It is true that you are closer to them, easier to invade and occupy your rightful land. Itallia should be under the rule of you, King of the Gauls. What is stopping you from taking it? Nothing. And you shall have a friend at your side if you need it.

OOC: Egyptians didn't built any canal. They PLANNED to build togheter with the Phoenicians a canal... They didn't because an Egyptian priest said it will be used by Egypt enemies and not Egypt itself! Interesting note, moe than 2000 years later it became true as Britian and Europe, conquerers of Egypt used the Canal ;)

We are all Indians. Let's ally to rule the world!

Dont encourage it Jason, only because the Aztecs built a piramid does not mean they can build the empire state building or the twin towers.

the last thing we need is people thinking that just doing a wonder means building whatever is on their mind :p

Fine. Screw the wonder. I wasn't feeling very creative, I just wanted to have a wonder slightly different than some jackass temple or whatever.

How about we divide up the peninsula between us, for future expansion? Do not force us to raze your colony, we would really like to be at peace with your nation.

It's better then "Soandso's Speach" or "Military/science/culture/economic/blahblah Academy" which are so common and not what I would consider a "wonder".

Egyptians did build a canal, it is possible. Would you not consider the Suez Canal a wonder of the modern world? This canal can be a wonder of the ancient world easily (hoping that it isnt a simple canal).

Thanks Jason, but I still don't think I'll really benefit from such a canal anyway. I'd probably gain more from a more generic wonder. That's why people build them, after all.

Instead:
Extra orders: Expand into Africa, spread the glory that is the teachings of Allah and Mohammad to the natives.
(by the way- don't ask how Islam could exist in 4000 b.c., it just does in this world)

I edit my posts alot.

To Egypt (do I know them?)

Great and mystical builders of the Nile, I, King Ito of Semeria greets you. However, I do not come under peaceful terms. My nation is in a war, defending itself from the imperial Mycenaens who threaten all of the sea. Can we count on Great Egyptian neutrality? It would do the most to help establish trade between our peoples.

Thats because the purpuse of the canal built is COMPLETELY different of modern day suez canal.
only because both are canals and both are in the Sinai location does not mean they are the same thing.

you said it, wonders of the modern world, 'Modern'. there are so many reasons why a suez canal couldnt have been built in those days. can simple canals be built? yes, but not a suez canal to move things from the mediterrenean to the red sea.

and i do agree w/ you on the speech wonders, i never figured out why mods allowed them to exists. and the same for the academys, altough there has been more than a few examples of military academys w. profound effects

No, there wasn't a canal linking from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean, but there was a grand canal built linking the Red to branching Nile rivers in the delta. During that time, there were more lakes in the Suez area, which helped to connect the parts of the canal. They were not for different purposes. Purpose: to link the Mediterranean to the Red Sea. That's the last thing i will say for fear of skilord's wrath.

After examining the site which Jason provided and looking deeply into the subject I have decided that the canal can stand if you still want it Matt.

Personally I have not seen Speech wonders ever, and if I see them here they probably won't stand.

I have personally always been rather lenient towards academies, but those are hard to do more than once if I choke up on wonder duplication, as I plan to. There has been a notable exception to this already, but that is understood I hope.

The Brittanians did not recieve the message from the druids, the ship carrying it was pillaged and sank before the messenger could say anything coherent.

ok, lets say that somehow u make a huge hole stretching for many many many many miles (which would take houndreds of years of continued work) then what? where u getting the water? the ones built connected a river to the ocean, thats easy. now you are trying to connect 2 seas, you can use the water of the two seas to finish it up, but you need to make sure ALL of the canal is at least sea level! which is pretty much imposible. you dont have modern mechanical pumps to over come that problem. do you have any idea how the suez or panama canals work?, they are not just human made rivers, ships move from section to section, each section is flooded so the ship can go to the next level up or down........ and i havent even started........ >_<

From Teutonic Empire of Germania:

Say, we have noticed the little fight you are about to begin. however it is sad that your civilisation as well as soldiers are so backward, well sell you the lastest military and social technology (antiquity tech) to close the gap between you and your foes.

only 2 economy levels. :D

ooc: I told you all, forget the wonder. I know how canals work, they have those little door things to keep the water from flowing like a river. I intended it to be something that would be built over hundreds of years, like the Great Wall. But what benefit would I gain from it? Trade with the European nations that I don't even have contact with?
Like I said, screw it. I only mentioned it for my nation to have something to do, but instead I'll colonize Africa, which is much more beneficial.

:delurk: emm...the great wall we see today in China was all built during the Ming Dynasty. :lurk:

Of course you would know.

Actually, it was started in the Qin Dynasty and restored in 1368 by the Ming Dynasty, but this is an NES, not a history lesson.

Let's get our orders in everyone, this is a fast moving NES.
