Solver's unofficial BtS 3.17 patch

0.19.1: Unofficial Update to the Unofficial Patch

Since Solver has been busy and there are some major bugs that need to be addressed, I compiled an update to the unofficial patch. I had wanted to get his approval before posting this but I haven't yet heard back and this has been delayed long enough so I'll just take my lumps.

Given that the main purpose of this release is to fix some things which were broken in 0.19 or have shown up since then, I am calling this 0.19.1. To that end I have chosen to not address things which Solver has explicitly spoken out against; specifically the AI favorite civic redline behavior. The list of changes are below; big thanks to both DanF5771 and jdog5000 for providing some of these fixes.

Changes from version 0.19

File is attached to this post the first post of the linked topic; as with Solver's releases the source for those files which differ from the original 3.17 is included and the documentation is just as sparse. ;) As always, back up your current files before replacing them with these.

Please respond to this the linked thread regarding any problems specific to this release. Thanks. The new spread culture behavior may wind up needing some adjustment so I am particularly interested in any comments related to that.

I'm a bit confused about installing this. If I choose the original folder it asks to install to (the BtS folder) will it overwrite that folder? Also, if i save it as an asset will it overwrite anything? Just confused. Thanks

Solver, I just updated my system using your patch now. I did this because I was needing/wanting the superior Espionage discount feature I asked Bhruic to add in his last patch. Any chance you could include this? Otherwise, it is a huge pain to have to go through every friggen spy each turn and manually go through all the hoops to see which gives you the best discount for the operation. It is much easier & sane to be able to instantly see the correct espionage discount by just hovering the mouse over a fortified spy.

Thanks in advance.

Affirmative. Ever since I updated from Bhruics .13 patch to the newer & Official .17 that information has disappeard. I had a feeling it would anyway, just looking at Firaxis' past reputation...

Very odd. It is definitely part of Official 3.17 and I thought it was one of the things that was basically just adopted by Firaxis from the Bhruic patch; it's possible that the Firaxis implementation was different, though, as I haven't yet compared the two sources.

Do you by any chance use BUG? There might be some conflict with the BUG Plot List Enhancement module and this information as BUG-PLE implements some custom unit mouseovers. Try it without mods and see if the info is still missing.

If you are already doing it without any mods, then we'll have to try other methods to track down the problem. Which version of the Unofficial Patch are you using?

Yes, I am using Bug, the same one that I installed for 3.13. The only problem so far with Bug that I noticed is that the note-reminder feature doesn't seem to work.

I'm not sure now, can I just turn Bug off totally, or do I have to uninstall/reinstall stuff?

Alright, I found the problem!

Yes, there was an improvement, but not a good one.

Now, you STILL need to click on every freiken spy each turn, but then only have to move the mouse afterward to the red icon on the bottom pannel to see the % pop up on the left. Granted, it's an improvement over having to go through hoops and barrels clicking each spy then going to the whole espionage window option crap. But Bhruics' method is still superior over this. In that version, all we had to do is move the mouse across our list of spies on the screen, and instantly it would tell us the % for discount on the same info display that tells you the movement points left on that unit, etc. Simple wasn't it?

The only thing I would improve on Bhruic's patch was it would be nice to order the spy units in left to right depending on their fortification level. Or at least color-code the border boxes for this.

But the firaxis system is still very bad, and probably why you don't see many spy ecconomies even after all this time. It's just too cumbersome to play with.

To temporarily turn BUG off, just rename your CustomAssets folder to something like "BUGCustomAssets" and then launch the game. Then see if you get the same behavior where you need to select the spy units first or whether the info shows in the mouseover. This will help isolate whether it's a BUG issue (which I suspect) or a DLL issue.

To turn BUG back on, delete the new (emtpy) CustomAssets folder that the game will create after you run it and rename your backup to CustomAssets again.

Dresden, renaming the folder did the trick. The % is back now in the pop-up like before. So perhaps it is a BuG issue. I guess I"ll just keep it off until it's improved down the road.

The main reason I got BuG in the first place was for the Glance menu.

this patch makes me moist

Sorry if I'm being stupid but don't these two points conflict?

[*] Access to the Barrage line removed from armored units. If units with access to Barrage and no inherent collateral damage are modded in, they will work.

[*]Barrage promotions made working again on Tanks and other units with no base collateral ability

If I install this patch will my tanks (unmodded) be able to access barrage?

No. You must modify the Tank in the units XML file to have access to the Barrage promotion (or the other way around, I forget which).

That's not quite right. You simply don't include the Promotions.xml file that's included with this patch.

Well, technically that's the same as modifying the promotions XML file back to how it was. :D
