SP1-1770AD

Pre-flight checks... OK

It's good to see that all our opponents have dropped back into Communism. Must mean that they are hurting :)

It looks as if I'll concentrate my attacks on Edrine (Newton's), Herakleia, Avaris & Corinth. Perhaps sending out pillaging forces once Corinth and Edrine are dealt with. We seem to be closing the culture gap at last

IBT
The Egyptians send a stack of Inf our way and the gaps I left in our defenses attracts a few flies :)
Veii Inf - Battleship
Everywhere else starts Tanks

2 - 1774AD
SP1-1774AD-corridors.jpg

That's a stack of 12 Egyptian Inf! and the Ottoman are sending Sipahi from the North and East along with the occasional Inf
Bombard Edrine - destroying Stock, Police, 3 pop, Barracks, Temple, Market - now pop 12
Bombard Egyptian Inf SoD - all injured, most now 2/4
Use 2 Elite Cavs to kill 2 Egyptian Cavs

Egypt & Ottoman have Electronics

More Egyptian Inf show up

3 - 1776AD
Sorry, lost my notes for this turn as my computer crashed inter-turn.
Basically we captured Herakleia & killed some enemy units :)
I think we had 4 or 5 Elite Cav vistories

IBT
A long session of Naval bombardment - not much damage
Egypt and Ottoman land a few units on the mainland

4 - 1778AD
Kill invaders getting 1 elite Tank in the process.
New Antium founded

IBT
Lots of Naval bombardment at Herakleia - the Rubber seems to be the main target

5 - 1780AD
Bombard Edrine & Avaris down to pop 1
Avaris captured for no losses
Edrine captured for no losses

Our (rather larger) Foothold

North

SP1-1780AD-South.jpg

South

Notes
None of our opponents have Mass Production yet so Tanks still have a reasonable window of opportunity.

I captured Edrine, Herakleia & Avaris. If the next player wants to abandon & resettle there are sufficient Settlers in Aydin.

I have a Pillaging Cav Army (with a couple of Cav outriders) doing the business on Istanbul.

I think cutting off Istanbul then working our way round the coastal cities - starting with Kafa and then diverting to snap up Uskudar (Ivory) - is our fastest way to dispose of the Ottoman while continuing to pillage Istanbul.

The Southern peninsula is now ours so a second front could be opened up to the Southeast, attacking Greece as far as Athens then swinging South to Thebes.

I've left all the Workers fortified around Pompeii (still with movement) so if the next player spots an opportunity they're easy to find.

All our holdings on the enemy continent are connected by rail so getting Tanks (as they arrive) to the front lines should be easier now.

In hindsight we should have researched Flight first as that would have allowed us to build Airports or Airfields and get re-inforcements to the war zone sooner.

The save is > here <

Ted

We need 230 more tiles & 97 more pop as at 1780AD.

Ted

Pre-turn
Everything fine. I just give a look around to see where our units are.
It looks like we can spare an Infantry Army for a tentative pillaging raid in Greek territory -let's see how it works, I am starting to like pillaging... :devil2:

Move a few fortified units, and hit Enter then.

IT
The usual bombardment.
Sipahis kill two stray cavalries of ours.
Babylon: Settler -
Niagara Falls, Allegheny, Stockholm, Ravenna, Handyaugusta: Tank - Tank
Mediolanum, Spacium, Lauriacum, Hippo Regius: Worker - Marketplace
Pisae: Bank - Battleship

Our people love us so much that they improve our Palace with some nice additions from all over the world...

Turn 1 - 1782 AD
Rush Commercial Dock in Antium
Rush Barracks in Iznik, Arretium and Ephesus
Rush Temple in New Rome

Start bombardment of Kafa
The Cavalry army pillages the countryside around Istanbul
Skirmishes along the Ottoman-Greek border, bombarded and killed a few enemy units without losses.

Do you mind it so much if I automate some workers in our home continent? :D

IT
Ops. I had misplaced a Tank. It falls having valiantly killed two Sipahi attackers.
Rome, Neapolis, Pompeii, Brundisium, Lutetia, Palmyra, Seleucia: Tank - Tank
Veii: Battleship - Battleship
Iznik: Barracks - Temple
Antium: Commercial Dock - Battleship
Curia: Worker - Marketplace
Birka: Artillery - Destroyer
Viroconium: Tank - Battleship
Ephesus: Barracks - Temple
Augustadorum: Library - Harbour
Arretium: Barracks - Temple
New Rome: Temple - Worker
Edrine defects to the Ottomans, taking away three Elite Cavs and three Infantries.

Turn 2 - 1784 AD
Edrine is recaptured and razed. Sorry for Newton's...
Corinth is captured and kept -just because of Magellan's Voyage.

Work on Kafa and Istanbul continues

I manage to loose a Destroyer against an Ironclad off Birka

IT
The Greek attack Corinth en masse, loosing really a lot of cavalries. We loose an Infantry Army and two Tanks though...
Niagara Falls, Tarentum, Cumae, Allegheny, Artaxata, Molde, Handyaugusta: Tank - Tank
Corfinium, Gordion: Worker - Harbour
Stavanger: Worker - Marketplace
Londinium: Aqueduct - Marketplace
Brundisium: Courthouse - Aqueduct
Teurnia: Worker - Aqueduct

Turn 3 - 1786 AD
Resistance in Corinth ends. Rush Temple.
Reinforcements arrive to Corinth: artillery + Tanks outside Corinth start butchering the invading troops.

Rush Temple in Iznik

Settler is in position to replace Edrine. Tanks are going there, while bombardments and pillaging continue in Ottoman lands.

IT
Another wave of attacks on Corinth.
Radio is discovered. Flight due in 8 turns at 60% science (+103 gpt, would be 7 turns and -19 gpt at 70%).
Rome, Pompeii, Stockholm, Brundisium, Palmyra: Tank - Tank
Bergen: Settler - Marketplace
Iznik: Temple - Civil Defense (Yuk! Never done this!)
Corinth: Temple - Barracks
Oil Springs: Courthouse - Aqueduct
Byzantium: University - Battleship
Nicopolis: Library - Harbour

Turn 4 - 1788 AD
New Cumae is founded on the site of old Edrine. Barracks are ordered.

Kafa is conquered and razed (no losses). A number of Tanks is sent North to raze and burn more Ottoman cities.

IT
Nicomedia, Niagara Falls, Allegheny, Neapolis, Artaxata, Ravenna, Lutetia, Handyaugusta: Tank - Tank
Hispalis: Tank - Battleship
Toledo: Worker - Marketplace
Santiago: Worker - Harbour
Vitoria: Harbour - Destroyer
Lugdunum: Courthouse - Tank

Turn 5 - 1790 AD
A Battleship and a Destroyer manage to sink an Egyptian Ironclad + Galleon...
Rush Barracks in Corinth.

The Greek pillaging stack is formed on the hill south of Corinth.

That's it. Istanbul can be disconnected from the rest of the Ottoman cities in a couple of turns -but they are already sending groups of only two-three Sipahis.

The main wave of attacks from Greece and Egypt on Corinth seems to have passed a couple of turns after it was taken. They are still coming, but we managed to cut our way to the hill south of the city.
I was curious to see if we can roam their country pillaging at our leisure as much as the Cavalry army is doing around Istanbul. Athens is not far away...

Here it comes

There was a discussion in another thread, MB4 I think, about the A/D cutoff (where armies become targets).

Looking at SP1 I'm quite surprised that Sipahi haven't attacked our Cav army as the A/D ratio is 8:3 or expressed as a differential 5.

Ted
p.s. Good work on Corinth Karasu. I couldn't quite get there in my turn :)

Ted, they *do* attack. Here's the quote from a while ago:

I forgot the Ottomans have an attack 8 unit. I discovered that the computer WILL attack a cavalry army with four units in it with an attack 8 unit. We survived the Ottoman attack (our army had 1hp), but then the Egyptians finished it off. I will have to make sure the knight army remains under the rifle army at all times.
Total losses:
1 Cav army, about 3-4 Cavalry.
The other side lost a good bit in the exchange.

So be aware of that, guys.

Sorry Space I phrased it badly :(

I was aware of Sipahi attacking a Cav army in the past. That's why I'm quite surprised that Sipahi haven't attacked our Cav army that's currently pillaging Istanbul :)

Ted

They have only been coming to New Cumae for the last few turns, and only with 3-4 Sipahis. They may be about to crumble...

Indeed, it was surpising to see some of those Sipahi drive next to our pillaging army without even noticing it!

On the other hand, the counter-attack on Corinth was really brutal... but a lot of fun! They seemed really determined to get Magellan back :p

Ted

At an even more unvaforable ratio than Cav agaisnt Cav-army the AI (at least in PTW) attacked Knight armies (3 elite) with vet-Knights (for example in GM-2) when they have no softer targets in range.

Btw, :goodjob: for an AW game without iron in the first stage of the game, congrats to all.
