Star Wars geeks who need girlfriends thread

Eh, they're not using the thread for anything else. :P

It's like building on an abandoned lot; you pay the back taxes, and improve it for five years, and it's yours. In Maryland it is, anyway
Squatter's rights work for me. :p

I can see that. It'll come in use later, if you're pursuing a History degree.
I've got enough AP-derived credits to be able to branch out and double-major, doing history and international relations. Been thinking about that for awhile.

I kept holding out in those games for the capital ships to engage each other, but it rarely happened. I remember one mission in TIE Fighter where a pirate Mod. Nebulon-B engaged a VSD; naturally it got curb-stomped. But generally, the battles were WWII carrier-style, with the ships themselves rarely engaging one another.
Yeah, except with some of the lighter ships; Nebulon-Bs fought against Carracks in at least one of the X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter missions, for example. And there was one mission in which an ISD was triple-teamed by Nebulon-Bs, where the frigates usually get pretty close. But in general, yeah, the capital ships last wayyyy longer than their starfighter complements do.
Cheezy the Wiz said:
The expansion is good, but the pirates of wayyy over powered. There are mods for it that are very fun, though, and yes, the Eclipse makes a rather interesting appearance. He only steals it for a mission or two, though, to get data about something (I can't remember what), and then blows it up.
Overpowered pirates? Ewww...memories of Europa Barbarorum and the Eleutheroi on the harder difficulty levels. Boii are insane in that game.
Cheezy the Wiz said:
I was very mad that you couldn't build it in the Galactic Civil War campaign map, yet the Empire gets to have Executor.
The Empire gets the Executor? That's pretty awesome.
Cheezy the Wiz said:
I suppose they figured the pirates were overpowered enough as it is (and it's true), but they could have given it to the Empire, they could sure use it; their position is doubly hard in the expansion. Imagine what it was like playing as the Seleucids in RTW, and mulitply that by about 2 or 3.
Ooooh. That's nasty, like Pontos in EB nasty. Still, I suppose similar conditions apply; the Empire has higher-end stuff at higher tech levels (like the Seleukid Silver Shield pikemen and legionaries (!)), and control of the more profitable areas, right?
Cheezy the Wiz said:
I found a rather good mod for it, but again, the pirates are even more overpowered than before; I needed to haul around the Death Star to overpower their LV3, 4 and 5 space stations! So it has some serious balancing issues, but the fleet size is something like tripled, as well as unit types and other cool stuff.
I might look into it, then, as soon as cash becomes less of an issue. :)
Cheezy the Wiz said:
Fortunately, I never played Force Commander; I heard it was eh.
A lot of the elements were really similar to Empire at War (like the reinforcement points and so forth), so it was easy to go from one to the other, but there were no space battles and the whole thing was badly implemented overall.

Personally, I'd like a Star Wars version of one of the Homeworld games, but I know that'll never happen. :(
That...would be awesome.

My AIM is in your PM box if the Feds show up.

Sweet.

I vaguely recall that battle now (the Nebulon Bs). I've seen frigates engage platforms before, that's similarly spectacular, or the occasional unlucky corvette that wanders too close to something.

By Pirates I meant The Consortium, aka Tyber Zann's crime syndicate.

The Empire gets the Executor? That's pretty awesome.

Yes, it's Darth Vader's new space ship, it replaces his TIE Advanced and accompanying squadron. It is accordingly both huge and ass-kicking. It's basically a huge ISD with tractor beam and that can spawn infinite squadrons.

Ooooh. That's nasty, like Pontos in EB nasty. Still, I suppose similar conditions apply; the Empire has higher-end stuff at higher tech levels (like the Seleukid Silver Shield pikemen and legionaries (!)), and control of the more profitable areas, right?

Their position is convertible into a win, if that's what you mean, but the Consortium is so overpowered that to fight on remotely even terms with them, you have to rush to the highest tech levels, while making a few early-game grabs at isolated Rebel planets and praying to God that Tyber Zann leaves you the hell alone.

I might look into it, then, as soon as cash becomes less of an issue. :)

X-mas is around the corner.

That doesn't sound like it would be that bad, almost like a glorified Galactic Battlegrounds.

That...would be awesome.

They have mods for HW 2, but they're just not the same.

Now I'm getting all sad that I haven't played a Star Wars game since the old Commodore 64 Return of the Jedi. Being Chewbacca and controlling the Scout Walker roooooocked!

About Outbound Flight, if I could make any single Star Wars book into a movie - excepting Shadows of the Empire, which pretty much was a movie, to all intents and purposes - it would be Outbound Flight. C'baoth falling to the dark side? That right there is a golden moment.

Except it came before Galactic Battlegrounds. I suppose that's a plus, since there isn't a Gungan campaign that way. :p

That would actually work better than turning the original Thrawn trilogy into movie versions, too...and it'd fit well with the prequel-era multimedia spam that Lucas and co. are doing right now. I want to see Kinman Doriana as a character in something.

It would also make more sense than making the Thrawn trilogy, because most of the actors would be new, and those that weren't wouldn't be in their sixties playing 30 years olds. Not that that would be anything new for Hollywood.

And Kinman Doriana was an awesome character. Intelligent, manipulative, ambitious. Zahn needs to write some short stories involving missions he did for Sidious.

Yeah, Harrison Ford has experience on that front...:p Who'd play Anakin, I wonder? He was still in his early teens, that's too early for Christiansen, and Lloyd just sucked.

Kind of like how Zahn wrote about Parck finding Thrawn, and wrote that collaboration with Stackpole that was a Corran Horn/Hal Horn/Thrawn/Zekka Thyne story of AWESOMENESS? I agree.

Zahn's actually written quite a few short stories for Star Wars, some of them with Stackpole - I've got one describing how Ysanne Isard had her own father executed for treason just to take his job. But the Parck one is the one I find most interesting. It was fun trying to figure out exactly how Thrawn was pulling off all the things he was doing to Parck's troops. But a short story every six months involving a dorian mission would be an awesome series.

That was the one on Darkknell in Tales of the New Republic, yeah. It also involved Moranda Savich, a sadly underemployed character, and the eminently excellent Garm bel Iblis.

Yeah. I really want him to explore that bit from Survivor's Quest where there was speculation that there might be a Thrawn clone out there somewhere orchestrating things from behind the scenes (in this instance, the destruction of the Vagaari). IIRC Zahn has said that he wants said clone to team up with Ben Skywalker, which would be cool.

And Hal Horn as well. All the characters in that story are criminally underused. I'm reading The Unifying Force right now, and one of the few things I like about is Luceno's habit of bringing back old characters, such as Roa in his first few books of the NJO, and now Judder Page and Pash Cracken.

Zahn has said he has two novel ideas. One involves a book exploring the relationship between Ben, Luke, and Mara (stupid Sacrifice. If they were going to kill someone, it might as well have been Lando, they haven't actually used him in a decade) and the clone story - from Thrawn's POV, for the first time. And I remember him mentioning teaming Thrawn with Ben.

:lol::lol::lol:

I also thought the rape in the episode was disturbing. It was pretty graphic; I sort of had a jaw-drop moment throughout the episode. Then again, I thought perhaps that there had been a rape scene in the movie, which was probably half the disbelief.

They changed the thread name again. Star Wars > girlfriends. Best you learn that mods.

I read the Yuzhan Vong series up until Anakin dies after which it becomes patethic. The guy was the only good characther of the lot. The rest were pathetic whining little biatches. So I skipped to the next series....and guess what I found?

An emo becomes a pseudo-Sith and does things lamely. Its rather pathetic. I'm waiting for the real Sith to come tear him a new one, but I hear he dies in the next book anyway so its all good.

XD at thread title change. Nice one Bugfatty :goodjob:

That sounds like my reaction, except I had the stupidity to stick it out for the entire series. And yeah, he did end up dying. Book came out earlier this year.

You gotta go in the other direction; GCW and pre-GCW stuff is some of the best IMO.

The cable connection in my apartment is horrible, I couldnt actually tell how bad it was :crazyeye:

But when they first mentioned rape, I immediately knew what what going to happen.
