Star Trek unit preview thread

Since basically I'm the only one making new graphics for this mod and that there are still over 100 ships to be made that could still take a while... Any help for the mod is welcome in the ST mod forum (first link in my signature).

How many units are you going to stick in this scn??? Sounds like you got like 60 ships per civ (at least for the big 4). A way to save time would be just to start out at TOS timeline and already have the Vulcans and others a part of the Fed. Also ship designs would be easier.

It will be like 50 for the Feds, 40 for the Klingons, 30 for the Rommies, about 16 for the Cardassians, 12 or so for the Borg. I'm not sure yet about the rest. In total it will be well over 200 ships.

Wait, one civ will have 50 units, and another will have 12? :crazyeye: :confused:

It's normal for the borg not to have so many units since they don't change them from age to age (they are so powerful they don't need to). However civs like the federation have a more complicated unit line because they start with those ships from Kirk's time and go till Voyager's age. At least this is how I understand it :) .

There is a practical reason for that: there are not many models available for the Tellarites, Bajorans, Andorians, Bolians, First Federation, etc... Even the fan fiction is a bit disappointing in that respect. So that is why in the mod the same graphics will be used for the various upgrades.
Not all units will be used in the epic game, but some are for various scenarios that are being planned.

Besides, I would never ever make 31x50 ships :p :crazyeye:

Just think that 1250 of the unit types are actually cloaked and it might work... :lol:

Flamand, apropos cloaking: How have you implemented the cloaking device grafically? Is it like with the old models, that ships render pseudo invis, when the are fortified? I know that regarding gamestats there is nothing else possible but to check the invisible box, but I never thought how to bring it to best use in the animation.

Yeah, that's how I will do it: a fortify animation where the ship is fading .

Well, though I still have to wait for the rights on the graphics, I will give a glimpse on what they could look like in game. They are quite small, though I really hope to get the somewhat bigger originals of those, especially for the Pedia entries.

Ah yes, from top to down, and left to right.

Neptune -> Crystals (for electronics)
Venus -> Deuterium (power supply for industry etc.)
Asteroid belt -> Latinum (money, should probably harvested in a nebula)
Asteroid belt -> Titanium (metal 1)
Mars -> Iridium (metal 3)
Mercury -> Dilithium (power source for ships)
Asteroid belt -> Duranium (metal 2)

You have some good ideas there. Maybe you can post them in Thors' ST forum as well?

Well, if he would accept my application to his forum, I would. Give him a bumb to do so, since I still can not log in there.

I PM-ed him about it. He's been a bit busy lately with other stuff, but I'm sure he'll show up again soon... ;).

Here are the F6 DD and theE4 FF...

Some of the civs you listed above have no ships or in case of Andorites joined the Federation and so would use Federation ships. I say give Vulcan, Andor, Betazed, and those Feddy Civs the same ships you give humans. Save time that way (Unless you already have models for them). The fact is I don't know many of the ST races outside of: Cardassia, Romulans, Humans, Vulcans, Borg, Dominion, Klingons, Bajor, and Breen. As long as you get them good I think most people will be happy.

also to add to it, most the time I play 8-player games because I like multiple humans to start more wars. So if you got 8 good civs in your mod I would be happy :). Thx for your effort and everyone thx for answering my questions, I not very knowledgable on Star Trek but their scns are a lot of fun. I have this one for civ2 that has stars wars and star trek lol.

I have a couple of pre-Fed ships for the Vulcan, Telarites and Andorians that can be used as flavor units. For some other races I could use Trekky looking ships that are on these forums.

Here's a list of all civs with the number of unique fleets that are planned (green = finished):

Playable Civs: Feds (4), Klingons (4), Romulans (3), Borg (2-3), Dominion (1-2), Cardassian (2), Gorn (2?), Species 8472 (?), Tholians (?), Andromeda (?), Ferengi (1), Kzinti (?), Breen (2?)

Minors: Vulcans (1-2), Tellarites (2-3 units), Andorians (2-3 units), Bolians (0), Suliban (2-3 units), Orions (2-3 units), Rigellians (0), Saurians (0), Cavarnon (?), First Federation (2-3 units), Denobulans (0), Tzenkethi (?), Bajorans (2-3 units), Betazoid (0), Trill (0), Son’a (?).

Hmm, well true enough, that those races joined the federation, though they do have their own shipdesigns. At least they did before they joined the UFP.
Especially Andorians, Vulcans and Tellarites had quite some fleets out in the Alpha Quadrant before joining the Federation and I bet even afterwards. In fact we do know little about their more advanced shipdesign after they joined UFP. But then, all we ever see are predominatly Humans in the UFP, a little mixed up with some Vulcans. And what if those races never had joined the UFP and build up their own empires?
