Statecraft and Duplicity

Now now, as Jehoshua would surely say, Patience Virtua est. And As Tambien will say, RL is a pain in the neck if you choose to live on CFC, otherwise, you choose RL over people you don't even know.
Oh and both of them would put a ;) in as well.

It has been a quiet 10 years for the people of Mecca. Emissaries from the Mongol Empire arrived five years ago, and have asked for a delegation to be sent to the Kahn in Karakorum. Technological breakthroughs in the form of fishing and hunting have been made by the Imperial Science Division, and many people find faith in the future of the Arabian people.

The appointment of many citizens to positions of authority, even though they would not be accorded the benefits of nobleship, have made the people love Ibn Abi Ishaq even more. They trust him to lead them into a glorious future.

IC Issues:
Will a delegation be sent to Mongolia?
If so, who will lead it?

I'll lead a delegation to Mongolia if I get Mecca 15.

As there is no Foreign Minister, I would like to nominate myself, the Minister of Protection, as leader of the delegation.

My people have always loved the bounty of the sea. If Mecca 7 is not spoken for, my house would be happy to work it.

Also, in my capacity as domestic advisor I need to advise our noble leader. I am thinking the Arab people would benefit from a worker. What do you guys think?

Spoiler background :

Hassan returned from the public square of the city, feeling proud and surprised. He did not expect for this to happen, let alone so soon. He began to imagine many different outcomes of what he saw in his future, the rise of his house, the legacy he would build, the eternal life given by the future generations. Hassan dreamed until he reached his modest home, where his wife, Loisha, was waiting for her.

She had already heard the news, and she waited for Hassan at the door, with a big smile across her face.
"how is the baby?" Hassan asked after they embraced.
"He's fine," she said.
"I'm guessing you have already heard the news? I was chosen."
"We must thank Allah," Loisha said looking at one of the carved idols on a shelf, "When do you start your new duty?"
"It has already begun, we are moving downtown tomorrow. Everything is going to change after tomorrow. Looks like the gods have smiled upon us...

Public Speech

People of Arabia, I, Hassan Ibn-La Ahad, accept the enormous responsibility of being a server and public figure of Arabia. I will work in full cooperation with our leader Ibn Abi Ishaq and the wise advisers, and with their help I will overcome the ignorance that I may once had as a peasant. Our empire will expand, our culture will flourish and our gods will be worshiped across the world. May the gods lead us into a bright, honorable future.

Now, to business. To those volunteering to travel to the far away lands of Mongolia as leader of the delegation, I must ask, why must you receive land created by god as a requirement to travel to this delegation? Land must be a reward to those who have proven themselves worthy. Not even I, chosen to this respectable position, have been awarded such a luxury yet. Prove yourself at the delegation, whoever our leader chooses, and you may be rewarded with land. Remember, we are in these positions for the improvement of our people, not ourselves.

Now, I will retire to discuss the future of our city projects with our leader and advisers. Until then, رحم الله عليكم

IC

I, Abdulrahman Al Hashim look upon the state of Arabia with some dissapointment. It appears that during a period of lethargy the political life of the country has languished. I may not be a politican, but it is clear that as of now there is no substantial debate on the big picture plan, the overarching destination to which our empire seeks to travel and the public debate of the polity is woefully inadequate.

As such I have decided to, in lieu of the obligation of a citizen to serve the greater good of the state to request an advisory position, in particular in the foreign affairs portfolio so that my not insubstantial ability in the area od diplomacy can be put to use by the state. His Grace would be well advised to accede to my proposal, as in visiting foreign heads of state, others may come to Makkah and require a diplomatic touch, and certain notable individuals can attest that in terms of administrative work, and in regards to foreign affairs, I have more than a little aptitude..

Furthermore on another matter, I would like to advocate for the establishment an religious advisory, to ensure that the empire retains the favour of the divinities, and to provide the means of exhorting the people on the path of righteousness and good morals. Such an advisorys work amongst the commons I think would do much to help in the development of the empire in addition to lowering crime and ensuring due respect for lawful, divinely ordained, authority.

ooc: It's been a few years since I studied Latin..
ic:
Ibn Abi Ishaq sat in his palace, wondering. The people of Arabia were happy, and the city was in a period of growth. He was satisfied with how he had brought his people together. He was not, however, shocked or surprised that a few ambitious souls wanted land in return for visiting the Mongols as an embassy.
Ah, the Mongols, he thought to himself. Beautiful yet savage at the same time, at once loyal and individualistic, at once cruel and cooperative. He had liked what he had heard about the Khan of the Mongols- although not appointed by God, he too had brought his people together in a time of need- and wanted to meet the man himself. Of course, this was an impossibility, as he could hardly leave his duties for an hour, let alone the months or even years that would be needed to find the way to Mongolia.
He had heard that many people wanted to go of course. There was a sort of fame and glory to be had. He would be more than willing to give these people land but he was afraid of them growing selfish and using the land to their own ends, without thinking of the people as a whole first. He would need to see proof that they were willing to sacrifice everything for the people as a whole.
So it turned out that they had chosen an appropriate quest after all. He would choose a few men to lead the expedition to Mongolia in the name of the Arabian people.
He went out to his balcony, where people were already gathered. He still wasn't used to the large crowds all staring directly at him, expecting him to be the perfect leader. "O divine God, help me to speak to them, and I pray that I'm not making a huge mistake" he prayed under his breath. And then he took a deep breath and began his speech.
"People of Makkah! You have known me to be a capable leader for ten years! On this tenth anniversary of me appointment to the difficult, yet honorable post I hold today, I wish for volunteers to go on a mission to bring embassy to the Mongolian people to learn what we can from them. Beware, those of you who go, for while you will receive glory, you also will spend long months or even years away from you wives, families, everybody you know. We need people of wit, we need people of strength, we need people who are gifted in all sorts of things to come. Those of you who wish to volunteer themselves, meet at the city center in two hours, so that I may address you with gratitude. Thank you, my people. Thank you, my God."

OOC: Two things, one, Tambien, I think the chance of me having a child should be upped since not siring either a daughter or a son in 10 years is kinda embarrassing in the era. Most eras, actually. Two, I wanted to be sure that my land is still being used for the good of the people or do I have to donate the ulma from the tile to the treasury?

OOC: Religious advisory has been established, I thought, with Civ'ed heading that.

ooc: Mining, Horseback Riding, either Pottery or the Wheel, Polytheism, Meditation, Archery, and Masonry I think.

ooc: I thought I had! As in at the beginning of the marriage, I thought it was a given. And I donate the 7 from the land to the State's treasury.

ooc: Since I did not know that, can it be retroactive? If not, than immediately.

I'll lead a delegation to Mongolia if I get Mecca 15.

I'm happy to let METY lead the delegation. I still want Mecca 15 for the al-Yamani. :)
