. :goodjob:

Can anyone else pick it up? I can play tomorrow, but would prefer to have at least one more person in this before I do. Anyone?

EDIT: the server mucked up my two posts here...I obviously orginally posted them in the opposite order. The timestamp on this one if off by 12 hours or so....just wanted to avoid any confusion.

Hmm...okay, I'm going to take that as a no. I got it. Since we are moving kinda slow here, I'm going to try to play 20 turns and move us down the road...

I'm not going to report every single build this time. I'm going to stick to the important or out of the ordinary stuff.

I'll have it back in a few hours.

Okay....here it is. I'm not sure how many I played, but it was less than 20. Here is a screenshot to whet your appetite. :king:

SJDyPii1774ad.jpg

As you can see in this beautiful screenshot, I have united the world against the evil Chinese Theocrats. To find out why, read on....

========================

Okay...buckle your seatbelts, I'm going to warp us ahead 20 turns.

I change Replaceable Parts to Sanitation to keep our focus on City Planning. 3 turns at 40% with -2gpt.

I change production in the the following cities:
Darwin: Dragoon to Market
Leo's Port to Adademy
Issachia: Rush Temple (next is Barracks to upgrade troops there)
Wheat Thins: Rush Courthouse
Goldron: Rush Temple
Desperado: Rush Temple
SS: Rush Forge
Cottonton: Rush Bazaar

1735: Sanitation in 1. I'm starting to arrange workers for forest production. Rush Barracks in Issachia and GoldRon (145&185gp). I'm moving the pike guarding the incense into Issachia. China is making me kinda nervous.

1740: Sanitation discovered. Steel in 3 turns (still at 40%). Upgrade Pikes in Issachia and and Spear in Goldron to Line Infantry.

1752: Steel discovered. City Planning in 4 turns. China has moved a Carrack into our waters off Wheat Thins. They still won't accept RoP. Makes me a bit nervous. I don't think there is any way Mao could complete Edisons or ToE before we do, so I trade ToE and Electricity to Moa for Steam Engine and 1450gp. They also have screw prop., which I'm going to hold out for. I'm upping the City Planning research by 10%. Gains us a turn (3 turns) and we lose 230gpt. I ask China to leave our borders, but only because it wasn't the "or declare war" prompt. I'm really not ready for Mao.

The Incans have formed a city on our big island, just south of SirJethro Farms. The also have a Cuir sitting in the hills. I'm not too worried about these guys for now.

1756: Chinese are building ToE (Nanjing) and Edison's (Xianyang). I research and find Edison's done in 80 (wow..they are only pulling 19shields with factory...that will increase quite a bit because their growth is high, but they won't catch Kalel). Oops...Nanjing is pulling 118 shields and is set for ToE in 10 turns. Quokkaton is set for 11 turns. I also can't flip flop it with Kal-el, because Kal-el doesn't have a University. I rearrange some times among Quokkaton, Kalel and Golden Blubber and manage to get it in 10 turns with 0 growth, but no starvation. I'm going to move my workers up here and plant some forrests in case we have to blitz a little more at the end. Cross your fingers. Nanjing looks like it has some growth coming, but I think they are already using all of their shield producing tiles. I'll check back with them in a few turns.

BTW...I gained an extra turn in Kalel also because one of the hills it wasn't using had Aluminum in it. Edison's in 16 turns.

Golden Blubber has Central Bank in 1 turn. We also have City Planning in 1 turn, so I change GB around to make Central Bank in 2 turns so I can switch it to Eiffel Tower (free Monument in all cities).

1758: City Planning discovered. High Explosives is next (4 turns). Golden Blubber is changed to Eiffel tower (30 turns @ zero growth).

1760: GRRRR...China decides to attack Issachia. We lose our supply of Coffee and Silks. The attack on Issachia is repelled at the cost of one LI. There is a redlined Dragoon outside Issachia. Ethiopians request an audience. Offer territory map trade, I graciously accept it. I offer them Iron to declare war on the Chinese. I also give them Incense for an RoP. Oh, Mao will pay. Ethiopias Olive Oil is now free since they declared war, so I give them Horses, Cotton and 60gp for the Olive Oil, and also work an RoP into the deal to create more goodwill.

China also drops 2 Cuirs on Wheat Thins and 2 Cuirs on Third Rock.

War-time Diplomacy:
Polynesia - Alliance vs. China for Incense
Siam - Alliance vs. China for Incense and Coal (they can't really use coal yet anyway). Gems free up so I trade those for Saltpeter and get 18gpt in the deal.
Tibet - Alliance vs. China for Iron. They are still Furious with us BTW.
Incans - Alliance vs. China for Cavalry Tactics.

hehe...I'm happy now. The world is at war with China, and we've also managed the steal the luxuries they were trading from other Civs. If we keep those locked up, it will hurt them down the road.

I spend 2800gp on a mass pikeman to line infantry upgrade. I also upgrade our Frigates and Heavy Horsemen. I beleive China's only coal is in Shantung on the coast, so I'm going to try to take that out early. Wheat Thins does have a barracks, so I change from Taxman and rush. Luckily we have 4 units here to their 2 cuirs, but we may lose a couple.

Mujadid in Wheat Thins takes our a Cuir (redlines). That helps.

I fill 2 Carracks in SirJethro Stables with horse units, but I want to wait until I can put a LI in each before sending them off.

I use the last LI in Issachia to kill the remaining Dragoon outside Issachia. Hopefully those are the only 2 offensive units on this island.

The forest in Quokkaton squeezes out another turn at the cost of quite a bit of food. We won't starve before the ToE though, and we should beat China now (I sure wish I could spy on them during war).

1762: China's attack on Third Rock is unsuccessful. We lose none and they have 2 redline Cuirs in the mountains. In Wheat Thins we lose a pikeman.

I kill the 2 Cuirs outside 3rd rock. Wheat Thins gets some upgraded units. Big stack of boats now headed towards Nahkon Thisthatandtheother north of wheat thins (isolated city with Tobacco and Saltpeter...I hope the AI doesn't take it first).

1764: China is bombarding the hell out of Wheat Thins, but their Cuir is unsuccessful. I think their boat is going back for fresh troops.

Our Steam Frigate near Issachia kills a Chinese Rocket Tongkang.

We unload 4 drags, 2 cuirs and 2 LI at Nahkon Rachasima.

1766: Ha, in the OT the AI was softening up Nahkon, but didn't take it. High Explosives discovered. Replacable Parts in 4 turns.

Attack on Nahkon: Frigate puts a hurtin' on top defender. Best defender is in the yellow. First dragoon redlines but wins vs. 3hp LI. Second dragoon beats 3hp LI easily and enters the city. We capture 3 workers and 352 from the vaults. Temple ordered.

I destroy the road to China's coal. I scour the map again and am pretty sure that's the only one.

1768: China makes a heavy assault against our Steam Frigates and almost gets one, but fails. They lose a couple ships. Inca wins fight for the Chinese city north of Issachia, but because it is only 1pop and no culture, the city gets razed and our borders envelope the spot. :D

1770: One of our Steam Frigates is lost on the way home to heal. The other is healing in Wheat Thins (at the new navy base). We are expecting landings at Marlboro (renamed tobacco city I just took) in the OT. One of the boats looks like it plans to offload at Wheat Thins, but I blocked off all tiles, so they cannot land there. BTW...we have started to lay rail (first priority given war status is transcontinental railway)...it is taking FOREVER!!!!! Man these workers are slow.

We have ToE and Replaceable Parts in 2 turns. I'm going to work on getting all horse units to cities where they can upgrade in that time, then we'll take Repeating Rifle with the ToE and have Cav units. I'm going to quit as soon as I win the ToE.

1772: Polynesia wants to end our Fur deal, where we give cotton and 17gpt. Getting expensive. I add Elephants and lower gpt to 5. Wha-hoo...China did NOT get ToE in the OT, that means it is ours. Since they are already building Edison's in another city, I don't think they'll flip to that (will they?). We'll see.

I take out a Chinese Carrack and Galley with our Steam Frigate and a Clipper.

China didn't land at Marlboro...my forces scared them off. :king:

1774 (my last turn): We discover Replaceable Parts. Set research to Repeating Rifle. We build ToE...gives us Repeating Rifle and Social Darwinism. Researching Military Tradition (3 turns at 40%). The Sphinx is obsolete. The Chinese DID switch Edisons to Nanjing. Based on my calculations (since I can't spy), Nanjing will finish it in 4-5 turns...we can only do it in 7 turns. Here's what we are going to do: If we lose Edison's--which i'm pretty sure we will--switch Kal-el to Eiffel Tower and Golden Blubber to Arc de Triomphe (free garrisons on continent).

I upgrade 6 dragoons, 6 Cuir, 23 LI.

Note: In order to maximize the workers, continue working the railroad, and try to move them one at a time (so they can leapfrog as much as possible). You may want to start a pre-build for Statue of Liberty somewhere (not in SirJethro Stables...we need that Nat'l Monument).

HERE IS THE SAVE.

Sorry to see you go cromagnon, I enjoyed playing with you mate. Good luck for the future.

SJ, I bet that was a fun turn. I was thinking of starting something anyway, we had been peaceful for a long time. Glad its the Chinese.

Everything looks wonderful now that we have railroads and can plant forests. I'd like to know how Nanjing got to 118spt :eek:

I'll play until 1800 to even out the years, I just like them nice and round. It looks like it will be just you and me for the most part, so I'll check in more often to keep it rolling.

I'll have my turns done by tomorrow.
