SirJethro's DyP II - "The Emperor's New Mod"

Let's hold out for modern war vs. China. That should give conquest. Can't play till Monday. Anyone else?

one handed typing....sorry so short. daughter in lap.

Got it. Thursday morning is the last time I can play for 2 weeks at least, so hopefully we can squeeze the rounds out pretty quickly this week.....(I prefer to play in the mornings EST if you haven't figured that out yet)

Polynesia is gone and I finished what we started long ago with Tibet. Good luck

========================

First thing I do is (successfully) plant an agent in Polynesia. They have 3 cities, and 12 riflemen, and 1 clipper. 4 rifles per city. Prepare to slog it out....

I don't make any other changes....

Man...I'm still impressed by looking at China's navy.....

1892: China does quite a bit to soften up

Chinese building Emancipation Proc. in Nanjing. How nice of them..... :D

China did quite a lot to soften up Ua Pou in the OT...bombed it with all of their ships. I hope the damage stuck and wasn't healed by a barracks. China also attacked Haraiki with 3 cavs and redlined all three, killing none. Here we go.

Battle for Ua Pou: Art does 3hp damage to 5hp rifle. 6hp cav defeats 3hp rifle (takes 3 damage). 6hp cav dies to 3hp rifle (does 1 damage). 6hp cav dies to 3hp rifle. Grr, was hoping to save the cruisers for Haraiki, but I'm gonna use a few here to make sure. I have 3 cavs left and I think they have 2 rifles (3hp and 2hp). Cruiser kills Guild Hall. Cruiser kills harbor (exactly what I DIDN'T want). Cruiser fails. Back to cavs. 6hp Cav defeats 3hp rifle and becomes elite (takes 2 damage). 6hp cav defeats 2hp rifle (takes 2 damage). There's another rifle. Arg...6hp cav dies to redlined rifle. 6hp rifle kills 1hp rifle. We take city with our last unit and kill their clipper. We capture their Slave Trade.

Battle for Harahiki: Cruiser kills citizens. Cruiser knocks 2hp off 6hp rifle. Cruiser kills barracks. Cruiser kills University. Cruiser knocks 2 hp off 6hp rifle. 6hp cav does 3hp damage to 6hp rifle and dies. 6hp cav does 4hp damage to 5hp rifle and dies. Grrr...6hp Cav does 3hp damage to 5hp rifle and retreats. 6hp cav does 3 hp damage to 5hp rifle and dies. At least now we are beyond the fully healed troops. 6hp cav does 1hp damage to 4hp rifle and retreats. 6hp cav defeats 4 hp cav (the turn of the tide!). I slip in attacking with a Cav and send him on a wild goose chase around the city...wasting his turn. GRRR. 6hp cav redlines 3 hp rifle, but dies. Elite cav defeats 3hp rifle. I mop up with our rifles (losing 2 of them) and take the city on the last hp of our last rifle. That was damn close....too costly for my taste, but we took the city. We took Magellan's Voyage as well. :D

After those two fights...we have 9 cav on the island, but most of them are hurting bad, so we'll have to bombard Manihi while they heal.

BTW...my preference would have been to take Haraiki last because of the palace defense bonus. No matter, though. Poly is going down. Manihi is on tundra instead of hills like these last two. That will help.

1894: China wants to renew the ROP for Iron. I don't give ROP, but I give Iron for 1825gp. Ethiopians request audience, want MPP (and GPT from us!!!). No way. I renew Incan ROP with Elephants.

Bombing Manihi: Cruiser kills: (1) citizens, (2) nothing, (3) nothing, (4) citizens, (5) 3hp on rifle, (6) academy, (7) BARRACKS, (8) citizens, (9) theatre.

I rush everything on Siam island.

Our people add a small guest room to the palace.

WLTKs are ending everywhere. Folks are tired of this war.

I land all available forces outside Manihi. Right now they have 3 rifles, and one must have an offense flag because it is outside the city headed towards our city. It will fall next turn.

Bombing Manihi: Cruiser kills (1) 2 hp off 6hp rifle, (2) 2 hp off 5 hp rifle, (3) GARRISON, (4) failed, (5) 2hp off 4hp rifle, (6) guild, (7) failed, (8) harbor, (9) citizens.

I move lux slider up 10% to help with WW. I'll be glad to get out of this war next turn.

1898: Kalel: Stock Market>Wall Street
Sugar Bay: Battleship>Skyscraper (we need 5 of these for Empire St.)
Iron Mtn: Battleship>Fishery
Golden Blubber: Battleship>Public School
Malcomb: Library>Guild
Third Rock: Tollhouse>Windmill

We get most of our WLTK days back.

Bombing Manihi: Cruiser kills (1) citizens, (2) 1hp off 6hp rifle, (3) library, (4) port, (5) fail, (6) 2hp off 5hp rifle, (7) monument, (8) citizens, (9) 2hp off 5hp rifle. Artillery kills: (1) 2hp off 3hp rifle, (2) failed, (3) citizens, (4) failed.

Attacking Manihi: (1) 8hp Elite cav LOSES to 3 hp rifle. grrrr. (2) 6hp Elite cav beats 3hp rifle...no leader (no more elites). (3) Vet cav beats 1 hp rifle. Takes city. Polynesians have been destroyed.

Adjust slider for flight and bring lux back down 10%. Rush everything on Siam island and everything on Polynesian island except the city I just took. Change Wheat Thins from Bazaar to Basilica and rush (to get WLTKD).

I upgrade 2 clippers (we really do have more than we need) to transports for boating around workers.

1900: We lose our supply of silks, coffee. I add gems and tobacco to it and Mao agrees. We really are probably giving him too much...but it will be great when we go to war with him....he'll lose 6 luxuries!!!

Flight discovered. Unionization is next in 3 turns. Our Colossus, captured 2 turns ago, is no obsolete.

No, I haven't been paying attention to it. Have they been modding' it?

Got it.

BTW...I build biplanes for 2 reasons: upgrade path and recon. I don't use them so much for bombing, but I do like the recon ability quite a lot. We build them in 1 turn in some cities, so I'm going to build a few so we don't have to worry about jets down the road.

Since we are in such a lull and I'm in a bit of a rush today, I'm not going to report on every single build. I think we are on the same page for the most part with build order. I'll report the high spots....

IT: Change Tuskany from Airship (which I'm not a big fan of) to Bi-plane. I investigate the Chinese town of Pukapuka (where their furs are). It has no culture and is building rifles, meaning the furs outside their small radius will stay there for a while. Given that they won't pull the furs there into the city for a while, I'm going to colonize the fur next turn. Also, Inca's have sheep available. I give them Telephone for Sheep (I'm surprised they take a dead-end tech with a used-up wonder....).

1932: Complete Summer Palace on NBI (AI suggestion for next build is Winter Palace  ).

1934: Inca wants to renew ROP for Elephants and I do.

1936: Complete Nat'l History Museum in GB. Nat'l Historical Society there in 1 turn. We catch Mao trying to steal.

1938: Automatic Weapons researched. Tank Warfare in 3 (50%, -157gpt). Nat'l Historical Society in GB. I upgrade 55 riflemen to African Infantry for 2200gp....man, they look wicked. Hmm...polution on the Big Island, but no workers there....I'll have to take some from our continent (we have pollution there this turn also).

1940: The Chinese silks/coffee deal comes up for renewal. I'm going to do so (for the last time). China goes to war in 20 turns. I set Winter Palace build in Bangkok. I've gotten it to 32 turns, but can probably improve that in a turn or two with workers. We've had quite a run of pollution...I've been so busy clearing on the continent (forest pollution) that I haven't had workers to spare to the Big Island, where there are two polluted tiles. grrr.

1942: Nothing important.

1944: TANKS!!! Submarine Warfare (and next era) in 3 turns. I enter WAR-TIME MOBILIZATION...it is time to ramp up for China. I'm keeping science cranked for right now since we are starting to mobilize...the new techs will give us more options.

1946: We have two airfields on two tiles on our continent that can't be used by cities. I'm using it to move Tanks to an airfield on the Siamese island.

1948: Tanks are really rolling off the line. :D I'm also building some trucks, and am going to build a few more transports. We need at least a couple transports of Laborers to be a part of our initial invasion force (to build airfields and RR). Trucks can then land on the newly built airfields on the same turn and land either infantry or more workers that will still be able to move that turn....(have I said how much I love modern war?) :D

1950: Submarines discovered. Our free tech was Guerrilla Warfare (4 turns), which allows us to upgrade those Mujadin and opens Amphibious Warfare as our next tech. Marines! As soon as we get about 12 tanks or so, switch full time to Marines (and trucks).
Quokkaton produces Steel Foundry...gets 143 spt.

This is my last turn for at least 2 weeks as I'm going on vacation and won't have access to it. I won't be reading the forums either, so you won't hear from me. When you can start back up in a week Quokka, see if you can pull anyone else in. If you can finish before I get back, more power to you. I'm not sure if you saw my post a page or two back regarding tips, etc. for modern war. Take a look at that if you didn't see it before, since this is the first time through for ya. GOOD LUCK!!!!

HERE IS THE SAVE

Well I'm back and will have some time soon.

SJ, make sure you check out the DyP forums at CDGroup, Kal-el et al have been busy, 3 new builds and a complete civilopedia!

Hard Drive crash, it'll be a little longer

Yes it is.
Sorry about the delay Tarkeel. You don't need the latest version of DyP for this, we are using 1.10 build 5. You will need to be a beta tester to get even that version though. If you have it and the corresponding Spreadsheet go ahead an play next round, I'm about to play from here right now. You must have the 1.10b5 SS, the civilopedia is completely bogus for this build.

I'm back, but prob. won't be able to play for a few days. Quokka, looks like you got it soon. Hopefully we can finish this game up pretty quickly.

Welcome back SJ. RL is just throwing up all sorts of clutter at the moment, but I will have my turn done hopefully by tonight or tomorrow.

SJ can you do me a favour and post a copy of the PediaIcons.txt fro build 5. I have updated to build 9a and the its different enough that the game just crashes every time I try and load it.
