SonIOT I: For All the Marbles

The elder council never reformed. The various Basque tribes were no longer united under one council. Some of the settlements, especially Opalia, flourished. The older settlements in the shadow of the mountains of Pirinioak began to decay. The bands in Marokon grew wealthy from their conquest of the natives.

As they grew apart, the Euskaldunak fractured. Many in the new lands no longer believed in Pirinioak. New faiths spawned, especially in Marokon, where the conquerors adapted the natives' beliefs.

*snip*

And everyone, unless your computer would literally crash or take thirty minutes to do it, please use the freaking newest map. And crop it so it fits around your nation, not your entire continent, Mosher.

Um... says the guy who used the entire, massive map? There's a reason I spoiler my claims map. If it's too large for you, don't open the spoiler, my expansion doesn't have anything to do with you yet.

Actually, I was doing that because I thought the orders lock was like an hour before I posted. Since you reminded me, I went and edited it in imgur, but I have no idea if/when that will take effect.

Anyway, the reason I said that was because I tend to read every single post in this game. Also because I tend to say stupid things.

Update later today. No new orders involving new trade routes or affecting current ones.

Update 6
....and the Whole Rotten Structure Falls.

GM Note

This is the longest IOT I've ever ran...or even seen that hasn't had a war within the first six updates. In my most successful IOT, RIOT, there had been already near a million soldiers dead fighting in the Middle East.

On a related note, writing this update was smoother than last time since I have a MUCH better system now than I did last time. But, as always, feel free to check my adding in case I somehow screwed up calculating totals (though, I did go back over the entire chart with a surgical knife to root out as many mistakes as possible).

Summary

The Plague has left Berbera but has ended up in Iraf, a major trade hub in it's own right. Meanwhile, bubble bursts have claimed three relatively isolated cultures and trade networks. Bering was hit particularly hard due to no trade growth combined with the fact that it has no foreign trade in the first place. This resulted in Bering being hit with FOUR turns of a Recession (which, with better handling, will be gone by Turn 10).

The Northern European Trade Network was also hit. Wertania saw no domestic growth and because London is a trade network, the MASSIVE infrastructure increase doesn't really affect the trade route modifier for another couple of turns. Both were already resting on bubbles.

Many cultures are now on a bubble now and better be careful. A quick look at Bering's Recession-hit LP should be a major warning. The good news about the three Recessions is that it helped to lower what would otherwise be an extremely expensive city. Indeed, some are starting to believe that, through shrewed economic warfare combined with actual military warfare, a culture may be able to gain great amounts of wealth or, at least, cause enough destruction without seeing much on their end that city costs will go drastically.

After all, when at war, one won't be affected by any negative trade effects until AFTER the war making it a temporary but useful tool for prolonging the inevitable.

Cities cost 92 LPs this turn and are worth 23 LPs when built.
Trade Centers cost 51 LPs this turn.

Commentary

Spoiler :
Plague

The Plague has died out in Berbera but has spread to Iraf.

Bubbles

Targaryen, Somalia,

Euskaldunak, Kasanazi, Israel, Iraf, the Mauryan Dynasty are all now sitting on bubbles.

Recessions

The United Federation of Snapir, London, and Bering saw no trade growth so the bubble has popped. (-25% City LPs available for spending, -50% Countryside LP available for spending. Will last for this turn and the next turn.)

Bering's economic downturn is so severe, it has another two turns of recession slapped on. (This turn plus the next three turns).

Missing Orders

Magnive. Probably Omega and Hoplite too but I can't remember.

Rewards

1 free XP for Dot
2 free XPs for Prospo, Mech (though, try to get more RP in a single-post next time ;) )
3 free XPs for Red Spy, Celt, Mosher

The great emperor, Chandragupta Maurya, has died! In his place, his son, Bindusara Maurya, shall lead the Maurya Dynasty to greatness! We shall expand, north, into the borderlands, and also stake a claim into the sea! Our empire shall grow mighty and strong, and perhaps we may one day become strong.

However, Bindusara has many things to overcome. The Maurya dynasty sits on an economic bubble, which must be rectified. One of our great trading partners, Iraf, has succumbed to the plague, and we must take care that it does not spread to Panaji.

The great capitol of Panaji must continue to be built up to be rich and beautiful, and the countryside is poor. We must take care to invest in our future, to avoid disaster.

Also, in the south, the city of Ernakulam is beginning to emerge, as people begin to need a center of trade for the south Maurya dynasty.

Intentional. I kinda need more details than "trade agreement" (which is why I didn't see it the first time).

Could you please put player names in the stats from now on?

Yes, must remember to do that.

I propose Moderate trade between Opalia and Sizilia and Dragonstone and King's Landing.

Do i still haz that research agreement with them?

Offer minor trade with the Targaryen Empire's Red Sea city

I'm a little confused as to how trade growth works. Does it require LP's or just two consenting governments?

I'm a little confused as to how trade growth works. Does it require LP's or just two consenting governments?

It basically requires two governments consenting to grow the trade route to a moderate or major OR for a non-trade center city to increase it's LPs enough. Look at the Eastern Mediterranean-Indian cultures for examples. ;)

Also, since I'm just now realizing that we're going to get to the point where there are thousands upon thousands of LPs circulating, I'm reforming the combat rules only slightly so that I don't do an individual roll for each combat round (like I did in RIOT). This means an extra twelve hours won't be slapped onto how long it takes to update.
----------

Basically, say that an attacker is using 10 LPs to attack a territory defended with 5 LPs. Defenders get a 20% defensive bonus (meaning the 5 LPs becomes 6 for combat purposes). I add up the 6 and 10 (equaling 16) and do a 1-16 RNG roll. 1-10, Attacker wins. 11-16, Defender Wins.

So, cities give a 20% defensive bonus, defending 20%, each epoch above your opponent 20%, amphibious landing is a 20% penalty, etc.

There are no defensive bonuses at seat though. Just technology bonuses.

When I go and calculate how many LPs are lost (if any), it'll simply be how far away the RNG number is from the opponent's number zone. So, say that I roll a 15 (Defender Wins), the Attacker (if he was using Countryside LPs) loses 5 LPs.

In other words, only two RNG rolls for a single battle.

As opposed to the +500 rolls I did for a large mid-game battle RIOT.

Well, in case you're wondering where you stand now compared to where you started, here's a chart showing the Total LP of each player since the beginning.

During this timeperiod, t the last King of Mozambique died of natural causes in his sleep. In this vacuum of power, the Grand Armed Forces Chieftain of the Mozambique, a man named Yayoi stepped up and took over the throne with his military. Though Mozambique, at the time, was the smallest of the Three Great Kingdoms of Angola, it boasted a larger military than the Horn. Swooping into the Horn settlements, it was quickly annexed by the disciplined Mozambiqian warriors. The Luanda Kingdom, facing incursions from northern tribes in its northernmost provinces, quickly surrendered after only one major battle, where seventy warriors on each side were killed in the fighting.
The newly-crowned Grand Chieftain Yayoi took his bloated army, putting it to use, conquering much of the wild, untamed areas further up the coast of Mozambique. Though the local tribes in the area were numerous, Yayoi's skilled, discplined, and trained warriors absorbed every tribe in the area while only suffering a total of ninety-four total casualties throughout the campaign. Ships were prepared at Quelimane and other local villages, and the handful of scattered tribes on the mysterious and wonderful island of Madagascar were also put down. Many people in Angola called Madagascar a "playground of the Gods," because of all of its wonderful and unique fauna. He was celebrated as one of the best Angolan rulers, and under him, the Three Great Kingdoms were abolished and the country was reformed as the Angolan Empire.

Since this is an IOT and not a NES, there should be some kind of victory condition that adds a definitive end. So, here it is.

World Domination
-Control every territory.
-Every. Single. One.

This isn't an alliance victory either! After all, if two people conquer the world, there's still plenty of room for a gigantic world conflagration, correct?

*looks at the map*

And by the looks of it, the map won't even fill up until the Renaissance. :)

Transcendence

-Reach Synthetic Age (last tech era)
-Finish Transcendence Program

When you start the Transcendence Program, you choose a city and that is wear the program will be. I suggest you make the program a secret....

I just realized that as long as I moderately increase the value of my cities, trade income goes up, and since I'm currently toting the most money in the game, I doubt that will ever happen.

/tempting fate

This is the longest IOT I've ever ran...or even seen that hasn't had a war within the first six updates. In my most successful IOT, RIOT, there had been already near a million soldiers dead fighting in the Middle East.

I blame Dommy for obvious reasons, as well as everyone but Mad Man for being idiotic jerks. (Dommy just fits under jerk for that one. Of course, due to his actions, he was eventually conquered, so I guess he'd fall under idiotic too... That whole game was a derp fest for the players.)

I propose Moderate trade between Opalia and Sizilia and Dragonstone and King's Landing.

Do i still haz that research agreement with them?

If we don't have minor, I suggest we go through a turn of that before we open up a moderate. If we already have minor trade, then agreed.

And yes. I put 26 into it last turn. You had 25, so I suggest Israel puts in 33 this turn, and we both put in 8.

Offer minor trade with the Targaryen Empire's Red Sea city

Accepted.
