Sons of Mars II

This. Seriously Spain, cut it out. You're across the damn ocean and we haven't even reached Roman Tech.

Nah, who cares about that, forget that its at least 2,000 years before present right now! (I'm sure its more than that, but its irrelevant to my point.) Forget logic! We have INTERDIMENSIONAL PORTALS! We don't even need a "Casus beli" or any crap like that to intervene*

Seriously though, goodjob Sonereal. Should we make an unspoken agreement to just pretend like Mathalamus doesn't exist until he actually learns how to play IOT?

*Yes, I know I attacked Yucatan without Casus beli, but:

A: I am a warlike nation, Math isn't, at least inherently. Floridian Nationalists would kinda have to be warlike, wouldn't they?

B: I ACTUALLY fought the war. Mathalamus is just going to cower behind his money and refuse to fight. Now, I'm not saying one cannot ever use money to manipulate the outcome of the war, that would be pointless and counter-initiative to the game. However, using money as a coward's shield every time while refusing to fight and playing the victim card is really annoying and contrary to how the game is supposed to work. Perhaps this is why early IOTs had no money, fight or stay out of it:p

C: I attacked an NPC, who doesn't really care about the game, so I'm not really angering anyone. A nation across the world getting involved because I attacked an NPC is ridiculous. I know the counter-argument (That its roleplay so it doesn't matter, and if Math were GENUINELY playing a "Hero Nation" who sticks up for the little guy, I'd accept it, but he isn't being a hero or protector, he obviously just wants to get at me.

Now, I know what's probably going to happen. Mathalamus is going to apologize for being a jerk to keep in the game. Well, I'm sorry, this is the internet, I don't have to play nice. Heck, I won't even read the apology. Mathalamus is officially and forever on my ignore list. I'm pretending he doesn't exist.

The unfortunate thing is then he can just attack me and I can't retaliate. Well, great, I am getting tired of dealing with him anyway, I'd just leave.

I'm seriously thinking about leaving IOT, forever, because frankly, this is just ridiculous. Having fun is one thing. I'm an imperialist in most IOTs. but I play like an Imperialist. I frequently fight to my grisly death like an imperialist. And every now and then, even though it isn't necessarily "Required" to be a fun player, I be a non-imperialist.

I'm OK with someone being dumb for awhile, but this is simply ridiculous. IOT IV, yeah I was dumb, but I learned within one game (And my sincerest apologies to Thorvald for ruining it, the only thing in my defense is that that was quite literally my first IOT ever, and I had never even heard of the concept before that.)

But... Mathalamus has been in these games far longer than me...

I'm currently undecided if I should just refuse to play in any games with him, or simply invade him in every game I'm in. Either way, I think the top GMs need to get together and work towards a solution, the site moderators won't come in here (And I know from experience, you can even sometimes troll back in here, its FORUM GAMES!:p

Either way, I'm done dealing with him. Sorry for derailing the thread T-Fox, but this needed to be posted. I may shoot you a PM to further discuss the issue. Now, back to the game, if its even worthwhile at this point (HINT: For me it isn't since Mathalamus won't actually let me play, yet he expects me to let him play. Sorry, but no, won't happen.)

And Sonereal- Thanks for actually making sense. We don't have enough of that here:)

Actually Math is in the early mid-Renaissance going by that tech tree I posted wayyyyy back on Page 2. The most advanced states are about to enter the Imperial Age.

Ahem, Math, yes, just add 75 gold to what you have.

The game has only been going on for... like, 6 turns!

Also, even if Mathalamus technically could get involved, his only reason to do so is still to get at me and you know it.

I still remember the time when Sonereal threatened to send Zombies or some such during ridiculous situations like this. One of the reasons I love him as a GM. You (T-Fox) seem to have one big weakness, inability to control thread-derailers...

Olafic Republic accepts the trade agreement with Aiolos (Salt Empire).

Claims in very slightly lighter green than my colour.

All income towards Army. Olafic Republic offers Grand Atheist Malaya an alliance.

My bad. They're an NPC now - so the alliance offer will be extended to Centaurium instead.

:goodjob: President Olaf the Youngererererer is pleased.

domination is full of assumptions. i don't have anythign against the shadow controller, just the nation. im sorry he cannot differentiate between the two.

anyway, canada, maya, what will you provide if we declare war right now?

Of course, I ended up just doing a simple one turn kick....

That resulted in 20 million dead and the largest atomic war in history.

Damned if you do and damned if you don't I guess.

That must be why both of your nations clash in every IOT, even when it doesn't make sense in the context of the game's history. It wouldn't be so bad if you didn't fail so bad when it comes to geopolitical strategy. It made a little sense when you threatened me because you're in my neighborhood and you have ships in my neighborhood. But you trying to exert any influence in a region where you have absolutely no military or economic influence in it is silly. You have only one ship west of Gibraltar so you're either metagaming for the hell of it or being even more Imperialist than the Imperialist.

In which case, if you move any of your ships in the Mediterranean out of the Mediterranean, I will liberate the Basque region if you catch my drift.

Great.

I declare a full blockade on all Spanish ports. This is not a declaration of war, of course, but I am moving my ships west.

you'd need to declare war to get past my 9 navies. are you sure you want this?

Pretty sure I don't. I'm just moving my ships through on a merry trip to the New World. If you attack my ships, however, you are declaring war on me and I will defend myself with extreme fanaticism..

4 Albanian ships have blockaded the ports of Spain. Full on war is not declared, but it's likely hostilities will erupt.

Will Spain relatiate? It possesses 9 fleets in the region, with better training. Failure to retaliate will result in of 8 of 15 coastal provinces blockaded - a total loss of 27% of the state's income every turn.

Floridian War

Florida has a wealthy backer in the Salt Empire. But likewise, large sums of capital have been flooding Canada and the Maya. Given Florida's status of desiring to dominate North America and not even trying to hide it, it's no wonder outsiders are trying to crush them.

The Maya's backer will not disclose themselves, but Canada's will - the Kalmar Union. Its provinces in North America, it feels, will be threatened by a Greater Florida. It has beefed the Canadian forces accordingly!

As such, Canada is now at army 8, giving it a +1 advantage over the Floridians, while the Maya have Army 8 as well, with a +2 bonus (since it and Florida alike are militaristic).

9 units stand on each side on the Northern front. Bloodshed begins!

1 5
2 1 - Canada wins
3 2 - Canada wins
4 4 - Canada wins
4 2

One of the Floridian provinces uses up all 5 troops, destroying 1 enemy force.

5 4
5 1
2 1 - Canada wins
2 5

After that, Florida wins two battles with the Florida proper army, but loses 2.

The North front shifts little, but how about the Southern? 11 armies go against 7! Mayans get a +2 advantage.

In total, Florida wins one battle.

The counterattack is naturally brutal.

2 5
3 1

Florida kills one unit of Mayans.

In total, Florida is reduced to 18 armies, many territories falling with ease due to most of the army being on the offensive.

The Canadians now mount an assault.

1 1

While bloody, Canada reaches the Gulf and links up with the Mayan front. Now, it is on to Fort Myers!

3 armies are ordered to attack the Floridian capital and drive them from North America, but a heavy defense has been mounted.

4 1
2 3
3 3

It is a bit bloody too, but Ft. Myers falls.

Neither side has a fleet, but that is likely to change. Until then, the Floridians are stranded on Caribbean islands, which are a mixture of fortress and prison, while the North American Alliance is likewise, stuck on the continental Empire.

I call off my blockade.

I have better ideas.

Keep my ships at sea off the coasts. They are not blockading nor attacking. They're just there. :)

Liberia naturally declares war on Songhai, citing its belligerence in the form of a blockade. Historical tensions have finally erupted into all out conflict.

It raises 15 ships, and beefs its army up to level 7, which, ahead of Songhai's 5, is a GIGANTIC advantage.

Battles are between 1-10, given the fact Liberia's in Era 2. As you may notice, battles become harder to monopolise the more you tech up.

8 4
9 6

After 12 volleys, 11 Songhai ships are sunk, while the Liberians lose 1.

5 1

And that's that!

Two of Songhai's coastal provinces are, in a twist of sweet reversal, blockaded instead.

10 armies are raised with leftover gold. It's time for payback.

9 5
1 8
1 3

1 province - Liberian casualties 1, Songhai 2.

5 4

2 provinces - Liberian casualties 1, Songhai 3.

3 5

8 4

4 provinces - Liberian casualties 1, Songhai 5!

9 8
2 1

5 provinces - Liberian casualties 1, Songhai 7.

4 1

6 provinces - Lib casualties 1, Son 8.

7 9
5 3

7 provinces - Lib 1, Son 10.

10 5

1 5

9 provinces - Lib 1, Son 12.

6 10
3 2
8 8

11 provinces - Lib 1, Son 15.

5 9

2 2

13 provinces - Lib 1, Son 17.

Liberia has almost doubled in size, and Songhai has suffered disastrous results. What was supposed to coerce the Liberians into a more accomodating position has instead caused them to unleash their fury, and as such, they have usurped Songhai's position entirely.

The rebels are fierce patriots, and so, align with the government for the time being; as wretched as the monarchy is, it's at least Songhai. Historical basis: Chinese factions in the face of Japanese invasion / Greeks in face of Persian invasion

The rebels attack, but the Liberians have a +6 advantage on them.

2 7
5 3
10 10

...well. The rebels all die, and Songhai gets its territories back accordingly.

About my turnset orders: There has been an army moved from a central province of my empire (western India) to the province marked with a 4 (for 4 armies). Just clarifying that.

Also, what is the name of the NPC in India? Just 'India'?

Hyderabad.

Cheers. :)

It is a bit bloody too, but Ft. Myers falls.

Ft. Myers, the Holy City, will rise again!

How did they destroy it though? They don't even know where it is;)

Can people (Except Sonereal, he has a reason) stop quoting Mathalamus? I REALLY don't want to read his posts. I'm pretending he doesn't exist, and you guys make it hard.

@Sonereal- Either way, you dealt with the problem, and therefore you get kudos. In fact, thanks for doing so again, even if you aren't the GM.

And with that, since he's a total jerk and I want to get rid of him, the nation that gets rid of him will get my Caribbean Islands.

@The NAA- We don't care about the other stuff, but give us Florida back and there will be peace. We'll accept your precense in other lands for now, Florida is the only crucial part of the empire.
