stErzNES - If first you don't succeed, try try again

Erez: I wrote a story on post 69! Why didn't I get a bonus?

The high-king was pleased, the conquest almost completed. Manannan's blessing would now bestow Eire (I just found out I was using the Gaelic for Irish instead of for Ireland, so if at all possible, please change the name of my country to Eire), as His isle was under Erin control. The Dragon peoples to the southeast still lay to be brought under the Erin flag, and the roling hills of clovers in the west remained uncontroled, but much had been gained. Still, Eire was to weak and her neighbors to strong. The navy inadequate to honor the prestige of the god who ruled Douglas and all of that fair isle, Manannan.
Cormac Mac Art paced the floor of the temple outside of Newgrange. Deep in thought he was notemplating his thoughts. Suddenly one line from the Song of Amergin spoke from some place deep within, "I am the wind that blows upon the sea." The meaning of this instantly came to the high-king. Eire must learn to traverse the sea, but not only that, they must learn to fast and desisive. They must be like wind that blows upon the sea, using the waters as a highway, and yet seemingly completely seperate. Making their way despite whatever the forces the sea pushed on them. They needed to turn to the sea, but also learn how to navigate it without bowing to the whims of currents and tides.

President Saraz of Cyprus looked proudly over Nicosia's little harbour as another galley filled with families set out from the homeland to colonize Anatolia. But worry tinged his pride. Barbarians in the new lands constantly threatened the settlements, and defense was needed desparately. And Saraz had an idea.

Summoning the council of Cyprus, the president presented his plan. The plan was an ingenious invention that had come at just the right time. It was new gear for the army, specifically, the spearmen. Instead of bearing a spearhead on the end of the shaft, there was a great mass of spikes. The weapon would stab into an enemy, then cause terrible damage as it is pulled out. It could also strike someone on the side, causing nearly as much damage and terrible pain. These soldiers would also wear plate armour on their shoulders and chest, and spiked helmets.

The council voted unamimously to test the new weaponwas very impressed. It quickly became clear that it was much more powerful than a typical spear. It was over twice as effective in defensive situations, but the same as a normal spear on the offensive.

With this awesome new weapon in Cyprus' arsenal, expansion can now continue unthreatened by minor barbarians. The people of the growing nation of Cyprus can now feel secure in the defense of these mighty soldiers.

OOC: Cyprus' unique units are simply called 'Defenders'. They are 2-3 times more effective then spearmen on the defensive, and are skilled defenders wherever they are. They are armed and armoured as described in the story.

The Bharut Tale: Arjuna among his warriors

The sound of hooves in the training grounds woke Arjuna from his sleep. His vision blurred for a moment or two before I sat up straight and looked around.

“There was something I was supposed to do but what was it” he thought to himself as he sat on the edge of his bed

He had slept in the military barracks because he had spent all day training the horsemen. It was pathetic how they fought and still thought they were good. Insane was more like it but he had to do what he had to do. Things were moving smoothly, the market was setting up nicely in the capital of Bharut and their expansion south was under way, nothing could go wrong. Well that is what he hoped.
He got to his feet and drew away the flaps of his tent, grabbing a spear from the rack on his right and then walking towards the small corral where the men were “training”.

“You there!, what are these men doing playing the fool” demanded Arjuna as he came up to the stable keeper, who was looking onto the horsemen with a disappointed look on his face.

“Lord Arjuna, please forgive me I tried to tell them to stop this nonsense but they would not listen my Lord” pleaded the stable keeper

Arjuna flipped his spear over and planted it into the ground before he opened the corral gate and stepped in. Apparently the horsemen thought it would be fun to ride around on their horses throwing small rock from one person to the next.

“Stop!!” Arjuna screamed as he stepped in front of one of the horsemen, who was running at full speed and had to stop his horse immediately to avoid running into Arjuna, making him fly off of it and into the ground “and WHAT do you think you all are doing, when I left last night I gave specific order that you were to continue your drills and yet I find you here, prancing around on your ponies playing hot potato with a rock!”

“But my Lord we were only playing we were…”

“Get up now!” Arjuna grabbed him by the collar and dragged him to his feet “now for up lines get me my horse and start those drills!”

(ooc- horsemen from rabble to tolerable if im not mistaken and i hope im not)
