Which leaders do you want for the Spanish civilization?

1) Isabella (or Isabel la Católica in Spanish) is the most famous, but she just ruled in Castille.
2) Ferdinand (or Fernando el Católico) was the first ruler in Spain considered as King of Spain by the other European rulers, and he ruled in Castille, Aragon and Navarre.
3) Charles I (or Carlos I) was the most powerful ruler in his time, but the problem is that he ruled in Germany too.
4) Philip II (or Felipe II) was the first King of all Spain because, in his time, Portugal was considered a Spanish kingdom and used the non-official title of "King of the Spains".
5) Philip V (or Felipe V) was the first one who used the title of "King of Spain".
6) Charles III (or Carlos III) used politics of Enlightenment to develop Spain in economy, culture, and science. Besides, he helped Washington in the War of Independence.
7) Azaña was the main Prime Minister of the II Spanish Republic, time of social and culture evolution.
8) Franco was a dictator who ruled during 30 years and was friend of Hitler, although later he was friend of Eishenhower.
9) Felipe González was the main Prime Minister of the nowadays Spanish democracy.
10) Liuvigild, Reccared, or another Visigoth King of Spain. During 6th-8th centuries, the Visigoths ruled in Spain with the capital in Toledo. In the time of Liuvigild and Reccared, Spain was the most developed and powerful territory in Western Europe.

I don't include Arab leaders because they weren't considered by themselves as Spanish. Besides, I don't include Cordobese emirs, Leonese kings, Castillian kings, Aragonese kings, and Portuguese kings (the Portuguese were considered as Spanish by themselves and their neighbours) because they didn't rule in all the Spanish territory.

Charles V or Phillip II as the first leader with Franco or another as the second.

Spain has had an enormous impact on world history and the fact that France and England had three leaders in Civ IV while Spain only had Isabella is unacceptable.

Could Isabel and Fernando appear together? I think it's a good idea because Colombus was received by both together. :king: :king:

Felipe González!? Odd touch of humor there!

About this, Isabel and Ferdinand were usually painted together in portraits of their time as the next one in Wikipedia:

And, even, in the throne rooms there were two throne of the same size as the next one of the Citadel of Segovia:

I went for Izzy (religious Zelotishness is always fun and she's a familiar face), and both Kings Philip (both were known as Kings of Spain, and were pretty gosh darn notable)

Rodrigo el Cid!!!!

Not a king, but neither some of the other leaders of civ. He was a spanish fighter who even won a battle after dead!

And mostly because my real name is Rodrigo and it would be cool :P

Philip V and Charles III are too unrecognizable by mainstream people. Philip II is generally considered to have been a poor ruler, and Charles I adds a complication because he was also Kaiser of the Habsburg lands and the Holy Roman Empire. Franco still has a sore spot in modern Spaniard's hearts (though so does Stalin and Mao, I suppose).

So I figure it's likely going to be Isabella.

For reasons that a lot of people hate, I voted Isabella. A lot of women like to have female leaders available and I don't think about gender when I'm playing. Although it's true that she wasn't queen of Spain alone or Spain in the modern sense, she did a lot to help bring about modern Spain. And to the world at large, she is one of the most recognizable. I think that's the main reason she keeps showing up.

I also voted Visigothic for personal reasons. Spain has such a rich and varied cultural history that it'd be nice to get outside the period after the reconquest when they eliminated the Moors.

I think Isabella and Ferdinand should be a double leader.

I like that idea! I'm not sure how it would all work out, but that is the truth historically. They did function like a double leader.

I'm not sure about the Visigoths being a separate civilization. They migrated across the Roman Empire to get to Spain IIRC, but have to start somewhere. However, I admit that Iberia has had a lot of civilizations leading up to modern Spain and Portugal. Celts, Carthage, Rome, Visigoths, Moors. If the Visigoths are separate, what about Asoka as leader of India?
