So I can usually make it to this point well enough...

As VMXA alludes to 'cheating' involves a violation of the rule of the game. The AI never violates the rules of the game. So, it never cheats. The rules may not seem fair to you personally, but that's a different story.

FWIW, the "AI knows the entire map" thing is the only real 'cheat' in the game. The other 'handicapping' stuff (extra units, cheaper AI-AI trades, etc) is all readily visible and discoverable in the Editor. The "AI knows the entire map" stuff is hidden to the player.

i just dont like it when all of the other civs know where the barb camps are and beat me to them

What I hate about them knowing where the barb camps are, is the fact that if your territory is located between them and the barbs their units will wander through your territory to reach the barbs. This can only be an advantage if you want them to declare war on you.

They are only coming through your land, when they consider you to not be strong.

Actually, I've seen them come through even when I am strong in relation to them, if they are trying to move units between disconnected bits of their empire, or if returning from a war.

So you are telling me that even though you are considered strong by them, they still send explorers into your land? I have never seen that before and I am not buying it.

If there is open land behind you and they have knowledge of the path, they will send settler combo's across regardless, but you can demand they leave. We were not talking about that or being at war with you or someone on the other side of you.

I often see them come right up to my border, but they back off. Of course I will not ask them to leave, I will kill them instead, but that is another story. IOW they will not bother your land, if you are strong, just to explore.

The only time I've ever seen the AI back off from my territory is when I've blocked their path to their destination, via a chokepoint or just stringing units across my territory.

That being said, that's usually later in the game when I have the units to do so. If I want to block them earlier in the game I usually have to have five units 'escort' them back to their territory. I can't recall an instance where I've had enough units to keep them out of my territory without blocking their path, or enough units to respect the boarder.

as i said, nothing stops them from getting to where they want to go, ive had escorted settlers go through my territory while i was at war with them. i just slaughtered them anyway, but they just kept sending more and more
