Hiya guys. You might be interested to know that Soren popped into Apolyton today and gave up this little 'tidbit' of info:

you can mod in terrain-specific movement ("mountain" infantry) just by changing the xml...

Hope that info gives potentially modders (and game-players in general) reason for hope ;)!

That's pretty cool. I kind of expected that it was possible to do that, although I didn't know if it would be that easy.

If you want it to.... :)

Nice- and I wonder whether any of these will be prepackaged. One assumes that since they went to all the effort to build it, they will include a few samples of it pre-built.

Also, I wonder what other things will be done in Civ 4 as far unit controls go.

Congratulations searcheagle!

And hooray for more info.

Soren reappeared again in that same thread to answer THIS question:

Thanks for clarifying, however this was not the question. The question was, if I can add an option to the diplomatic/espionage menu about "funding the armed opposition in another country".

and Soren's reply?

yes, you can do that, but you'll have to wade into python for that...

It certainly does sound as though the modding tools are going to allow for a great deal of flexibility. I know its not really eye-popping new info, but just thought I should keep you guys 'in the loop' (and it is On Topic after all ;)!)

Hooray for even more new information! This really makes my day.

Well, if you can do all that cool stuff with Python, I'm sure a few ideas I have can work as well.

If we can do stuff like this with terrain and diplomacy so easily, this gives us hope that we might be able to change in/out the stuff we want (ie new names for religion, change the benefits for promotion), maybe to the point where we have a "civ4 python/XML additon" section on the main page, with donations by today's modders? :)

Hopefully we can also mod in a new economic system as well. Good new all around, however.

Sorry, I seem to be kind of dumb here, but what exactly "funding the armed opposition in another country" means?

Funding=giving money

to the armed = to people with weapons

opposition = who hate the government

in another country

Well if you find wading into python is easy, then civil wars might be a little bit harder.

Excellent!
After so many great news I predict Civ4: creation & customization forum being eventually more popular than this one! Civ3 is already almost there...

Civ4: modders paradise :)

That means my own people can grab weapons and fight against me? (oh lord please say yes)

I wish the current Civ3 modders would realize this. :(
