Live from the “MIA Acropolis ” in Athens…

State of the Empire
Presidential Update

Turn: 20
Year: 3050 BC

Friends, Greeks, Fellow MIAers… the state of our Empire is: Growing

Domestic Summary:

We have 2 cities, 10 gold, and 18 culture.

We are set 90% science, 10% Luxury, and 0% Economy – for a Net gain of 0 gold per turn.

We are currently building:
Athens: Settler
TBA: Worker

Our cities are working 6 tiles – only 2 of which are unimproved.
We have one worker

Military Summary:
We have 2 military units – both warriors

We have explored 159 tiles – only 5% of the world land mass.
85% of our exploration has been on land – the rest is coastal.

Battles:
So far – we have been attacked by one barbarian, and took only 1 damage point.
We are back to full health (and I’m not sure what C_H did until I get the next turn)

Current Plans in Motion:

Unless otherwise instructed…
I plan to use our worker to connect TBA to Athens
I plan to continue our current mode of exploration
I plan to wipe out the barbarian nuisance with our warrior

Request for Action:
Ministers! Please give me your orders for the next turn in the “Instructions for the President” thread!

Until next time,
I remain your faithful servant,

President General W
:salute:

State of the Empire
Presidential Update

Turn: 21
Year: 3000 BC

Friends, Greeks, Fellow MIAers… the state of our Empire is: Victorious

Domestic Summary:
We have 2 cities, 10 gold, and 19 culture.

We are set 90% science, 10% Luxury, and 0% Economy – for a Net gain of 0 gold per turn.

We are currently building:
Athens: Settler – 2 turns
TBA: Warrior – 8 turns

Our cities are working 6 tiles – only 2 of which are unimproved.

We have one worker – I have moved him to a bonus grassland West of Athens, to begin working on mining and roading.

Military Summary:
We have 2 military units – both warriors

We have explored 167 tiles – only 5.2% of the world land mass.
84.4% of our exploration has been on land – the rest is coastal.

Battles:
Hopefully Defense Minister Classical_Hero will forgive me for interpreting his orders a bit liberally…

But both Barbarian warriors were fortified in their positions, and between our warrior and Athens. I was concerned that if I tried to lure the warriors North-west, they might head South-East to Athens, and I'd never catch them… so I ordered the Attack!

Our glorious warrior destroyed one of the Barbarians without losing a single HP! Sweet Victory! Unfortunately, no promotion was gained. 1 Barbarian still lurks…

Our Northernmost Warrior advanced further North, and has revealed another goodyhut.

Current Plans in Motion:
Unless otherwise instructed…
I plan to use our worker to begin mining and roading the bonus grassland at Athens
I plan to continue our current mode of exploration
I plan to hunt down and destroy the remaining barbarian nuisance.

Request for Action:
Ministers! Please give me your orders for the next turn in the “Instructions for the President” thread!

Specifically:
What to do with the hut?
What order to improve the Athens terrain? (road first? Mine first?)

Until next time,
I remain your faithful servant,

President General W
:salute:

Sorry if that was unclear in my post - The other warrior is at full health, just east of the hill where he was.

Unfortunately - I don't have a screenshot for that - but I'll get one next turn.

i believe that this thread is just for state of the nation report

>discussions should be posted to the relevant minister or a new thread started ... good stuff in your post though

Yeah - @ Chamnix, This is great stuff - but really should be posted in the Domestic (and some in the Defense) threads.

Everyone should feel free to respond to the "State of the Empire" thread with questions or requests for more info about what's presented here... but discussion of what to do should be kept to the ministy threads! IMHO.

But again - good stuff. Lots to chew on.

State of the Empire
Presidential Update

Turn: 22
Year: 2950 BC

Friends, Greeks, Fellow MIAers… the state of our Empire is: Surrounded

Domestic Summary:

We have 2 cities, 10 gold, and 21 culture.

We are set 90% science, 10% Luxury, and 0% Economy – for a Net gain of 0 gold per turn.

We are currently building:
Athens: Settler (done next turn - masked)
The Black Hole: Worker (done in 7 turns)

Our cities are working 6 tiles – only 2 of which are unimproved.

We have one worker – he is now roading the Bonus Grassland.

Our Ivory Coast:

Our Mainland:

NOTE 1: TBA has finally recieved a name: "The Black Hole" (Citizens rejoyce)
NOTE 2: I’ve added some proposed geographic location names. Comments? Suggestions? Additions?

Military Summary:
We have 2 military units – both warriors

We have explored 171 tiles – only 5.3% of the world land mass.
84.8% of our exploration has been on land – the rest is coastal.

Battles:
Our northern Warrior popped the hut- and unleashed a horde of angry Assyrian Barbarian Warriors!

Current Plans in Motion:

Unless otherwise instructed…
I plan to head for the “red dot” location with our settler
I plan to build another Warrior in Athens
I plan to attack the remaining Barbarian with our Western Warrior
I plan to Fortify and Heal with our Northern Warrior (if damaged by Assyrians)

Request for Action:
Ministers! Please give me your orders for the next turn in the “Instructions for the President” thread!

We will have our settler next turn – the current consensus seems to be what has been known as “the red dot” location… pictured here…

Is there where we want city #3? If not, I need to know BEFORE the next turn!

What battle plan do you want against the Northern Assyrian Barbarians, and the remaining Western barbarian?

Should Athens begin work on another Warrior after the settler is done?

Until next time,
I remain your faithful servant,

President General W
:salute:

This presentation format is superb! Beautiful screenshots, a concise summary of planned actions, (and contingencies) I applaud your efforts. Thank you so much. I hope others who agree will refrain from posting in this thread - I just wanted to get it on the record.

State of the Empire
Presidential Update

Turn: 23
Year: 2900 BC

Friends, Greeks, Fellow MIAers… the state of our Empire is: Invaded!

Headlines:
* New section – for brief mention of items of major import.

Scientists predict discovery of Iron Working next turn!

Invasion! We have a barbarian warrior invading our land near the undefended city of “The Black Hole”!! Citizens are beginning to panic.

Victory! Western Greek forces eliminate the last of the western barbarian threat.

Domestic Summary:

We have 2 cities, 10 gold, and 23 culture.

We are set 90% science, 10% Luxury, and 0% Economy – for a Net gain of 0 gold per turn.

We are currently building:
Athens: Worker (done in 4 turns) Settler built this turn.
Black Hole: Worker (done in 6 turns)

Our cities are working 5 tiles – only 1 of which are unimproved.

We have one worker – he is still roading the Bonus Grassland.

Research: Iron Working should be gained next turn.

Note: Screenshot is wrong on Athens build time & IW research time. After taking the screenshot, I switched one citizen from working the Forrest (1food, 2shileds, 1gold) to the irrigated, roaded wheat square (5food, 0shield, 2gold) – this will allow us to complete IW one turn sooner, and accelerate growth for getting our next settler. Also allows more time to decide on warrior vs. worker vs. curragh build in Athens)

Military Summary:

We have 2 military units – both warriors

We have explored 176 tiles – only 5.5% of the world land mass.
85.2% of our exploration has been on land – the rest is coastal.

We have a barbarian warrior 2 squares from the undefended city of “The Black Hole”!!
Our nearest warrior is 6 tiles away. (ie… way to far to be any good)

Battles:
Our northern Warrior has retreated to the safety of the forest. (It was not attacked, and moving to the forest gives the same 25% defensive bonus as fortifying. Plus, now, only one barbarian can possibly attack next turn, instead of all 3. Our warrior is still between the Assyrian Barbarians and our cities if the Military advisor decides he’d like to attack.)

Victory! Our western Warrior defeated the last of the western Barbarians. We lost one hitpoint, and were not promoted.

Current Plans in Motion:

Unless otherwise instructed…
I plan to heal our western warrior and continue exploring along the Ivory Coast.
I plan to continue building a worker in Athens
I plan to weep as the barbarians sack Black Hole. (What else can we do?)
I plan to Fortify our Northern Warrior in the forest and wait to see what the Assyrians do.
I plan to keep moving our settler to the Ivory/Blue Dot location.
Request for Action:
Ministers! Please give me your orders for the next turn in the “Instructions for the President” thread!

What can we do (if anything?) about the impending sacking of Black Hole?

Should we be more aggressive with the Assyrians in the North?

Should Athens be building a worker or a warrior? (In light of our impending lesson in surprise attacks – I’m wondering if it might be a good idea to have some local military forces for future reference?)

Perhaps we should start the naming debate for city #3 now?!?

Until next time,
I remain your faithful servant,

President General W
:salute:
EDIT: PS - thank you PeterG, I appreciate the kind words. Hope the rest of the team finds these useful also.

State of the Empire
Presidential Update

Turn: 24
Year: 2850 BC

Friends, Greeks, Fellow MIAers… the state of our Empire is: Militarizing!

Headlines:
2 Iron deposits discovered!

The barbarian hordes continue their advance…

Military production ramps up – warriors being built in all cities…

Domestic Summary:

We have 2 cities, 10 gold, and 25 culture.

We are set 90% science, 10% Luxury, and 0% Economy – for a Net gain of 0 gold per turn.

We are currently building:
Athens: Warrior (done in 3 turns).
Black Hole: Warrior (done in 2 turns)

Our cities are working 6 tiles – 2 of which are unimproved.

We have one worker – he is done roading the Bonus Grassland. Will start mining next turn.

Research: Started work on the Wheel. Est time: 11 turns

Iron was discovered in 2 places
1) Just north and west of the proposed city #3 location
2) Underneath the hills where our Northern Warrior is keeping an eye on the Assyrian Barbarians.

Military Summary:

We have 2 military units – both warriors

We have explored 177 tiles – only 5.5% of the world land mass.
85.3% of our exploration has been on land – the rest is coastal.

We have a barbarian warrior 1 square from the undefended city of “The Black Hole.”

We have 3 Assyrian warriors lurking in the north. our warrior has taken the high ground, and is watching for Assyrian movement.

Our northern Warrior has moved to the high ground of the Iron Hills. (I thought it important to get a view of the land around this strategic Iron deposit. IF the military advisor orders it, we should still be able to attack one of the Assyrians next turn.)

Battles:
None this turn.

Current Plans in Motion:

Unless otherwise instructed…
I plan to head north with our Northern Warrior, and see if we can lead the Assyrian barbarians up that way.
I plan to begin mining the bonus grassland outside of Athens.
I plan to heal our Western Warrior for one turn (from the new hill vantage point) and then continue exploring.

Request for Action:
Ministers! Please give me your orders for the next turn in the “Instructions for the President” thread!

Do we want to get the wheel still – now that we now we have plenty of Iron? Would something else be a better choice?

Should we attack the Assyrians in the North? Or try to lead them further North?

Should we adjust where we were planning to build city #3 to grab the Iron instead?

Until next time,
I remain your faithful servant,

President General W

State of the Empire
Presidential Update

Turn: 25
Year: 2800 BC

Friends, Greeks, Fellow MIAers… the state of our Empire is: Searching!

Headlines:
Black Hole Sacked! Hundreds dead. Brave citizens protect treasury and production.

Where Are they?!? Assyrian Barbarians go Missing!

Thar She Blows! Whales discovered off the Ivory Coast?

Domestic Summary:

We have 2 cities, 10 gold, and 27 culture.

We are set 90% science, 10% Luxury, and 0% Economy – for a Net gain of 0 gold per turn.

We are currently building:
Athens: Worker (done in 2 turns). *Growth Next turn.
Black Hole: Warrior (done in 3 turns)

Our cities are working 5 tiles – 1 of which is unimproved.

We have one worker – he begun to mine the Bonus Grassland. ETA: 6 turns

Research: Continued work on the Wheel. Est time: 11 turns

* Note production time on the warrior increased, and research time stayed the same due to the sacking of Black Hole.

Military Summary:

We have 2 military units – both warriors

We have explored 189 tiles – only 5.9% of the world land mass.
85.2% of our exploration has been on land – the rest is coastal.

We have 3 Assyrian warriors lurking in the north. Our warrior could no longer see them from on the hill, and came down to go look for them – but no sign of them. Perhaps they heard of the valiant resistance in Black Hole and went North? Maybe they’re looking for a fight and headed for Black Hole?

Our Western warrior is taking a much needed break after slaughtering 3 barbarians – to get back to full health. Will commence exploring next turn.

Battles:
Barbarians sacked Black Hole. We lost 1 pop – but no gold and no production shields.

Current Plans in Motion:

Unless otherwise instructed…
I plan to head north with our Northern Warrior, and see if I can locate the Assyrian barbarians.
I plan to build our 3rd city on the Ivory to the West of Athens. It will be named “CivGeneral” unless I get a better name from CivGeneral.
I plan to continue exploring the Ivory Coast with our Western Warrior.

Request for Action:
Ministers! Please give me your orders for the next turn in the “Instructions for the President” thread!

If we move the proposed location of city 3 to the South-West one square, we would immediately have access to the fish, and eventually to the Whale. We would lose the immediate Ivory, but would give Athens more breathing room – edit: but would 4 moves (3 tiles) away = little harder for defense. What do you think? (I’ll still build on Ivory if that’s the popular will –obviously)

Should we look for the Assyrians in the North? Or should we look South – in case they’re headed for us?

Should our next worker help with the mining of the Bonus Grassland? Start roading to Black Hole? Start roading to City #3? Something else?

I have sent you a reply PM on naming my city Heron, nameing it after the Greek engineer and geometer, the Hero of Alexandria. He is most well known for his work on the aeolipile and other works in the classical era that were centuries ahead of his time :).

More information about the man I am naming my city after :)

Turn: 26
Year: 2760 BC

Friends, Greeks, Fellow MIAers… the state of our Empire is: Expanding!

Headlines:
City of Heron founded! National Holiday declared in celebration.
(Big props to Founding citizen, CivGeneral, for such a great name!)

Working Class Expands. New workers set out from Athens.

Lost in the Mists… Still no sign of the Assyrian barbarins.

Domestic Summary:

We have 3 cities, 10 gold, and 29 culture.

We are set 100% science, 0% Luxury, and 0% Economy – for a Net gain of 0 gold per turn.

We are currently building:
Athens: Warrior (done in 2 turns).
Black Hole: Warrior (done in 2 turns)
Heron: Curragh (done in 8 turns)

Our cities are working 7 tiles – 2 of which are unimproved.

We have two workers –
Athens Worker1: Mining the Bonus Grassland. ETA: 5 turns
Athens Worker 2: In place to begin work on another BG.

Research: Continued work on the Wheel. Est time: 9 turns

* Note I was able to boost science to 100%. This can last till Black Hole grows.

Military Summary:

We have 2 military units – both warriors

We have explored 191 tiles – only 6% of the world land mass.
85.3% of our exploration has been on land – the rest is coastal.

We have 3 Assyrian warriors lurking in the north. Our warrior is heading north looking – but no sign of them.

Our Western warrior has begun exploring again – no new terrain revealed yet.

Battles:
None

Current Plans in Motion:

Unless otherwise instructed…
I plan to continue exploring with both our Warriors.
I plan to road the BG west of Athens

Request for Action:
Ministers! Please give me your orders for the next turn in the “Instructions for the President” thread!

I think it would be beneficial to road the BG before mining it. 1) Commerce bonus and 2) The other worker can arrive to help with the mine 2 turns sooner. Comments?

Should our warriors focus their exploration in any specific directions? Hug the coast? Stay inland? Directly North? Diagonal?

What should Black Hole build after completing it's warrior in 2 turns?

Until next time,

I agree. Unless there is a production rush that affects mine timing, I would think roading first is always better. If memory serves, Chamnix's spreadsheet had some of that laid out. I'll check.

Headlines:
Barbarians Sighted in the Jungles of the North!

Mining Operations Underway all around Athens.

Domestic Summary:

We have 3 cities, 10 gold, and 31 culture.

We are set 100% science, 0% Luxury, and 0% Economy – for a Net gain of 0 gold per turn.

We are currently building:

Heron: Curragh (done in 7 turns)

Our cities are working 7 tiles – 2 of which are unimproved.

We have two workers –
Worker – Rambuchan: Mining the BG east of Athens. ETA: 4 turns
Worker - Jarom: Began mining the BG west of Athens. ETA: 6 turns
*note: workers now being named for team members in reverse order of joining

Research: Continued work on the Wheel. Est time: 7 turns
* Note: we knocked anther turn off our research time when I switched one Citizen in Athens to working the wheat tile.

Military Summary:

We have 2 military units – both warriors

We have explored 194 tiles – only 6.1% of the world land mass.
84% of our exploration has been on land – the rest is coastal.

We have 3 Assyrian warriors lurking in the north.
1 of them has been sighted by our northern warrior.

Our Western warrior is still exploring, per orders, along the coast.

Battles:
None

Current Plans in Motion:

Unless otherwise instructed…
I plan to continue exploring with both our Warriors.
I plan to start work on a worker in Black Hole after the warrior is finished.

Request for Action:
Ministers! Please give me your orders for the next turn in the “Instructions for the President” thread!

Current Military orders are to explore along the coast. With Curraghs about to roll off the line, might it be better to explore further inland with our warriors?

Current orders to look for the barbarian camp near Black Hole with our next warrior will necessitate raising the Lux Rate to 10% (at least). Discussion?

The Northern Assyrian warrior is fortified, and has favorable terrain… how do we proceed?

Unless otherwise instructed…
I plan to switch 1 Athenian citizen to working the ivory tile (from working the wheat).
I plan to head north with our Northern Warrior to the Northern Mountain.
I plan to continue exploring the Ivory Coast with our Western Warrior.
I plan to leave our 3rd warrior in Black Hole for Military Police duties until the worker is completed – or we get a road connected.

Request for Action:
Ministers! Please give me your orders for the next turn in the “Instructions for the President” thread!

Please advise domestic on settler-warrior factory decision.
