Space Elevator successes

Really think the elevator wold be used for people to ride it to space too? cuz from my understanding that wouldnt be reasonable and they are talking about sending up materials.

not directed at any one of you but it seems people in real life think that..

Don't see any reason why it would be infeasible...

Well I might be totally off here, but my impression was that while the thing has a mass, it's completely self-supported by design, and as such it should be pretty easy to move.

I don't think so, but I might be wrong. The weight issue is of greatest importance to the parts that would be inside the atmosphere, but I imagine it would effect all of it out to the halfway point (about 33,000 miles up), because the other half's weight balances the first half's, in addition to the benefits of being in geosynchronous orbit.

Nobody's mentioned today's xkcd yet?

Y'all are slipping...

:rotfl: Carlos Mencia is the antithesis of funny.

I would be a long trip.

Well it could presumably stop before it gets to the end of the tether. I think the greater issue is that, it being so expensive (and so few, I would imagine), we would have much better things to ship than people on them.

You've never played Transport Tycoon then :p

I don't need to go the whole way up. I just want the best base jump EVER.

And I'd think that it'd be cheaper than paying for rockets.

Hey I'm up for some Hog Soccer. Though I guess that was only in Halo 1. :(
I was thinking more the shattered remains of the MAC platform and its connecting space elevator in the background. :p

The place where the space elevator will be is irrelevant, because it will become American territory.

You know what the coolest thing about space elevators would be?

Space Elevator Music!

I bet it would be all hardcore electronica stuff, but in a friggin' awesome totally jamming sense not like the need to take X to appreciate sense.

If the Space Elevator is supersonic, its music can only be broken.
