The city was in uproar. The Kairien raiders has just left through the north gate. The Gardens in the center of the city was a bloodbath. Slaughtered cityguards and commoners. Men, women and childern. None were spared. The shops and houses were either robbed or set aflame. The fires had been put out by the pouring rain. Thunder and lightning made the sad impression of the loving gardens even more depressing. The last company of guards came rushing out of the domed palace of the councilors. They had to try to keep the mob under control. The days that followed were filled with the mourning of wifes, husbands and children. But the greatest loss of all was the death of the beloved Luxarus Crowfort.
"Alas my friends," the councilor spokeswomen Cecilie Bihra announced " our beloved leader Luxarus Crowfort is dead! He was assasinated during the assult on the city. The Council is now in session discussing the election of the new leader. As you may know, replacing the head councilor will be no easy task. The two canditades are, as of now, Nadime Senkrist and Krusko Musser. The new head councilor will be ordained tomorrow at noon."
The next day at five to noon...
A large crowd had gathered in the Gardens. The grounds were now cleaned of bodies, but remnants of the massacre was still visible.
"Friends, I have news. Nadime Senkrist has been appointed new head councilor!"
A loud murmor went through the crowd, and some muttered: "A women! How is that possible?" Cecilie Bihra chose to ignore those who said that and continued.
"It will take a strong leader to fill Luxarus shoes, but we think that Nadime is the right one to do it. She has promised a 1000 gold crowns to anyone who knows anything about the whereabouts of tha Kairim raiders. She has promised that she will not rest until Luxarus' murdurers are six feet under."
Following this statement a great cheering cry came frome the crowd.
"However there will be a few new rules of safety: The gates to the city will be closed from dusk to dawn and none will pass them between that time without the seal and signature of one of the councilors. The city guard will be increased and given additionl training. Residents of the city should stay in closer contact with each other. Unity will be important. We must stay together, especially now that the enemy is also inside our own borders."
The weeks passed, and after Luxarus' funeral life slowly returned to normal. If life in war can be called normal.
