SNES: Absolution III

The King of Medea exercises authority over his lands by having the royal army patrol the roads and protect the trade caravans. The king’s tribute collectors and officials are present in every city, and periodically pass through the minor villages. The collected tributes from provinces and trade are used to finance the king’s professional bureaucracy (cities possess their own individual administrative structures), the army, and the maintenance and construction of the imperial palace complex, which in its hilltop-fortress location, has grown into a city unto itself.
The king grants unclaimed land to rewards his favored subjects, a practice which has been in use since the time his great-great uncle held the throne. This particular monarch is noticeable in his policy of granting tracts not only to court favorites and loyal soldiers, but also successful and prosperous peasants, providing an extra degree of social mobility. While this encourages those of farming ilk to settle new tracts (or sell them off to other farmers) there is also a current of demographic movement into the urban centers.
A lively trade occurs between the timber towns of the mountains, the metal-smelting citadels of the hills and the agricultural and ceramic-making regions of the floodplains. Central marketplaces allow populations to access the collected goods of the region, and work can be found in civil improvement projects, building walls buildings and city water systems. Workers are also employed by rich landowners, constructing agricultural irrigation systems. For those peasants not wealthy enough to employ workers to build the necessary improvements for their farms, they will band together to accumulate the sums necessary for a deposit and then guarantee a portion of their crops for a certain amount of time to their creditors.
Record keeping is crucial for keeping track of debts and large inventories, so a new innovation has originated in the land of the two rivers. Pictographs representing obligations and monetary transactions have been simplified into shorthand symbols. Practice and convention has standardized words and number symbols, which have been adopted by a new class, royal scribes, allowing the oral laws of the kingdom to be codified in writing. They are carved in monolithic stones and displayed in public areas.
The Medean cities dominate Mesopotamian trade, providing the luxuries, skins, metal goods, and timber to the small independent urban centers to the west. Settlements, protected by the army, are being built in advantageous locations adjacent to Sumerian settlements, with the stream of Medean settlers and their economic vitality helping to secure military, political, and economic sovereignty over the region.

WAR

Hostilities began between the Mycenae and the Semerians over the Semerian African colonies. Semeria began preparations for the war by conscripting most of the men from their nation to bulk their army up to Huge. They then began rushing their docks to build up the fleet and rushed themselves into place around the Balearics where a Mycenaean fleet was moving to land forces between Gaul and Semeria to block trade. The navies were of the same size, and the Semerian leadership was gifted, having an acute grasp of naval tactics and destroying many Mycenaean ships laden with soldiers before he was finally beaten and forced to retreat by the more advanced and better trained Mycenaeans who left a far smaller Semerian fleet.

But the Mycenaean plans for the land between Gaul and Semeria could not be fully realized and the General, fearing the vast Semerian army, recently upgraded to Antiquity by German traders, chose to keep his landfall closer to Gaul. Here he put into place the next part of the Mycenaean plan. He sent spies into the Semerian countryside to promote rebellion, which would have mixed results. The hope was to capitalize on the Sadness generated by the relatively recent conquest of these peoples, but with few men left not conscripted into the Semerian army there was noone to rebel, noone that is, except for the slaves. A small slave revolt began in a northern plantation lead by an ambitious overseer slave who wanted to establish his own kingdom in Northern Semeria, but this was put down by a counterrevolution of highly nationalistic slaves. Though the slave population has dropped significantly, the north remains in Semerian hands and the only traces of the Greek propaganda are slave riots in Portugal.

In Africa both the Semerians and the Mycenaeans hoped to surprise each other with bold overland marches, and in the desert where the armies met the superior Semerian numbers were telling, and the Semerian Tula formation proved its superiority. The Spartan general realized that all was lost if he was beaten in the Desert and quickly retreated, giving his surviving men no time for rest along the massive trek, to Carthage (the Mycenaean colony). The Semerians followed later, but the newly constructed defenses gave the Mycenaeans a slight advantage.

The Mycenaean navy tried to press its advantage against the Semerians but the Semerian Admiral was too smart to meet them in open battle after the losses from the first and began pirating against Mycenaean supply ships attempting to resupply the Mycenaean beachhead. He retreated from it when the Mycenaeans sent massive reinforcements there, which helped them to take the land all the way to the Semerian border and begin a press inside, though they were firmly stopped at the Pyrenees by well prepared and well numbered Semerian defenders.

In an interesting turn of events the Trojan adherents of the Earth Mother cult are protesting the war in favor of pacifism, calling it an imperialistic and cruel war, and believing that the ‘earth would have us love on another.’ The Mycenaean economy also went into a recession after it was cut off from its northern markets by the war. The Velikoslavian economy, with an overland trade route to the Germans with whom much of the Mycenean trade is conducted, started serious growth at their empense.

To The Imperialist Myceneans
From Semeria

You see how war against Semeria is unwise - we have superior generals, and superior fighters. It is not wise to threaten your superior neighbores. We are willing to settle for peace, considering you withdraw from Iberia of course.

OOC: Great update, but is there a reason the Cinese have not teached us Antiquity Tech or you just forgot to update that? No problem if you have but i would like to know before i make a story and issue orders.

The Nipponic Expansion into south Asia proceeded excellently, though quickly it became apparent that the current governmental system was not adequate to cope with such a big nation, now the warlords had to travel between their ancient holdings and their newly conquered lands, this was a very time consuming and inefficient way to rule ones lands so the High Warlords Yoshimo gathered the Warlords, the Sages and the brightest minds of the nation together to devise a grand plan.
“Warlords, sages and grand masters, we convene here to decide the faith of the nation” announced Yoshimo.
“Now that our oversea holdings are greater than our island nation’s we must devise a more efficient way to manage them, during your stay as guest in china our Chinese friends have teached you many great things, Iron working was one of them, but also new ways to rule a nation, one system is called the Republic, the other is the Empire.”
“Nippon is in an age of expansion, and therefore a republic would only slow the nation down, the people we conquer would need to be educated and made self-sufficient before a republic would work, so I propose we start working into adapting the Empire Governmental System.
With Governors to be appointed into the newly conquered lands our nation’s growth will be unstoppable, any objection or comment?”
“My lord, what about our ancient lands? They have been our families for many generations, would you ask us to let them be ruled by some man appointed by you?” Warlord Kenji asked.
“No, all the original lands of the Founding Clans of Nippon will be an exception to the rule, you will all receive the Hereditary Position of Viceroy, while all the abroad holdings will be ruled by appointed governors, of course these governors will be recruited mostly from the Viceroy families, with the exception of some exceptionally talented folk”

Orders:
Start Wonder: Grand Imperialization: (Changes Government to Empire, Increases Speed of Expansion)
Upgrade Both Army, Navy and UU with Iron Weapons. (its done automatically?)
Expand Westwards (north and south too) into Asia but don’t go north of the Chang Jiang River.

From Nippon
To China
We are happy to see your nation grow and prosper, we are working on a way to apply the Empire Government to our nation and stimulate our expansion, will you do that too or do your people prefer the Republic form of Government?

Your navy did not loose a single battle what happened was this, Jason built up his navy to an equal size as yours so despite the fact that it was less advanced and less well trained it was still a force to be reckoned with. He also PMed me a very convincing strategy which I represented through a particularly brilliant Admiral who fought hard and who gave you losses before your navy won the battle around the Balaeric islands well enough to drop his navy from Large to Small. He spent the rest of the turn harassing your supplies until you sent the 1/3 of the army because that was too big of a maneuver for him to disrupt.

OOC: Uh, the Earth-Mother cult is not all that pacifistic. Albeit, it is not very agressive neither.

SKILORD, can you please send a barbarian horde or an imperialistic empire down my way? It's alittle boring with all the peaceful expansion...

IC:

The days of early Velikoslavia were shrouded in darkness. Nevertheless, it is known that early Velikoslavia managed to unite most of the Slavic tribes under its banner. Its tribalism was a fairly efficient system, albeit very primitive. Ever since the Herculian Wars, Velikoslavia lived in peace. With no external thread, the unity of the tribes was threatened. Indeed, some of the chieftains were said to be "praying for a threat".

And a threat came.

Orders:
- Grow navy once.
- Grow education (due to increasing contact with other cultures).
- Continue expansion in all directions.
- Encourage agriculture, make sure that all our people are fed.

The King was dead. After over 70 years of rule, King Hassan al-Saradin was dead. This was only to be expected of course, he was not an immortal, after all. This still did not mean the Ajaj people mourned any less, as he was a great leader indeed, having doubled the size of the nation and assimilating many other peoples into Ajaj.
But now, it was his son's time. Nahman al-Saradin was ready to take up the rule of the nation with his wife Narua. He was 32, and after studying politics most of his life he felt he and his wife were indeed prepared to accept Kingship and Queenship.
And so, the Ajaj Monarchy was born.

Orders: Change Government to Monarchy(I can do this, right?) Grow economy, continue expanding into Africa while converting the natives. Grow navy, start building small, simple aqueducts to bring water from the Mediterranean to the more deserted towns to help with agriculture.

edit: Oh, sweet I'm in Atiquity. Start arming our men with iron weapons and such.
OOC: Oh, and, SKILORD, why does it say my economy is uncontrolled? Make it controlled again if I have do do that at the start of each new age.

Comanche

And the Commanche continued to expand. More and more lands were calimed and more hunting-ground were found. As they were nomads it was very difficult the rule the entire nation. Therefore the Master Chieftain ordered the building of a sacred place, where the chieftains and the shamans of the particular nomad tribes would meet once a year to talk about threats and other dangers for the Commanche tribes. (My capital=Sacred Place)

Orders:
-continue expansion
-grow economy

1. Armies upgrade for a new age automatically.

2. This is a problem that arises when you have the first post changed as a word file and forget to update that when you update the mistakes and additions you make in the first post.
