So I got the mac version for Christmas :) and I love it! One question though, how do I skip the intro movie? I'd like to make it so it automatically skips and goes directly to main menu upon bootup. Currently, it stats and despite my clicking all over and pressing escape tons of times, it doesn't stop the movie until like 1/3 the way through the movie. Any solutions?

Personally, I do the click-enter-escape dance. But there's a setting in the .ini file too.

I have the same issue in the windoze version

The video plays while the game loads up, so with the following change you will get a minute or so of black screen, instead of the intro video.

Open ~/Documents/Aspyr/Sid Meier's Civilization 5/UserSettings.ini in a text editor (TextEdit on Mac OS X, Notepad/Wordpad on Windows). In Windows the path is something like My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\UserSettings.ini, depending on Windows version.

Change the line:

SkipIntroVideo = 0

to

SkipIntroVideo = 1

That is such a crap design decision. It has annoyed me to no end in the Civ V demo (on Windows; I don't know of a Mac version). When you click the mouse or press any key, the video should immediately disappear and show some kind of loading progress indicator instead.

What were they thinking?! :shake:

I can't understand why a modern game running off a hard drive needs that kind of load time. But apparently does. (On Mac too.)

One thing I've noticed is that if I wait for the cursor to appear, I can press ESC once and the video ends immediately and I'm presented with the annoying legalize. That seems to be the cue that the load is done.

Yes, the cursor is displayed once the load process is complete. During the load process, the game window is totally locked and doesn't respond to mouse events, so there's no point in showing a cursor as you would not be able to move it.

I have no idea why game designers seem to need more CPU than the rest of the software industry put together, to do what appears to be relatively little.

Change the line:

SkipIntroVideo = 0

SkipIntroVideo = 1

Will doing this speed up the start, or will it take just as long?

Also, I am getting tired of seeing that Viking's belly on the tireme :lol:

Instead of the movie, you will see a blank screen.

At the earliest point where you would be allowed to quit of of the movie, it'll go straight to legalize.
