SP6 - Deity Training

Who wouldn't want sycophants? :p

Seriously, I *knew* I shouldn't have typed that. But next month I probably get to sink back into obscurity, so all's well. :D Thank you for the compliment. Seriously, though, it is amazing how much better you play when you're confident with a level than when you're not - all other issues aside.

As for the wars, I'd be in favor of continuing the push on Babylon (with concomittant annihilation of the French expeditionary forces) until the French finally cave -- it has got to be soon, by the way. They've lost six cities to us (even if not razed) and probably 20 units, and they lost Rouen (razed) and a bunch of units to the Ottomans. We've lost maybe one or two tanks to them. So as long as we stay at war, they'll be doomed, and it shouldn't affect us much. Babylon shouldn't do much damage on the counterattack, even with tanks, if we're defending with mech inf. (Their oil is by Akkad, by the way, a fair distance.)

After that ... well, Borealis is a perfectly capable warmonger. :)

Renata

Gee if France has lost that many cities than surely their democracy has to collapse soon!

We should remember though, that we don't have to do too much conquering with tanks. I'd be perfectly happy to try to cruise for modern armors soon. It'd be preferable if we could leave all the other civs in a huge brawl though.

You expect all the attention to go away by next month Renata? Ahhh no, I think that the Chinese cliche about being careful for what you wish will be shown to be true :) We already have legions of sycophant stalkers after you!

@Sirp,
Borealis posted in the 'out of pocket' thread which is sticky at the top of this forum.
She has been having Internet access problems and basically asked for skip till Friday in all her SG's.

Ahhh ok...I'm not used to checking that thread yet :)

That means Stormrider is up.

This shouldn't have more than thirty turns left. Let's finish it off so you guys can claim your first Deity wins. :)

-Sirp.

Would be agreeable to me. :D

Renata

I got it.

Edit:

I have not played in a few weeks, but I have been following the thread.

I agree that Japan and Ottomans are our next target, but we still have 13 or so turns of agreements with Jap/Ott.

What I do not recall from reading the thread is how our rep is doing. Or, do we really not care at this point as we are about to engae in global whoop-@ss.

Go get 'em Stormrider!

I don't think we care. If you can get the necessary luxes to keep us happy on the first few turns of war (I know the Ottoman gems are exposed at Ankara; not sure about the Japanese spices), then it shouldn't much matter. We would also be able to buy dyes from Babylon, most likely, if we make peace with them before the other two civs do likewise.

And I'm not sure we'd even get a rep hit vs the Ottomans, anyway, since I paid straight cash for their gems. Does anyone know how that would work? I did trade ivory as well as cash to the Japanese, iirc.

One additional advantage to declaring war on the Ottomans right away would be to remove their oil source from them before they can build too many tanks (Japanese can still sell oil to them, though.) Of course, with us defending with mech inf, it won't much matter.

Anyway, will let others chime in with their opinions as well.

Renata

Well our reputation is pretty thoroughly trashed already, so I don't think it'd make much difference. But, I don't see any reason to be dishonorable just for the sake of it.

@Renata: if you paid up front and they are giving us something on-going, we won't get a rep-hit for attacking them.

We don't care much about the AIs having tanks. We *do* care about them having mech infantry.

Don't worry if you don't get to do too much conbat on your turn, Stormrider. You might want to snag us some key cities and resources, but I will be more than happy if you simply concentrate on getting us The Internet, and then as close as possible to modern armors, with lots of tanks to be upgraded. Then I'll concentrate on getting together a huge military of modern armors and set up Matt and Renata to finish the game with a domination win.

-Sirp.

Did you get to play, Stormrider?

Renata

Modern warfare is time consuming enough as it is, so I didn't keep a detailed turn log. The basic summary is, I threw tanks at our enemies. I made some careless mistakes, as I usually do in modern wars.

Our list of opponents:

Germany (DEAD)
Babylon (DEAD)
Iroquois
France (DEAD)
Turkey
Japan

The Game

I suggest that Matt just wipes out the Iroquois with tanks, then zooms along to modern armor, and sets Renata up to finish the game. It might be easier just to go for a conquest victory.

-Sirp.

Oh yeah btw, I sincerely apologize for the state the game is left in, Matt. It's in the middle of a turn, and troops are all over the place. Try to make sure all our cities are protected :)

-Sirp.

Not a problem. I'll get to this within the next 24 hours.

:D You can't have made too many mistakes - doubt I could've waded through all of Babylon's (and France's!) high-culture cities in just 10 turns with 2-move units.

Anyway .. cool! Go get 'em, Matt!

Oh believe me, I made mistakes :)

Several times, I under-defended cities, letting them be captured by our enemies. One of the cities that Japan has in that region used to be ours, but the French captured it from us, and then the Japanese from the French.

I didn't defend a settler properly, and it got captured, and a couple of times I lost some huge stacks of artillery, but luckily the AI was too dumb to disband them, and I recaptured them.

Ten turns is a real long time in the modern age, and alot can be achieved.

Of course, if we had modern armors going, the Iroquois would be gone too now, and we'd probably be ripping into the Ottomans.

Oh and yeah, France took *forever* to get out of Democracy. I investigated one of their cities, and they only had three luxuries. Over half their citizens were entertainers! They were probably less productive in Democracy than they would be in communism!

They eventually did revolt, but I don't think I got the 'opportunity' to see what their choice of new government would be ;)

ROFL.

Renata

Short report.

I only took 6 turns. Just don't have time for more right now and I don't want to hold the game up.
Iro's are down to 3 cities.
We have Sun's and Magellan's.
I was razing almost everything. Conquest will be easier.
We have all 8 luxs natively now.

Sorry for the shape of the game Renata. What Sirp said to me.....Ditto.
I tried to leave at least one unit active in every stack.

One more note, I think Osman and maybe Toku are about 1, maybe 2 turns from sneak attacking us. Osman is going to do it for sure.

My thoughts are finish Hiawa. 2 turns probably, and consolidate.
There is an Ottoman city which is blocking our movement from one side of the land mass to the other. It needs to be target #1, but you will see that right off.
I don't think we hae any deals going. Maybe an embargo with Toku.

Good Luck.

Got it. Already noticed the Ottoman blocking city issue on Sirp's map. Will probably play tomorrow night.

Do we have modern armor yet?
