Thanks!
Heh - love the obvious MoO influence. E.g. A spying race named Draylock.. bear race named Kulrathi

Hahah, I was going to make this thread yesterday, but never got around to it.

I've gotten the game, and so far I'm liking it, although I'm having trouble figuring out how to do a few things like transporting my infantry from system to system, or capturing relics.

For a few criticisms, the ship design interface resembles a somewhat less elegant version of that seen in Gratuitous Space Battles. I find this, and several cases of very small and hard-to-click buttons, to be somewhat frustrating, but I expect this is a learning curve issue more than anything. Maneuvering through space can be a bit inelegant, as I have not yet found out how to instantly zip from system rather than tediously zooming out to galaxy view, and zooming back in to a different world. Also, I don't entirely get how subspace projectors work, and the wiki does not yet provide indepth information to learn.

Thusfar, my first playthrough (as the Ralyeh, the adorable Lovecraftian Cephalopod Zealots) has been a big learning experience. I took a very bad tech path that has left me scientifically behind and badly impoverished (due to never researching critical economic technologies that would let me extract more income from my colonies). Also, in my first attempt at war, all of my beautiful 'Zion'-class Frigates warped into Pollop space, to fight alongside my Human allies, only to fire two rounds and immediately retreat. It turns out that having spare ordnance storage is very, very important. :p I have now designed an ordnance-supplying support frigate, hopefully this will alleviate my issues without necessitating a complete overhaul of every naval vessel I own. A spaceship design tutorial video would be extremely useful.

Overall, despite these criticisms, I'm really enjoying the game. It's fun, pretty (diplomacy screens look like moving paintings, I quite like the style), and has a wicked sense of humour (first contact with the Cordrazine, for example). The game's still in beta, so I expect that a lot of the tutorial and interface issues will soon be straightened out.

Definitely looks cool, especially the ability to control an individual ship. I hope that it can be modded though but it's okay if it can't.

Does it have nested tactical RTS type combat? That might be worth getting for that, if it was good.

I would actually consider the play style similar to how Paradox's grand strategy games work. You hit the space bar to pause, set build orders and move units and when you're done you hit the space bar again to resume.

Nope. Like I said, it's like EU3 where time progresses at a steady rate and you can pause with the space bar to do your orders and such.

I will be watching this game. Won't be getting it yet, since I have too many others I need to catch up on, but from what I've seen so far it looks like a decent game.

I've got the game and have been enjoying it. Relatively simple and real time rather than turn based is good.

There's already a few mods available which change the tech trees, ship hulls and add more events. I've yet to try any so I'm not sure how far the game can be modded but a few of the mods I looked up were quite interesting.

I'm pretty sure there were some tech trees where players actually started out pre-warp and having to develop a lot of core technology from scratch which could be interesting.

There's a lot of talk about how Zero is planning to add multiplayer in the future. I think that, despite its released state, a lot of the game is still in a beta of sorts. I anticipate lots of further additions to the game.

It's on sale this weekend. Has really bad reviews though. Not feeling it, but anyone care to convince me otherwise?

I'm still enjoying it, and... hmm, the reviews I saw (back a month or so ago) all seemed to like it. What did the bad reviews say about it?
