Always keep inmind we men built civillization and acheived much culturally. What did the women do? Definetly not as much but then again that is probaly because we didn't let them
Without women, there would not be anyone here today :p.

I can't possibly speak for ALL men but I can refute those as applies to myself or the men I know.

Why do alot of people portray men as lazy, stupid, inferior beings who drink beer and sit on the couch watching TV all day?
Not me. I spend most of my time hunched in front of a computer. Eating delivered fast food. :p
LLXerxes said:
Why does everybody assume guys want sex in a relationship and nothing else?
Because it's true. :groucho: The fact that I enjoy her company is just a bonus.
LLXerxes said:
Why does everybody say guys never think and will singlehandedly lead to the end of mankind? (heh, that one is more likely than the others, ttytt)
On the contrary, we think too much. That's why we now have a collective nuclear arsenal capable of wiping out the world many times over. ;)

Why if we never evolved away from primitive matriarchal societies I'd say the world would have seen lots of diplomatic wrangling and scheming but few actual wars.

*War!*
"Aaaaagh!!!" *Clang! Bash!*
"Ow! My hair!" "Eww! I broke a nail!"
"Time out! Time out!" "Truce!"
*War ends.*

Realistically is because men have always been portrayed as the more savage and barbaric within our species

That's not correct. In fact 200 years ago the oppression of both women and negros was justified with the argument that they were like children. Still more animal than man they were controlled by savage emotions and not by discipline and reason like the white man. This was the reasoning behind the infamous "white man's burden".

Discipline and self-control are classic masculine virtues.

And I don't think many women are insulted by "female stereotypes" either. They're only jokes, so laugh.

What kind of females did you encounter in your life ?

About the topic : the answers in the poll don't fit at all with the question. I believe that several "gender stereotypes" are much truer than most people will admit.
But the "I are dumb", though funny in the formulation, has quite nothing to do with "masculine stereotypes", which are rather on the "boastful and obsessed by sex" side.

Oh you are in so much trouble now, hope there's no women reading this thread.

@ LLXerxes
Seriously, these things used to bother me a lot.

Once you get to know yourself better you'll be more confident and comfortable with the pressures feminism puts on you. Also, if you research history you'll understand why these pressures were brought about.

Stereotypes should be recognized for what they are: sweeping generalisations that never describe an individual accurately or completely.

I'm not trying to slander women, or glorify men or something, but come on guys. Do you really think so little of you're selves? Does anybody else here think men are capable of proving much more? That men are smart, complex beings capable of proving many things, and not just hinderances? Or am I just watching my future and friends turn into crap?

In my opinion, these are all myths invented by women to slander men, because women prefer to spread gossip than confront problems directly.

The only exception is that men really are largely interested in sex and little else. However, that's more a misdirection than a falsehood. In my opinion, women are even MORE interested in sex than men. They are just far more discreet about it, whereas a man is more direct.

Oh well. Men historically have been the ones doing all the work anyway. Only in the last century did the female gender actually do much of interest.

I can't say I've ever met a straight militant feminist.

It's very odd since you never see any gay men that hate women.
I have, my mother and myself being two of them. You don't have to be female to be a feminist (providing that you consider feminism's goal the equality of men and women, and not women's superiority).

As to the question, I refuse to use stereotypes.
imo, most men aren't worth a ... but there are some brilliant exceptions.
I'm under the impression the popular media, especially womens magazines enforce these streotypes (both male and female). And that's sad.

That's what separates feminists from militant feminists, is whether they believe the sexes are equal or females are superior.

Seriously, did you ever feel insulted by a "male stereotype"? I certainly have not. And I don't think many women are insulted by "female stereotypes" either.
I was recently rather insulted by a "male stereotype", viz. the one saying that a man who does not like football* is necessarily gay.

And I know for a fact that many women are insulted by "female stereotypes".

* By football, of course, I mean the real thing, and not the sissy game that goes by the name in America.

Define "lots of people".
 Many people.

Everybody?
Alright, not EVERYBODY but alot of people.

Maybe for some men but not all of them. I'm not a horny lazy freak who drinks beer and goes to stripper... places.

Define "many women" :p
Why laugh when people tell me I'm going to grow up to:
  1. Grow up to be a smoker and druggy
  2. Gain weight and lose my hair
  3. Become an alcohaulic
  4. Catch 3 types of AIDS because I take interest in "hookers"
  5. Will get arrested by age 47

'Cause that's what men are good at? :)

I don't pretend to have the answers. Too many men smoke, drink, and don't wash enough. I think this stereotype has roots in historical global (man) vs. domestic (woman) spheres of influence: the latter provided recurring access to things such as cupboards, soap, &c. whereas the former was exceedingly rustic.

In modern times men have access to all the same resources, but historic heroes/ideals undermine the importance of using them.

* voted for I am man and I think I are dumb *

But - you know - this should not indicate that I believe most women are smarter than me :)

You can either put lots of effort into keeping thin, or you can accept the inevitable.

BTW, not everyone loses their hair. Some people just go grey.

That just means you'll go to university at some point.
Catch 3 types of AIDS because I take interest in "hookers"
Is it good aids or bad aids? :hmm:
