Update Turn 4
Surprise attack in Kamchatka! The United States launched a surprise invasion of the USSR from Alaska into Soviet Kamchatka. The American force was massive, but underestimated the Russian force they would be fighting. The Russian Far East Army, comprising 1/4 of the total Soviet military, was sent to meet the oncoming Americans. The Americans took most of Kamchatka before being stopped along the Kolyma river. Russian air power, which had been accumulated in Vladivostok since World War II to defend against possible Chinese, Japanese, or American agression, battled it out with the American Air Force. Neither side achieved air superiority, although Russian bombers were able to strike American ground forces and take out several Russian bridges, which helped to slow the American advance.
Chinese show Communist solidarity! In response to the American invasion of Russia, the People's Republic of China has declared war and attacked American territory in Korea and the Philippines. While American forces in Korea had better equipment and training than the Chinese, China used its massive numbers (over 1,000,000 attacking an American force of about 30,000) in a "human wave" attack that finally dislodged the Americans and forced them to retreat farther south. More than 3/4 of the peninsula is now under Chinese control. In the Philippines, Chinese Marines landed in northern Luzon, taking nearly half the island before running into dug-in American and Philippino defenders.
Jamaica, Haiti taken in retaliation for Kamchatka invasion! Soviet troops in Cuba, supported by the Air Force and Navy, launched invasions of American-controlled Jamaica and Hispaniola. Jamaica, which even under America aid was in a financial decline and was filled with rebel sentiments, quickly fell to Soviet Marines, while America was able to hold the Dominican Republic from Soviet tanks and infantry. At the same time, a small group of Soviet bombers atacked the American city of Jacksonville, Florida, killing a number of civilians in retaliation for those killed in the American shelling and bombing of several Kamchatkan cities.
Japan reclaims pre-war territory! In a shocking show of Japan's rebuilt military meet, Japan took total control of Taiwan. The Imperial Navy easilly smashed the Taiwanese fleet (mostly commandeered and outdated Chinese vessels), and gave artillery support to Imperial Marines as they took Taiwan's port cities. The Imperial Army was then brought in via the secured ports, and went on to conquer the whole island. The Taiwanese government has been destroyed.[/b]
Peace in the Middle East! Peace sweeps through the Middle East as Israel makes peace with the USSR and Arabia, and Iran makes peace with the USSR. Egypt continued its invasion of Israel, but the Israeli troops now freed up from other fronts have been sent to the southwest and are now fighting the Egyptians.
Uneasy peace in Ireland. The Irish Revolution officially ended, with Britain recognizing the new nation in return for the 6 counties of Ulster (Northern Ireland.) Many Irish living in Ulster have voiced their anger over the British "occupation," and it is feared that violence may soon break out again; not between the Irish and British armies, but between Loyalist (Protestant) and Republican (Catholic) citizens in Ulster's cities.
Shooting breaks out over Iron Curtain! With tensions high after the American invasion of Russia, NATO and Warsaw Pact troops along the Iron Curtain were on edge. Several incidents occured in which rifle and other small-arms fire was volleyed across the Russian borders with Greece, Turkey, and Scandinavia. Nobody is sure who initaited the firefights, but nobody was harmed and the nations are not at war.
Iran at war again! In a show of unprovoked, opportunistic aggression, Iraq has declared war on Iran! Iraqi troops stormed across the Iranian border in the south, moving unopposed as most Iranian troops were still in the north after the Russo-Iranian War. The city of Esfahan quickly fell, and Iraqi forces stopped there to regroup. It is feared that Iran in desperation may use nuclear force against Iraq.
Atom Bombs south of the border! Mexico builds its first two atomic bombs.
In time of war, Warsaw Pact grows! Italy and Ireland have joined the Warsaw Pact. Ireland has declared war on the United States in accord with its treaty obligations.
America, Israel, and Taiwan form Free World Pact! The Free World Pact, an alliance dedicated to protecting democratic governments around the world, has been formed by the United States and its non-NATO allies. This was Taiwan's last political act before its demise at Japanese hands.
Ethnic tensions in British India! In India, as Britain approaches a possible war with Iraq in Iran or the Soviet Union in support of America, several ethnic minorities have voiced strong opposition to British (and Indian) rule. In the west, primarilly Muslim Pakistanis are beginning to become unhappy with Britain and the Hindu majority in India. Several religious fundamentalist groups in Pakistan, Kashmir, and even Russian Afghanistan have stated that they will carry out a terror war against Britain if Pakistanis do not receieve equality with the Indian majority. Meanwhile, in Sri Lanka, the Tamil minority has taken up arms against the ethnic Indians who inhabit the island. As yet, no attempt has been made to overthrow British rule, but rather only to force the Indian population off the island.
