Space-1: War While Waiting

Well done taking Babylon, Space. :goodjob:

Nicomedia and Artaxata (which rioted on you) needed garrisons of more than one to stay out of disorder. I should either have pointed that out or given them entertainers rather than taxmen.

I meant to post a got it last night.

I have the save and will play this evening.

It looks like we are going to eliminate Babylon soon so we should keep cities I think.

Space, A good turn :)

One statement I found curoius - you didn't raze Babylon because we had higher culture? Does that mean you would have razed it if Babylon had high culture (my guess is you would have kept it)? I wouldn't have razed babylon even if they had 10x our culture. It has sistine and Babylon will soon be dead. Even in this case [Edit: the 10x culture case] the flip chance over the next 5 turns is probably not over 1/3, and even if it does flip, you can just park a unit outside to take it back. I tend to be on the "keep all cities" end of the razing spectrum especially when I am eliminating a civ.

I am thinking it might be worth attacking the rest of Babylon quickly, even if it means a bit more loss on units (i.e. lets not wait for bombardment on all the rest of Babylon). We want to kill all we can before the age of infantry, so I think a few lost Cav are worth the speed. I am thinking Madbax can probably clean off the southern tip of or continent completely and start setting up for our next targets. We should also start the "other continent pillage" if we can.

NP had been razing the cities of Babylon the turn before and for the most part a human can indeed place cities more effectively than the AI. Also we don't have to worry about reputation, so that's why razing was an option even with the wonders. In this case there were obviously more compelling reasons to keep it than to raze it.

Although there were no losses the forces are not in good shape and need to heal, preferably in a city. Since this is our major attacking force, losing it would be a biggie!

Oh definitely heal first. I agree with that. :)

I just mean don't wait on every town for the cannons to trundle up to them and knock it to size 6.

I don't think we would lose are full force. Even half our "losses" would be retreats. Besides Madbax specializes in daring assaults and gets away with it too :D

Madbax,
One thing I noticed about the preturn. You can bombard one of the ironclads near our spanish blockade with some of the unused cannon. Might be nice to send that ironclad home.

1500AD: Pre-turn. Nothing to do. I move a few boats ready to go after the Ottomans.I also rush a couple of ironclads and a galleon.

IBT:
The Spanish attack our Cav army and nearly defeat it. We lose a Legionary from the same stack. Think about how close that was.
Spanish drop off a conquistadore near Babylon.

1505AD:
Takeover the fortress just past the spanish choke point.
Move 15 Cavalry with no arty support in range of Nineveh.
Kill the conquistadore
Start moveing the armies to their place of embarkment (Virconium)
I also rail a couple of mountains believe it or not intentionally.
Move a settler to fill a void.

IBT:
Lose 2 cavalry to Spanish cavalry, killing a cavalry and a rifle in return.
The Spanish land a rifle and 3 cavalry at Babylon. Not bad guys

1510AD:
Bombard the Spanish stack and take them out completely without loss.
Found Agrippina

Nineveh. I'm a bit nervous about this.
Asterisked cav vs vet rifle wins

vet cav vs reg rifle wins
vet cav vs conscript rifle wins taking city.
I opt to starve using taxmen.

A rifle protecting a settler is hampering progress south. So I opt to take it out.

IBT:
Only lost a single cav IBT this turn. I must be improving :smoke:
I think I've decided to use the leader for TOE, take AT and Electronics as usual, research industrialisation and attempt to get a leader for Hoover later. The palace pre-build will be a factory I hope.

1515AD:

Not pretty.

Found Cyrene

Finally managed to bombard the Spanish fortress. Shouldn't leak cav anymore now.

IBT:
Lose 1 rifle and 1 cav in choke. Sheesh this is a bad tactic. I should just have built a city on the hill. Sorry guys.

1520AD:
Found Tyrus
Hurried TOE but couldn't do the fancy switch thing as I woke the leader during the previous turn.

I'm having a nightmare turn. I've just got to the point of loading the armies onto boats only to find they are all loaded with 4 units, so we can't transport them.

IBT:
Ottomans request audience
Naval bombardment is particularly bad this round. 4 tiles successfully destroyed. The coal supply route to the south is cut. Can't believe there was only one road. Still, I'll road an inland source of coal for safety.

1525AD:
Found Verona on Choke as I should have done 3 turns ago instead of obsessing about the fortress.

Eridu.
vet cav vs vet rifle dies
Asterisked cav vs vet rifle dies

Elite cav vs vet rifle wins

The Babylonians are dead.
Brundisium switched to Hoover since I singularly failed to generate a leader.

So thats it.
I got the right armies to virconium in the end. We just need to add a few loose units to add to them when they get to the other side.

There are some factory pre-builds going on in the following cities. Rome, Neapolis, Allegheny and Jerusalem. A lot of the core is building units that will complete after Industrialisation is learned. It's up to the next player how many get switched to factory. If it were me I'd change all the cities making more than 10 uncorrupted shields per turn (except hoover city).

I didn't do it myself but I should have done. Handyaugusta needs a team of workers to mine the mountains and rail its tiles. At the moment it is just silly food rich. I was just in a railing groove on my turn and didn't find the time.

I'd like to build some coastal fortresses. They have zero upkeep and are only 40 shields. They'll redline most of the shipping in our waters if we build enough.

There is a barb camp South of Crows return, and a settler headed to found a city there.

I've been playing quite well lately. I'm sorry I chose this game to revert to type.

Greebley: As you will no doubt have noticed. I don't always get away with it. Just most of the time. :)

I've got some RL stuff to do so if you don't mind I won't post a screenshot.

Here is the >>save<<

Got it

Play tomorrow.

Sounds like the Babs gave you a touch of indegestion MB :D :goodjob:

Ted

Good work finishing off the Babylonians, MB.

I think we can afford to send off one cavalry-based pillaging force rather than waiting another ten turns or so for explorers. Our first convoy to the Iznik area should probably consist of the (rifleman) Army of Claudius, an extra rifleman to join the army once it's landed, and six cavalry units. That may seem like a lot of cav, but we'll probably be double-pillaging railed tiles for the most part.

MB: when your indegestion is over, you will see we're in good shape thanks to your valiant turns. ;)

Ted (already knows): you're UP

If we get a leader I suggest building Suffrage, I don't think they will be able to cascade to Hoover yet. Think of all those shields going down the drain... :D

Ted

Notes
I had to use most of the Workers in the South but once this tile is railed they can start to return to our core cities and replace all that irrigation.
SP1-1550AD-Rails.jpg

Verona's link to the empire will be safe (for a while) once these rail links are completed.

The Temple in Verona needs rushing (flip & border expansion - it's only etiquette that prevented me doing it on my last turn.

Our invasion fleet is about halfway across and has some extra Cav to speed up pillaging.

Factories are under way in most cities @ 10spt or better (after waste).

I built Universal Suffrage in Oil Springs to better protect the Dyes. Coastal bombardment was particularly bad there and Birka (for whatever reason, perhaps Oil?).

We need more Workers although it should get better with Replaceable Parts (3 turns). Most 1 spt towns are building more.

I sent some loose Cav South to join our pillaging Armies.

The save is > here <

Ted

LOL, we are probably the first people to rush Universal Sufferage in an AW, it being only useful for its culture bonus.

It looks like we continue to make good progress. The AW invasion of the other continent will be new for me. It will be interesting for me to see how it works out.
