Snoopy's Terrain Graphics Modpack

That is alot nicer!
Great Job!

:goodjob:

eek

reinstall? redownload?

to others:

I medianised the water to make it less grainy, but in doing that it makes it harder for the graphic to blend correctly, I'm amazed at how well it has blended as it is, but whats happened is that it's given this 'illusion'? that the colour is off, but it probably isn't, it's just that the colours aren't mixing well around the coastal areas.

I could be wrong tho :D

I just put up with it, coz I tried going back to the original water, and I just couldn't coz it sucked.

I think I've worked it out - all I did was copy "your" terrain file into the art directory, and I just "renamed" the original. Therefore, any files that your pack didn't contain effectively got deleted as far as the program is concerned. Silly, Silly mer - trying to be too clever.

I almost made that mistake, too. IMHO the best way to do it is to first make a ZIP of the whole original folder and then just copy the new terrain files over the old ones (copy&paste and "Yes to all" when it asks if you want to overrwrite).

By the way, is there some way to change the colors on the small map of the world in the lower left corner. It is much too dark, IMO, espceially hard is to make a difference between ocean and unexplored tiles.

Wow! What a great modpack. I thought the original graphics were pretty good. Snoopy proved me wrong! I love your new graphics their great.

I have a question on the mountains:

I like the redish brown mountains and I like the grey mountains however when you get a map with a red mountain inbetween two greys (or vise-vesa) it looks really out of place. I wish there were a way to cause them to be seperated but I know there is not.

I've noticed that opinions seem to be split between the two colors as to which is better. I think they are both great.

Now my question:

Could you post it both ways? have a grey mountains mod and a red mountains mod. I don't know which I would use, maybe I'd switch. I just hate seeing a red mountain in a grey mountain range. I've had this happen in 3 different maps in multiple places.

I think this way everyone would be happy. The two mods could even be mixed and matched.

I've seen some of your new cities. Can't wait for those to be released! Have you sent your resume to Firaxis yet:D

Hi Snoop!
Would you be interested in producing a mod pack for those of us that are color blind? The game does have a color blind help option in the latest patch but it does nothing to change the color pallete. I'm not sure how you would go about doing this however, Alpha Centauri had one by way of Firaxis so they may be a resource.
Keep up the great work!

Am I the only one who thinks this modpack looks like the hand of an amateur compared to the graphics that came with the game?

um, so far I do believe you are the only one who has openly stated they dont like this pack.

I wont play civ 3 without it. . .

Hmmm, to be perfectly honest:
(Firaxians please do not read any further)

The first time I saw the original Sn00py modpack last year I thought: why does this terrrain modpack look so much more professional compared to the graphics that came with the game?

I could not image to play without Sn00pys work anymore.

However, I must admit that in the new version trees perhaps became a little too dominant in some areas:
- the forrest are really "thick", it sometimes even is difficult to see an enabled grid or the frozen Tundra beneath the trees
- jungle mountains appear not so much like mountains anymore, they do look more like little "thumbs" beneath the plants.

So Jinglehopper, if you do not like the new Sn00py mod, perhaps try the old one that also contains very nice "irrigation" graphics that are not included with the new modpack (why?).

I like and stay with the new version, as the graphics are vivid and I like my game to change and grow over time.

Go on Sn00py - Firaxis should hire you!

Which firaxis/infrolames design team member in disguise are you??????

its one or the other as they are the only 2 reasonable explantions for not liking Snoopys:king: work!!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

That's what my brother said :crazyeye:

Altho I do remember from a chat.. well I think I recall one of the Firaxians use my graphics.

I'm going to finish the city gfx, jungle hills/mountains and maybe the forest hills/mountains.

and anything else that i've forgotten.

I just wanted to talk about something that ColdFever has brought up.

One of the main reasons it's hard to make Civ's graphics look good is because of the tiling. Civ is a strategy game to many people, like chess, and so the graphics don't really bother them.
That's okay with me, everyones got their own likes and dislikes.

As for me, I am a nature "freak"? I like the rolling hills, large powerful mountains, lush green grass, tree's as far as the eye can see and sparkling rivers running thru them, but in order to do this in Civ, I have to 'kill' the square look, because squares make things unnatural, and this is why I have decided not to make the tree's have their own tile, but instead make them appear like they are spreading to every other tile and look cluttered, which is much more natural looking.

For some unknown reason, the map generator doesn't seem to generate a massive amount of forest (it does with jungle). So I had to make up my own map, and I put a tonne of tree's mixed with the autumn ones, and put a few rivers in it, looks beautiful :) :) :)

now, if only I could add animation.. firaxis? ;) :D

Oh dear, seems like it's national idiot day again.

Jinglehopper simply stated his opinion (in a friendly and polite way at that). If you are so obsessed with this game that you cannot accept any form of criticism towards it then something in your little fanboy-head clearly needs 'adjustment'. I'm using the term 'adjustment' very loosely here, mind you.

Oh, and to save me some grief: in case you choose to write a reply, please check if it contains one/several of the following phrases:

1) lols, OMG I bet ur ugleh as fk and dont have any friends at all :rotfl:
2) lols, OMG look m8tey, Id love 2 lower myself 2 ure level but I really dont feel like arguing with someone as stupid as u :rotfl:
3) lols, OMG yo momma so...

If you happen to find one of these phrases in your post, DO NOT PRESS 'REPLY'. Click on the friendly little 'X' on the top right of your screen instead and give my poor nerves their well-deserved rest.

Thank you.

snoopy, to eliminate trees hanging on the water, can't you just give the trees on the new forests pcx files the same shape as the original forests pcx files (so that each square would have the same shape as the corresponding square in the original pcx file)?

Yes, I know that would work, but if I did that I would have to sacrifice the nice blend the tree's have as it is now. Personally, I would rather put up with the tree's hanging over the land.

Believe me, I see all the problems, and I can't stand them, but there is little I can do without causing more problems (ugliness)

Very great work! I can't play without !

Hey Partisan in my original post do you see the 3 little heads rolling around at the bottem of the screen? let me refresh your memory
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

that means rotflmao..... dude learn to recognize humor.

I was simply pointing out to a minority(extreme) that that opinion was right up there with the Detroit Tigers winning the pennant ( they are currently 0-9)
