State of the Empire - Term X

State of the Empire
Turn Update

Turn: 191
Year: 710 AD

Headlines:

Theory of Evolution completes!! We learn Replaceable Parts, Refining, and Steel!!

Dnuts land 40 units near Rhodes!! MIA military essentially ignores them!!

Dnuts completed Sun Tzu’s!!

We have 2 sources of rubber and 2 sources of oil!!

I stuck mostly to my build orders, I think, although I didn’t actually look at them…

I decided to build artillery in Heron instead of cavalry since we sold the barracks.

Sold lots of walls in interior towns in case we need the extra cash – we probably still don’t need it, but we don’t need the walls either.

Draft citizens from Black Hole, Northern Retreat, Virtuoso, EMP City, Meleagerville, The Two Rivers, Antville, Aliakmon Stronghold, Phoenopolis, and Rhodes – 10 is plenty, and I think almost all of those towns will grow back next turn.

Move 10 conscript infantry and 16 hoplites to Rhodes and fortify. The 17th hoplite wasn’t on a road, so he couldn’t get there.

Guess what I just learned? Privateers can bombard with the same strength as frigates.

Domestic Matters:

We are running 0% science, 0% luxury. We have 2,978 gold and are running at +584 gpt.

We have 0 beakers invested toward researching Combustion - due in 13 at 375 bpt.

We have 119 towns:

We have 144 native workers and about 59 slaves.

Compared to Donuts we are average.
Compared to KISS we are strong.

Spoiler Battle Log :

To be sent to admins:

4/4 frigate bombs 4/4 privateer near April Fools to ¾.
3/3 galleon attacks 3/3 privateer near Rhodes -> Galleon 2/3, privateer sinks.

To be sent to Dnuts:

4 Cannons bomb stack near Rhodes:

Infantry 4/4 -> ¾
Miss
Infantry 4/4 -> ¾
Infantry 4/4 -> ¾

Thank you Chamnix! Brilliant as always!
:clap:

Turn sent to KISS
All battle logs sent.

I got extra cavalry by empting most towns in the north – there’s a small flip risk, but I left Cavalry in Chamnix’s hold (don’t want to lose Leos) and in the towns closest to the Dnut Channel.

From the Desk of the President:
* Sorry about missing the latest defense update. I’ve come down with the flu, so I played the save in stages – with a nap in-between playing and posting – so it took quite a while. When I was done and looked again. Still I think we’re looking pretty good defense wise. I was happy with how the bombing went, and with the extra units I pulled from up north, I can’t imagine we won’t be safe next turn.

* Focused on improving food in the North… ignoring hills and mountains
* Clearing jungle
* 0 Pollution cleaned this turn.

From the Desk of the President:
* I agree with the principle of starting to chop instead of clearing the jungle – but our land is just starting to look so pretty! I had a few more tiles I just couldn’t resist clearing.
Next turn we can start chopping, but I realized I need some further instruction on how to do it properly. I thought the restriction was only 1 chop per turn to a city. I didn’t realize it applied to each tile for the WHOLE game!! So how do I keep a pattern to remember, and furthermore, how can I control where the chop goes? Playing these turns is already totally stretching the amount of time I have to devote to this game, so I hope the solution isn’t too time consuming.

Sell granary in Polecat.
Sell granary in Sword of General_W.

Sliders

Luxuries at 20%.
Science down to 60% (I found enough new specialists that 60% will complete Flight in 3).

Forestry operations started. I started in the northwest corner of the continent - General_W should have no trouble figuring out which tiles were chopped... the ones with the workers on them.

Boats start moving into position.

MM Athens for extra wealth - should be moved back to 80 spt next turn (Two citizens in Heron from mined plains to coast, Athens takes the mined plains back).

Disband 3 regular and 1 conscript infantry.

Thanks for doing that Chamnix!
:salute:

I could have turned Sci down to 70% last turn - but I thought you wanted to bank some beakers?

Anyway, hopefully that'll be the last turn I have to skip... this term. ;)

Spoiler 0 Battle Log :

To No One:

Workers Update:
Workers = 147
Slaves = 59
* Planting Forests, Chopping Forests, Replacing Irrigation.
* 1 Pollution cleaned this turn.

From the Desk of the President:
* I had to play this turn late at night – got done watching movies with visiting family and found the turn. Fortunately, I think my first time trying the massive moving wall of chopping workers went really well. Used 4 workers and a slave for each planting of a forest, and I don’t think I wasted many worker turns – if any. I didn’t do anything fancy to redirect where the chops went – everything up there needs shields.

I picked up a few more scientists – but not enough to shave a turn off flight… but next turn we should be able to throttle back a bit. Then it should be smooth sailing to Mass Production and Amphibious Warfare.

Workers Update:
Workers = 147

From the Desk of the President:
* I feel really bad about the rioting towns – when I did my sweep last night, it was late, and I must have just missed checking on the happy vs angry people. In the sweep I did this turn, I paid extra close attention. Sorry about that.
* We couldn’t really pick up any taxmen and still have as big of a cushion as Chamnix wanted. So one more turn of steep losses to make sure we get flight with no hiccups.
* I intentionally made Regent Mansion Riot this turn – I’m hoping that will stop the Infantry from completing, so that we can use that full box of shields on a bomber on turn 200. This seemed better to me than ending up with the useless non-veteran Infantry and having to disband it for fractional value shields from it. I hope that works and was the right call.

Very clever! I think whether it works or not will depend on how many shields are accumulated already. If it had 89 shields then the riot will prevent the 90th shield from completing. If we already chopped 90 shields in the bin, then I think the infantry will complete regardless, but I'm not certain. It's definitely worth a try in any case since there is pretty much nothing to lose.

* I decided to go with the fighter from Heron – I don’t remember that Bombers can’t do recon – but Classical Hero is probably right… besides, the fighter would complete in just 1 turn (2 for the bomber) so we can test it out right away!
* I again didn’t disband any infantry. I don’t have orders from the Defense Minister – and at this point, I thought it might be worth the handful of gold to let Chamnix find the best places to disband the units to help us get bombers. I can disband them next turn if I get orders in that vein.
* Also – maybe our Frigates have outlived their usefulness? No one seems to be coming close to our shores anymore.

I'm talking about our other infantry. Not sure we really need more than 1 or 2 anymore... if that.

Turn 200 Update:

Builds

Heron completes fighter, start infantry.

Changed Athens from infantry to bomber (gave some shields from Athens to Heron).
Changed Black Hole from infantry to bomber.
Changed April Fools from infantry to bomber.
Changed Ceasaria from infantry to bomber.
Changed Olympia from cavalry to infantry.
Changed Hindus River from cavalry to infantry.
Changed Pale Dove from infantry to destroyer.
Changed Phi Beta Kappa from infantry to bomber.
Changed Tower of Azzaman to bomber.

Sliders

Luxuries at 20%.
Science down to 30%.

We have 1 fighter - rebased to Ithaca.

I put many towns on starvation diets - as long as they won't lose a citizen in 8 turn, who cares if they have enough food? Even towns with good food tiles to work, I hired scientists - everything is short-term now. No citizens will actually be lost.

I disband one worker in Aliakmon Stronghold because it was going to be 2 shields short on a bomber.

And of course I just generally tinker with everything to see what I can do. I think we ended with 272 scientists. We should have our first 7 bombers next turn.
