Starting from far away. We know what:
- There will be DLC with 2 civs coming first.
- There will be "Cradle of Civilization" map pack, containing Americas, Asia and Mediterranean.

And now my assumptions come:

1. I doubt that's just maps - nobody would buy them. I suggest them to be scenarios instead.

2. Each scenario needs at least 3 playable civs to be interesting, other forces could be filled with city-states.

3. I doubt new civilizations will be created for these scenarios specially. That's rather huge work, so I suggest they'll reuse existing ones.

4. Asia (China, India, Siam) and Mediterranean (Egypt, Babylon, Persia, Greece, Rome) are quite filled, but Americas (Aztec only, since it's from Peru to Mexico, so Iroquois are out) aren't.

So my bet is - the first DLC with 2 civs will be "Mesoamerica", containing Mayas and Incas.

What do you think?

P.S. I know what existing leader animations could be reused for different civs, but I see no one to play Maya and Inca role, providing Monty is in use.

I havent heard that there will be a map pack except the ones that comes with different pre-orders. Do you got a link to the confirmation of a DLC map pack?

I expect Spain and the Dutch. Well either the Dutch or the Inca. But im pretty sure Spain will be in there.

The same question - why do you think so?

Because alot of people want Spain. They were a jaor factor in world history and there is high demand for Spain. Same with the Dutch.

Why do you think so?
Because:
a) Mongols and Inca are arguably the most important civs not yet included
b) They would fit nicely with Asia and America map-packs
c) They come from geographic areas that are under-represented with the current 19.

Spain is another possibility, but doesn't really fit b) and c).
Dutch would be well down the list of possible candidates.

True. The Dutch were more of a hope of mine :)

But I agree with the Inca being included. But I do believe Spain will be either one of the first two DLC, or pretty close to the first two.

Spanish are at the top of my list. Mongols and Inca would be cool. I just hope its not some obscure civs, but getting them for "free", I dont really care who it is either way. I like surprises too!

I think that the first 2 civs will be Spain and Inca because they are really important civilizations which have been left out, and it gives Firaxis the chance to make a scenario featuring both.
Portugal would be also a good choice considering that Firaxis could make a Mediterranean DLC or a colonial powers scenario featuring Iberian civilizations.

About Mongols i have the feeling there will be in the future a DLC containing only them, considered that it is one of the 18 civilizations which should be never left out; so a 2 civs DLC doesn't seem appropriate for them. Also Mongol only DLC would sell more than any other DLC featuring other civs.

Netherlands seems to me really unlikely as first DLC.

Mongolia was mentioned in an early preview somewhere, so I think the Mongols will be included. Spain or Inca could be the other one.

I would like to see Vikings (well Scandinavia), partly because they were an important part of history but perhaps even more because everyone knows about the vikings as historical characters (even if a lot of the "known" "facts" are wrong). However spain, mongolia and inca is great civs also.
I also thinks that the civs will be released together in a theme, like perhaps raiders: Mongol and Vikings, or Conquistador-something: Spain and Inca.

But I wonder if they really will release important civs as DLC:s and not save them for an expansion, there has to be new civs in an expansion and civs like estonia is not that exciting (no offence estonians) right? I actually belive that they save some of the great civs to an expansion and the DLC:s will contain "minor" civs.

We already know about Babylon - I bet it will also be a DLC (remember, they're not going to be available until the end of 2010. That'll be enough time for the deluxe edition exclusivity to end). My guess is the other will be Inca or another African Civ, just for geographic coverage.
Asia - ~17,000 mi2, 7 1/2 civs (Russia counts as half, not counting Babylon): 2,200 mi2 / civ
Africa - ~12,000 mi2, 2 civs: 6,000 mi2 / civ
N. America - ~9,500 mi2, 3 civs (including Aztec) : 3,166 mi2 / civ
S. America - ~7,000 mi2, 0 civs !
Europe - ~4,000 mi2, 5 1/2 civs (Russia counts as half): 727 mi2 / civ!

Just based on starting locations on an Earth map, we don't need any more European civs, and we do need one from South America!

(1) Mongols
(2) Spanish

I have a question: are civs from DLC playable in MP games where the other player does not have said civ?
