WOW. I have been playing CivIII ever since the first week it came out. I came to this site looking for some advise on how to beat the game at highest difficulty, and i found your SW thread. I just want to say that it is the coolest thing ive ever seen. I didnt even know about Mods. Im still reading all the posts right now but the incredible amount of detail youve put into this thing, Tpasmall. Awesome job. Youve inspired me to try and make a mod myslef so ive got some questions: 1) Is it possible to creat new techs, units and improvements or can you only modify existing ones? 2) Is it possible to create a new type of victory? 3) How do you change the animations and artwork for the units? do you use a photoshop program? 4) is it possible to change the way buildings look in the "overhead view" of a city?

If you guys could answer any of these questions, that would be awesome.

PS tpasmall, your my hero.

For a firsttimer you do have alot of question. ;)

Most of your question is already answered in the tutorial section and most of the program required can be obtained for free in the utility section of the forum as well. A short answer to your questions are as follow:

1) Yes, you can create new tech, new units and new improvements. Then again, you can of course editing the current ones. :D

2) I don't think you can create a new type of victory as this require that the AI understand the new victory condition and work towards it.

3) Grab the utility created by Moeniir from the utility section called Flicster. Then I suggest you read up a little on the tutorial created by me on creating unit animations. ;)

4) Yes. You need to edit the relevant pcx file for those buildings. However, no one has yet to find out how to add new building in the birdeye view.

Hope that helps.

Just a suggestion tpasmall, but have you though of using the Lwhekk as a race? you might not know them if you dont read the books...

BTW, do you have the Star Wars Essentail Giudes to.... (Planets, technology, charactors) they have a lot of info and could be a lot of help

Thanks, Dark.

Where exatcly is the Moeniir thing? im kinda confused. a link would be helpful.

Hey AnarchyIsGreat do u have those essential guides? If so would it be possible to scan some pictures, mechanical plans, etc if there are any. Would make my modeling work much easier.
If so let me know and i'll give u my email address wehre u can send em.

Thanks

Neo, i have the Essentail guide to Plantes and Moons right in front of me, so tpasall, if you could just post agin all the civs you still need city names for, ill look through and see if i can find any. Ive also got the essentail guide to weapons and technology which could be very useful for the tech tree. as for scanning, i dont have a scanner, but ill ask around with my freinds and see what i can do.

OK so i was all prepared to do my first MODing, i opened up /civIII/art/units/scout, to try and make him a gungan, but the unit art was in .flc format. what is that? whar program can i use to mess around with it. i tried using flicster, but i can seem to screw with it, only look at it. plz help!

Ive desided to go through the entire tech tree and make suggestions on what the technologies should be rename and what they should allow you to build, etc...

I also would like to do some research on city names and special units, so could someone post somewhat final list of what all the races(civs) will be?

Hello Anarchy, good to see that someone else has joined up for helping make this mod. You seem to have ALOT of knowledge about Star Wars and it related stuff so thanks for offering your help.

Here is the civ list:
Naboo
Rebels
Imperials
Gungan
Bounty Hunters
Hutt Criminal Organization
Trade Federation
Jedi
Sith
Wookiee
Sullustian
Ewok
Jawa
Mon Calamari
Bespin
Old Republic

As for ones i still need names for:
Wookiee
Ewok
Jawa
Mon Calamari
Old Republic
Trade Federation

The rest of the civs are covered for the most part.
Once again thanks for your help :D

Doh! You must use Flicster to export the Civ3 flc into either standard flc (which you will need Animation Shop to edit it) or Storyboard style pcx file (which you can use any program that support the pcx format to edit it such as PaintShopPro). When you open Flicster, the last tab is export. :)

Don't get too excited too fast cause editing or making an flc is alot of work as you usually need to change about 400 over frames of animations for one unit alone (my calvary unit has over 900 frames :p ). Anyway, welcome to the modding club!! :cooool:

OK, got it. Thanks to both Dark and tpas. is there any other program you can use to edit the files other than Animation shop? if not, where can i get animation shop?

hard at work on changing granery into Moisture Farm. got the civliopedia entry written. some ideas for technologies: Alphabet=Communications, The Wheel=Basic Propulsion, Code of Laws=Jedi code maybe?, Currency=Universal Credit system?

hehe, its all about being a late nighter, up at 1:30 AM working on a star wars mod.

anyway, two things. firstly, anyone know where i could find some star wars graphics? like the ones you guys were posting earlier, with the rotating ships. Second, what ever happened to http://www.visim.com/starwars/ ? it looked like an awesome site, great graphics and everything.

furthermore i dont understand your train of thought by making sith and bounty hunters an actual civ ... if i were to make a suggeston these would seem more like specialty units ... the old an ewok could always be a bounty hunter but a bounty hunter isnt always an ewok ... follow me???:)

-heres a civ (from truce at bakura book) Ssi-ruuvi
-as for a wookie leader name check the solo trilogy books by ac crispin
-ewok why not wicket?

the Ssi-ruuvi were only in one book, and that was the worst one i have read of the entire starwars series (although i have avioded the one written by the bloke who played Darth Maul)

Leader for Trade fed. : Chancerlor Nute Gunray, no know citys, only two ships, fighter and battleships.

for mon calimari names, check the Jedi acadamy trilogy - part of that set there and could give the naming conventions.

i really wish that i was at home, i have so much more info there. a week and a half and i have all the books Anarcy mentioned except for Droids and Charactures.

im trying to get a broad sence of whats been accomplished so far. if people could post what theyve done, that would be great. Also, where can i get that cool terrian mod, the one where water is space and beach is rock.

That is the template of the Star Wars mod site. The real one will be hosted on a different server. I am working on it now. Got a couple ppl who can donate some webspace which is cool, then will add more pages to the website. I've beeen extrememly busy lately too.

Hello

Much talked about whilst i was at work ;)

Ok lets start with the civs the Sith and Bounty Hunters and why i picked them.

Sith- If you read on www.starwars.com you will notice that the Sith actually at one time were an empire. Darth Bane decided that only 2 sith could be allowed at one time. Before that though, the Sith along with the Massassi, were a strong nation.

Bounty Hunters- I picked them because they are a large guild in Star Wars. Also certain cultures such as the Gand Findsman, believe that bounty hunting is in effect its own way of life, or culture. Bounty Hunters in the Star Wars universe have defined themselves as a people set apart from the rest of the galaxy, with their own values and standards.

Next for Trade Federation city names, i was doing some research and actually found that Nemoidians are a close relative of Duros. So was also using Duros city names.

Civ advances- I have finished the ancient era and have started the medieval one. Alphabet i have changed to the Aurebesh (think that how its spelled) which is the basic language for the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars graphics can be found all over the internet, and i dont really know of any specific sites. Paint Shop Pro is the program that i use for all the animations i do, and you can download a trial version of it at www.download.com

What is currently done:
Units:
Xwing
Ywing
Awing
Tie Interceptor
MSE-6 aka 'mouse droid'
R2 unit
Nebulan B Frigate

Various Art:
Era Splashes
Various Civilopedia Images
Miliatary Advisor
Title Picture
Credits Pictures
Changed some buttons to Imperial Symbols

Leader Heads:
Darth Vader

Im sure that i forgot something in there but if i did oh well.

Lukree is still working on the terrain graphics so they will hopefully be done soon.

Well thats all, sorry if i forgot to answer any questions, or missed an idea. If i did just repost it.

Thanks

Thanks tpas. you say youve finished the ancient era techs? could you post some of them? im just curious.

If you use bounty hunters as a civ, i have many town names that i can find in the essentail guide to planets and moons. not all of these towns "belong" to bounty hunters, but the guide says that they are favorite hang-out spots for them. Mos Eislely, for example, or Nar Shadda, could be bounty hunter towns. (unless you already using them)
