I just wanted to talk about something that ColdFever has brought up.
One of the main reasons it's hard to make Civ's graphics look good is because of the tiling. Civ is a strategy game to many people, like chess, and so the graphics don't really bother them.
That's okay with me, everyones got their own likes and dislikes.
As for me, I am a nature "freak"? I like the rolling hills, large powerful mountains, lush green grass, tree's as far as the eye can see and sparkling rivers running thru them, but in order to do this in Civ, I have to 'kill' the square look, because squares make things unnatural, and this is why I have decided not to make the tree's have their own tile, but instead make them appear like they are spreading to every other tile and look cluttered, which is much more natural looking.
For some unknown reason, the map generator doesn't seem to generate a massive amount of forest (it does with jungle). So I had to make up my own map, and I put a tonne of tree's mixed with the autumn ones, and put a few rivers in it, looks beautiful
now, if only I could add animation.. firaxis?
