Star Wars: The Mod Strikes Back

...the supe is too big for the terrain, takes up 3 squares...Is the tech tree completed or touched upon? I've also made a full tech tree, tho i havent completed akll the icons yet, that fits with my unit tree. I'll post it if it's wanted.
Any icons you need, just run them by me. Unless they are really out there, i should be able to make them in 30min to an hour.

As for the SSD. THose things are MASSIVE. I think the scale is about right.

@sheepmonster- i think odintheking's already made a tech trees for the first two eras and has the other ones in progress. (though, with the completion of the unit tree- unless anyone else has any qualms about it- it may need editing).

Hey all. I was bored, so I created a title screen.

Uh.......didn't you spell sid meier wrong?

I prefer Dogmouse's template. It is what I use. Also Kingpin used a different template a few days ago that looked quite nice.

Dogmouse's template is for Photoshop. The other one is just a GIF, and so would work on any of the better paint programs.

I just looked at SWC's unit tree and decided to make changes to it.

I got rid of sea/aquatic units as that only complicates things. There weren't many battles fought on/in water and water seems to be very difficult to implement properly.

I merged the Fast Fighter and Experimental Ship lines together as they looked kinda thin and 4 Starfighter lines seemed like too much. I replaced TIE Fighter Scout with TIE Droid in the standard Starfighter Line (waiting for Sheepy's rebuttal) ;). I made a Command Ship line from the Star Cruiser/Warship as it wouldn't be right for an Imperial SD to upgrade to an SSD.

I reworked the Defensive Infantry line to something that I think is better. I moved all mounted units to the 1st Era as I think there should be a mounted unit tech in that era. I decided we could fill in the void in Imperial Artillery/Turret by using Gun Towers as their turret unit. I also slimmed down some of the other unit lines to make the list of units that needs to be done shorter. Now I think the unit tree is more streamlined than it was before. :)

I edited this in Lotus Spreadsheet and exported it to .xls format so I'm not 100% sure if this will work.

ok, i have several qualms about the new list; here are a few-

1. while it is streamlined, there is no allowance for post-episode VI units- the likes of which would be necessary in any YV mod. What we could do is, like Varlin suggested, add the YV mod as a sort of 'expansion pack' and include in that expansion pack an era 5 for the Rebel Alliance to include such units as the New Republic Star Destroyer and the Bulwark Battlecruiser so as to allow for accurate YV Invasion-era combat. I could settle for that, and postpone making the New Republic-era units for the expansion pack.

2. many upgrades don't make sense such as TIE Interceptor>TIE Advanced; the TIE Interceptor came after the TIE Advanced and (i think) was more powerful and able to be mass-produced. Why would the Sith Interceptor, possibly the most powerful one-man ship in the galaxy, upgrade to a simple Belbullab-22 Fighter? etc etc etc

3. I structured my unit tree so that:
-Era 1 represented episode I for the Republic and CIS (though it technically didn't exist until episode II) and episode IV for the Rebels and Empire
-Era 2 represented episode II for the Republic and CIS and V for the Rebels and Empire
-Era 3 represented the inbetween (clone wars) for the Republic and CIS and Episode VI for the Empire
-Era 4 represented episode III for the Republic and CIS and post-VI for Empire and Rebels.
i liked the way it was structured to follow the episodes, but the new tree lacks that- the geonosian warrior can be built in era 1 while the Droid Control ship can't until era 2, etc.

4. this is not a qualm, but i noticed this in Chris's and Sheepmonster's unit trees- that they have light cruisers, star cruisers, and flagship units. As a compromise, i could rearrange the tree to allow for flagship units :)

5. We could have the empire have 'gun tower,' but i couldn't find any turrets for them and seeing as they have powerful mechs i figure to balance that out the Empire could lack turrets.

6. To save unit-graphics-making time, it could be possible for there to be a single bounty hunter graphic, prefarably Boba Fett (since he is the supreme bounty hunter and is the clone of the Jango Fett of the prequels, resembling him).

7. I can't upload Unit Tree 6 and Unit List 2- they don't show up in the uploads folder- i'll try to find out what's wrong, so expect them soon.

OK, if you're all so desperate for a TIE droid, might a make a suggestion of where to put it? In the experimental line. It was an experiment fighter when the planet eaters (too early in the morning for me to remember what they're actually called...) attacked mon cal - so shouldnt they go in the experiment/advanced list?
Still the problem with the Z-95 - it was more powerful than the ARC-170 wasn't it? Altho it didn't have s-foils (never knew the point of them anyway) it shouldn't be the republic's starting unit.
For Stats-wise, my new unit tree splits up into 3 different warship class - frigate, cruiser, and capital ship. Frigates had transport of any unit, cruisers had defense (stasrfighters were offense) and capital ships were big but really expensive.
Couldn't we put the TIE crawler at the end of the light mechs? I thought it was stronger than an AT-AT, or similar, but i must admit i haven't seen what book it's from.
Couldn't the empire be given tripod cannon as their artillery? Like the one used in Episode V by the snowtrooper....
[my list of complaints grows shorter and shorter...]

On a more fun note, i've finsihed my new MC-80, doesn't look as bad as.......somethnig bad..... not quite perfect, but it is my first unit after all.
Will search for good sounds (the others i found aren't very good), and am now working on a new Medical Frigate.
I'm not too sure about the sizing for the SSD - and the shadow. If it's in space, there will be no shadow right? anyway, i was going to shrin it a bit so its the size of a carrier (biggest ship in civ 3 i think), and remove the shadow.......does everyone agree?
Also, have found new models (i never knew unit making was so fun!) for the Droid Fighter, TIE defender, carrack cruiser, lancer frigate, corellian gunship.....in fact anything in X-Wing alliance... am also working on ISD, sith infiltrator, and snowspeeder still. If anyone wants to see my progress, i'll be happy to post....if i can work out how :$

@ sheepmonster- congrads on your first unit- mine took forever, i never got how to animate it, and it all seems useless seeing as there are all these models out there.

1. The TIE Droid is already in the experimental line; great minds think alike
2. Weaponry wise, here's the ARC 170: 2 medium laser cannons, 2 aft laser cannons, and 6 proton torpedoes; and the Z-95 Headhunter:Triple blasters and concussion missiles. The ARC 170 seems stronger, but nonetheless the point remains- the Z-95 Headhunter was a cheap, common craft that existed quite some time before Episode I that was among the most powerful of its pre-Clone Wars time. If the cheap, common craft that was the Z-95 Headhunter stronger than its own fighters, the Republic would have used it instead.
3. The TIE Crawler was much smaller and weaker than the AT-AT- it had two medium blaster cannons and one light turbolaser cannon while the AT-AT had blast-impervious armor plating as well as two light blaster cannons and two heavy turbolaser cannons. But it didn't appear until the battles of the various imperial warlords fighting for control of Coruscant post-ROTJ, so i did place it at the end of light mechs, and moved their other mechs to the left to fill the gap, just for a different reason.

Again, congrads on your newfound love for unit making- arguably the most difficult part of modding (well, for me at least)!

ok, i've been searching for some units that could pass for SW and came across a few useful ones. NONE OF THESE UNITS ARE MINE.

First, i found a unit of Bjornlo's making that could pass for some sort of Rebel Flagship for Era 4 (Bulwark Battlecruiser). The Bulwark Battlecruiser looks kinda ugly and complicated, while this ship could be something like Advanced Bulwark Battlecruiser or something. Though the two ships look nothing alike, i'd much rather see this one than the original.

I also found a Space Gunboat that could pass for something (it looks familiar- i just don't remember what it looks like), if nothing else Commerce Shuttle or something like that.

Lastly, here's something that could pass for a Clone Bomber/Adv. Clone Bomber :http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=28784
