The wet streets of Mandalay glistened after a refreshing spring rain, as peasants carrying sacks of rice trudged through the alleyways and avenues delivering it to the market to make their meager living. The grand jungles that had once surrounded the city had been struck down to the ground to make room for farms and the ever expanding mass that was the capital of Burma. The Inawaddy River flowed magnificently through the capital, and on its banks stood the grandest buildings of the whole Empire. The towering palace and the houses of the greatest, richest nobles in the land lined the banks of the river, a sharp contrast to the buildings of the commoners just blocks away.
However, on the frontier, things were much different. People were struggling simply to survive, still barely keeping up a good crop of food. But these people were optimistic. Everyday, the frontier kept expanding, which meant more food, more farmland, and more resources. The Burmese people were a stout, optimistic people, who could withstand much hardship, especially in the testing depths of the jungle. The Burmese people knew how to survive through the toughest of times, they knew how to perservere, and they were ready to apply this survival knowledge whenever necessary. Thus was the nature of the Burmese people.
The Emperor, being wise as he was, realized the economic plight of the people, and realized that through better infrastructure he could relieve the peasants of their tough burden. Thus he decreed roads be built to reach the furthest reaches of the Burmese Empire.
To: Sinhala (assuming we have contact)
From: Burma
Friends, we greet youand your explorers with open arms. We request that should you expand into the Malay Peninsula that you limit your expansion to just the peninsula. In return, we shall limit our westward expansion towards to just the barbarian tribes on our frontier.
ORDERS:
-Confront Barbarians to the northwest. Use 20 galleys with 200 spearmen and 150 archers to land at the mouth of the Ganges and penetrate northward while 500 spearmen and 400 archers attack directly across the frontier. We will perform a pincer movement, and hoepfully envelop and cut off most of the enemy.
-100 spearmen and 150 archers will keep watch over the rest of the frontier of the empire. the northeast shall be our only great foray this time
-Expand the economy through construction of roads to the outlying areas of Burma
OOC: Why do we give Jason such a hard time about updating? I'm thankful that he updates this frequently or else I couldn't keep up.
Also, Jason, judging by the extent of their naval exploration, I would venture to guess that I have contact with Sinhala?
