Star Trek unit preview thread

Wrong again? But no problem, I think I know an easy way to make that...
Next time, please tell me the attacks before I start ok? :) Will save me quite some time...;)

Third time is the charm... :)

The kind people of BotF2 just gave me an entire low-poly Cardassian fleet. :woohoo:
Now I'll have to figure out which one is which...

Well, that is why I would prefer you to get on MSN at least once per day. I also had an entire Cardassian fleet to. ;) But you have not been on MSN in the last couple of days. I also have other things we need to discuss.:)

:nuke: Cheers, Thorgrimm :nuke:

I was online several times today, but you were not there. If I'm not there, please email me and I'll get back to you asap... :)

Flamand, I am on at this very moment. Strange, As I was on continously from 11 am till about 5PM CST today. Never saw you get on once? Do you log in with your status hidden?

Flamand, those models are excellent!

If it helps, the Gorn are a playable race in Starfleet Command 2, so there are plenty of models in there that could give you an idea for more Civ-Trek models. ;)

The Gorn use Plasma torpedoes in that game as their primary heavy weapon, just like the other guys have said. They don't use plasma-R's to the same extent as the Romulans though, so perhaps their attack power should be <slightly> lower than that of the Romulans...?

In Starfleet Command 2, the Gorn rely on larger numbers of less powerful Plasma. This gives them better firing-to-recharge times than the Romulans, who prefer a single, devastating attack. The Romulans then Cloak whilst their primary weapon recharges.

Gorn ships are also some of the toughest ships in the game - they can take huge amounts of internal damage. In comparison, the Romulans have relatively flimsy ships, and prefer to rely on their Cloak and agility to avoid taking damage in the first place.

...

If it helps, I can tell you what (Most of) the Cardassian ships are.

First ship on the left - Telok Class Heavy Cruiser
The orange one above it - One of Jigalypuffs new models, it's an advanced scout. (Late TNG to DS9 era)
The orange one to the right of that - another of Jig's new models, it's the most powerful ship the Cardassians will be able to build in BOTF2. It dwarfs all known Alpha-Quadrant vessels, and is about 5 times bigger than a Sovereign. (Post Nemesis era)
The one below that - Nerok Class Scout
Middle-top-left - Keldon Class Strike Cruiser
Middle - Outpost
Middle-top-right - Neterok Class Cruiser
The one above that - Toran Class Troop Transport
Bottom-right - Netel Class Destroyer
Middle-right - Galor Class Battleship
Top-right - Starbase (Obviously;))

I have a bit of bad news if you haven't heard yet Flamand - Jigalypuff has quit the BOTF2 team!

He's gonna carry on making his own mods and stuff, but other than moderating the site, he won't be making anything else for the game.

The project is still on though, but this is obviously a big blow to the project. :(

The Gorn ships in SFC2 and the other interplay games are nasty looking. They look like bricks with engines. No style or grace at all. I Would suggest to Flamand to ignore those ships for the Gorn, too damned ugly.:D

Sometimes, sometimes not. I stay online for a short while to see if you are there and if not I leave...

Thanks Mattress for all this information, I can certainly use it... :) As far as the models are concerned I think we are completely covered by Thorgrimms latest finds and conversions.
Too bad for BotF2 that Jig left, hope you guys can manage without him... :(

BOTF2 should continue even without Jigalypuff - he hasn't left the site since he has an obligation to afc (The guy who owns the site) to run and moderate the site, but he won't be helping with the game anymore.

Gavin Turfey (The lead programmer) is still working on it and has no intention of giving up as far as I know, so things are still on track. The loss of the main modeler will obviously hit the project hard though.

...

Thorgrimm, I personally liked the "bulkiness" of the ships in Starfleet Command. They lacked grace because the ships are meant to be massive great hulking pieces of metal - they need time to maneuover and accelerate.

Whilst I am loathe to criticise Star Trek, I actually think having the ships like that is more realistic than they are portrayed in Star trek, although the argument that their better technology (Ie. inertial dampeners) would negate such effects makes it realistic once more.

Either way, I still like the ships.

...

If you use any more of the models from BOTF, let me know if you need more info. I'll be happy to help. ;)

Mattress, that is what is so good about liking the Gorn, there has never been a canon ship, so you can use whatever style you like.:D

:nuke: Cheers, Thorgrimm :nuke:

Mattress, do you know of any Dominion ships in BotF2? Probably not, right?

Flamand, I just added the DY-100 to the mod, and in game it has a ghostly white box around the unit. I will get a screenshot up with the problem later on today on the Forums.

:nuke: Thorgrimm :nuke:

ok, I'll check it later.

Hi once more.
Please don't crucify me for deserting from the project, but I am 100% occupied by university at this time.

I found some of the original BOTF textures in the following link.
There is also quite a good number of Icons, that can be used for the Techs/Buildings.

Its good to see that MOE found his way to this place and that finally some textures made their way to you, flamand. Please continue working on the Mod!

On ships issue:
I never played too many ST games, but the universe is not always a place of grace, though it has become lately in Trek, were all ships must be slick-looking.

The Gorn arguement has a point. Since the Gorn are bulky and ugly looking, up to a point their ships could look like that. But those ships Thorgrimm posted about(identical designs were handed to me a few months back by Marcus Maximus with the same reasoning, that we don't know how Gorn ships look like) look good as well.

BotF 1 also has some designs I think could be turned to Romulan or maybe Gorn ones, if you're interested and can get the models.

@Mentat: Welcome back! No worries, we don't crucify. We are civilized, so you will be zapped... :D
@Flamescreen: I don't know if we still need models, Thor is getting them together for me. Thanks for the offer...
