stJNES5.2: From the Beginning
Update 7, 1800 B.C.E.

As if out of no where, or perhaps spawned from the defeat in Sumer and the pending invasion of their homeland, the Assyrians convert to a new religion developed in their lands, and apparently had already been practiced by a small minority clan within the Assyrian nation. Sionism appears, and it appears strong. It not only appeals to the Assyrians alike, but also the Sumerians, who were already more then half Zoroastrianism, the religion of Persia. And so, when the other half converted to Sionism, a struggle has begun.

As the Zoroastrians struggle to retain power in the face of a growing Sionist opposition, they begin to enact laws and raids into Sionist holdings, which inevitably conjures up a rebellion within the country. Sionists, consisting of most of the poorer peoples, pit themselves against the high-ranking Zoroastrians in an all out civil war that soon engulfs the nation of Sumer. Reluctant but forced, the King of Sumer withdraws from the Assyrian war and accepts the peace.

Civil war in Sumer has dramatically decreased the flow of trade into Persia, which hampers the growing economy. Without Sumer, the Persians are stuck without a viable trading partner (Gujarat is being invaded), and so the economy suffers as stockpiles increase with nobody to sell them too.

Also in Assyria, the King has ceded some very small amounts of powers to the five great noble families, which has given much more power to the aristocratic elite. While nothing has come of it yet, it does lead to a lot less centralized power.

And now, to war. With the Sumerians effectively out of the war, the Assyrians can put their whole focus on Persia. But the Persians, being effectively much larger, attack from two fronts, both of which the Assyrians could not defend against both. However, they Assyrians had another trick up their sleeves. An alliance once existed between the peoples of Mesopotamia and the highlands, between the Assyrians and the Hittites. The Hittites have come to honor that allegiance. As the Persians advance in the north, they encounter what they believe to be friendly Hittites forces. Instead, the Persian army is flanked without knowing, and effectively slaughtered by Hittite soldiers. Victorious Hittites then move more east, diving into the Persian homeland. (Persia: -1,900 Spearmen, -800 Archers and -1,000 Horsemen; Hittites: -600 Swordsmen, -700 Horsemen)

Meanwhile, the Assyrians take the brunt force of the Persians in the south. Even though the Assyrians possess a larger army, they are continually routed by Persian Immortals, who move as if they were horsemen. Continually the Assyrians are pushed back, the Persians ever identifiable with one of the best fighting forces on earth. But, with their homeland and their supply route in question, will they continue advancing on Assyria? (Assyria: -1,000 Swordsmen, 1,200 Spearmen, -500 Horsemen; Persia: -500 Immortals, -500 Horsemen, -700 Swordsmen)

The Hittites are not just intent on conquering the Assyrians. Along the Levantine coast, the Mitanni also attacked the Assyrians from behind, yet their forces lack equipment and clothing, due to the economic hardship encountered in the country. Most of the men are killed fighting small contingents of Assyrian troops, while the rest are slaughtered by the Hittites who rain upon them from the north. Mitanni soon collapses, along with their famed economy.

Also, the Judeans decide to attack the Assyrians as well, fueled by the economic aid the Persians send. However, a hidden enemy also attacks them. Egypt, long docile yet very powerful and rich, attack into the Sinai for the chance to fully conquer the Judeans. Utterly surprised, the Judeans cancel their attack on Assyria and turn their attention southwards. But their army crumbles too, from lack of economic support. Luckily for them, the Egyptian army turns around just as they are about to reach Jerusalem. Something of utmost importance has come along….

The peoples on the island of Japan are not a peaceful bunch. Wielding the spear and horse, the Japanese expand from Edo and subjugate many of the tribes in the north, who fall easily to the Japanese might. It doesn’t look long before the Japanese come to dominate the island chain (note: I am terrible at writing for eastern civilizations until modern age, sorry :()

Along the thin strip of fertile land, the Carthaginians continue their advance. The Tripolitians, tired and pessimistic, are pursued from both sides. The siege of Tripoli begins with a completely demoralized Trypolae force holding the walls against both sides. The Carthaginians are completely sure of themselves, and finally the city surrenders, the people did so in order to save their city from destruction. The trade continues, and with lower tariffs. (-1,000 Spearmen, -500 Archers, -4 Siege)

To the empire that spawns the waves, the Antigotians begin enacting a law that all ports must meet a certain set of standards. Across the whole nation, the ports are given a face-lift, much needed to that effect. Cyprus is soon turned into just one huge port, with hundreds of small harbor and ports are created along the island. However, one large port has yet to be recognized, and the population of the island remains low.

While the Egyptian army was in the north, fighting the Judeans, enemies land at the gates of Memphis. Unaware until the first arrow is shot, the Egyptians become under attack by Antigotians, coming from Cyprus and Malta. The Antigotians take many northern harbors that once fueled the Egyptian economy, and dove down into the valley. The Faalim make expansion slower, but casualties are light, and the cities of Egypt give much wealth to the Antigotian economy, which was lagging until now (+economy). Luckily the Pharaoh is able to escape to his summer palace in Thebes, but the delta is in ruins, and with the Egyptian army hundreds of miles away, it looks dire for Egypt. (-500 Faalim, -500 Spearmen).

Just north and into the Aegean, the Spartans refresh their grip on the region with the final invasion of Minoa. Unable to resist, the Minoans fight with what they have left and finally withdraw to Knosses. Here, a huge urban battle rages on, with much of the city being destroyed in the process. In the end, the Minoans are finally destroyed, and the Spartans take control of the city. (-500 Phalanx, -100 Swordsmen, -300 Spearmen, -10 Galleys)

Afterwards, the Spartans attempt to rebuild trade within the Eastern Mediterranean, but with the Mitanni gone, Judea halfway invaded, and Egypt under attack, trade remains in the back of the mind of most eastern Mediterraneans.

The people of the Isles (please change the name!), now that they have conquered most of Britain, are intent on conquering the seas and spreading trade among the North Sea. In Denmark, the Isles are able to settle a small city, and then expand its holdings to contain most of the Jutland. The Isles people also attempt at taking land in Norway, but are expelled by the Vikings, who then launch more raids upon the coasts of Britain (- Economic Point).

The Swedish, across the North Sea, enact their own war against the Finnish who occupy land near their capital. With little resistance, the Swedish are able to completely destroy the Finnish presence. Also, the Swedish take the battle to mainland Finland, and set fire to the main port, which damages the economy of Finland. Unknown until late that they were under attack, the Finns begin to mobilize their lagging army. (-1,000 Swordsmen)

For some, it was the first time seeing an ocean. For their whole lives, Magadhan peoples had only known the streams, rivers, and lakes of their homeland, most had never journeyed outside and visited the vast expanse that an ocean is. And yet, here were Magadhan soldiers, after conquering the fierce Gujarati, standing on the coast of the vast Indian Ocean.

I suppose we should go into detail on just about how they reached the coast. In a surprising tactic, the Magadhan retreated from the front, bringing in the Gujarati army. But, when expected to stay put, the Gujarati soon returned home. This brought a dilemma to the Magadhans, who’s plans were now ruined. However, taking most of the forces, the Magadhan advanced from the north, and into the western reaches were there are less Gujarati people. Striking south, they met the Gujarati army on a large plain, near the capital. The battle ensued, having scores of arrows fall from the skies, and various, western-like moves that the Magadhans developed at the same times as the Mediterranean world. The army soon falls, and most of the Gujarati retreat to the homeland of Gujarat, the Gujarati peninsula, where they seek refuge. (Magadha: -1,000 Swordsmen, -200 Spearmen, -500 Horsemen; Gujarat: -1,300 Swordsmen, -1,000 Archers, -300 Horsemen)

Hinduism continues to spread in Magadha, becoming the primary religion quickly, and soon giving fuel for the militia to defend against the Aryans, who remain on their side of the Ganges.

Muscovy continues their war against the Scythians, and, with a huge increase in Rurik riders; they finally defeat the last Scythian army on the steppes. Now, with a huge new province to occupy, their main problem is keeping order and control. Meanwhile, the crops begin to bring in great revenue as they are sold to the west and east, and trade makes its first appearance in the Russian steppe. (-800 Rurik Riders)

Suevia is pursued by the Helvettians into the east, where they are finally cornered and mopped up. Meanwhile, most of the Helvettians are stationed in the north, along the new border with the Teutonic Empire. For sure they were going to be attacked, they were quite surprised when no attack came. Instead, the Teutons sent a message that they are friends, and meant no hostilities when they aided in the destruction of Suevia.
