Small bug-fix released!

I've experienced the city give away "bug" in the two games I played. I didn't even know it was a bug. It was pretty funny though how I can pretty much always start a war, take a city, and then negotiate peace to get the rest of their cities. I've come to expect it now. And all I've have a is catapult, a couple of archers, and a couple of swordsmen, and the AI will give me 5 cities when he could've at least attempted to build units to defend while I try to take each city one by one.

it's a bug where after making peace with the AI

you can never again declare war on them... the peace treaty last forever instead of for 10 turns. There is also a bug that makes trades last longer than the 30 turns.

It sucks and I hope they patch it soon

Yup, managed to get 90 turns trade with Bismark trading whales for pearls and gold. :D

Ofc soon they are going to be mine :D

This will make my day! I just logged into steam but no active update yet:( But as long as it is coming down the road I have something to look forward to:D

Thanks for the update!

Can someone tell us when this update will be available? Clearly it isn't 1.0.0.17 because I had that version since I downloaded the game as soon as it became available 24th sep. and there is still city give away. didn't experience eternal peace, but I never made peace with anyone once I got to war, so who knows...

@ SickFaq

Hot fix is .17 as its confirmed on the 2k forums.

Now to balance production costs....

What? But... but it didn't fix the city-give-away, it's still like Christmas when you go to war...

Off topic: @ grandad1982 :lol: SickFaq

So in a state of the art strategy game, a completely screwed up peace negotiation AI that practically gives you half its kingdom is not a show stopper bug? They did rudimentally test this game right, or did they?

I don't like what I hear about the UI either. Sounds like they have dumbed down the game and lost touch with depth. Seems Firaxis realy is losing it in terms of quality and the sense of what is truly important...

Sounds like some pretty major bug-fixes, actually :)

I assume Firaxis has been working on the patch since the code was frozen. The game gets finished and burned onto CDs DVDs weeks (?) before launch date, so there's quite a lot of time to find bugs and prepare a patch.

I wonder if, as a marketing move, companies deliberately wait a few days after release before rolling out the patch, so that it doesn't look like a zero-day fix.

the UI is a million times better than Civ IVs clunky garbage UI.... and I really don't understand what the UI has to do with the games depth.

Civ V is just as deep as IV, it just looks a hell of a lot better and steamlined. cry about it more please

I have played two games so far and encountered no bug yet. Peace did last 10 turns (after which I was ready to leapfrog once more) as advertised. The AI did sell me a city once, when we were not at war, but that wasn't exactly a give-away and almost killed me (approx. 60 turn paralysis after handing him 6 luxury goods for 30 turns, when my happiness dropped to about -45).

I miss a few things from Civ IV though...the spies (not so much), the corporations, tech trading (maybe I missed how to do it, but I can't find an option for it), and the little side effects of some achievements (+1 movement at sea when first going round the globe, complete map after the Apollo program, etc.).

I hope there will be great mods for it as for the predecessor...I think the ratio of unmodded to modded games was like 1:10 for me (mostly FfH and Rhys and Fall - and a big thanks to the makers of those :) ).

I disagree. Civ5's UI is clunky. The interface is too large at small scale. I'd hate to see what the large interface looks like. Civ4 fit everything you need to know all on one screen. With Civ5, you have to click menus and submenus to get to different stuff, which would be ok if you could have it open all at once. And the UI in general doesn't flow well. Like if I click a city in the economics menu, it doesn't open that city for me. Or if I'm reading the Civilopedia, the information isn't as complete as Civ4. It will describe information but rarely explain it or provide stats for it. And I never see links to related information, while in Civ4, if I looked up a promotion, it would include promotions that it leads to and that it requires, and I click those to read them as well.

People claim the game is streamlined, but actually it requires more tedious micromanaging. I don't like how everything has maintenance costs. I don't see a way to set governors in cities anymore, which means I'm better off conquering cities and leaving them as puppet cities, otherwise turns would take forever. A governor would probably ruin your economy by building things you don't need. Even with the puppet states, I've seen them start building factories and other resource dependent buildings, which prevents me from building those in cities I actually care about. About the only thing I like about the UI is how notifications appear on the right side instead of pop-ups.

Hi, can somebody tell me where to check (in steam?) which version I am running as it dosent seem that the update is available on my steam account. I checked in the news section and the update section and can only see the original release of the game, nothing further or any patch info.
Thanks

Check CivilizationV.exe's properties.

I'm pretty sure it's really easy to return the +1 Movement from Circumnavigation feature to Civ V.

Inside GlobalDefines.XML:

Code:
 <Row Name="CIRCUMNAVIGATE_FREE_MOVES">
     <Value>0</Value>
 </Row>
A mod changing that 0 to a 1 seems to be in order, eh?

Waaaah, I can't play mods because I have the game installed on a drive other than C.

I hear that. :( This is not the only software that causes me problems, because of trying to have my OS drive separate from my DATA and PROGRAMS drive. I am throwing in the towel. :( I just reconfigured to one drive.

Why are people ignoring that this "patch" didn't patch the city-give-away which it supposedly intended to fix?
