So why can't 20% of Americans find their country on a world map?

Because primary and secondary education in America is terrible.

How can they find it if they don't have maps? I wouldn't be surprised if a 1/5 of americans don't have atlases and what not .

Schools are to busy teaching being nice and other diversity training. And parents don't make sure their kids aren't idiots.

It goes back earlier than secondary school; everything in the American education system is so test-intensive that some subjects ( arts, geography, etc.) fall by the wayside.

It's because America being the best country should be the biggest too, but Russian commies poisoned the mind of the atlas manufacturers.

I'll bet the involvement of parents has something to do with it. Many parents are "too busy" to actually sit down and read to their children, or explore what the world has for them.

Because no schools teach geography any more, and it's pathetic. How are you supposed to live on this planet and not know where things are?

I just can't believe that poll to be accurate, unless they took it in a class of 7 year olds. It just can't be, can it?

Garmin GPS ......

Jeez... I've been able to find the US, Russia, China, Iraq, Japan, and most Western European countries on a map since I was about five...

Homeschooling FTW!!

Look at you're avatar, that is thier president...

And I'm sure he has everything to do with why some people are complete dumbasses.

You can find those world-wide man, not just under a leader that gets picked on a lot for taking some action finally..

Does anybody actually think that 1 out of 5 people can't find America on a globe? Think about that for a moment.

Yes, or do you have a study that says otherwise?

Americans and geography, in general, don't go well together, seriously, how many people here have studied geography in school here?

ive studied geography in school, but if you have ever even seen a damn weather report on the news then you should know what America looks like. I just don't see how we can get off saying it has to do with not teaching geography in school.

I realy thing that for us to consider a poll used in a question for a beuty patgent, to even be 50% accurate, is the only thing idiotic about this.

after thinking about it i think miss south carolina gave the best answer, because if she said "WTH' a few more jaws might have droped.
