stJNES5.1: From the Beginning

Jason, why didn't Magadha invade that Gangetic country? I expect you to do that this update!

Either way, no orders for this one, just follow mein instructions or rather - due to the different circumstances - do what I wanted to do aside from finishing off Gujarat for that turn.

But, there will be a dark age. Your empire’s will come down soon, and you will have to rebuild. Will it be plague? Civil unrest? Barbarians? Or a combination of all?

Plague, civil unrest, barbarians - all this is secondary. What really brings empires down is stagnation. Stagnation is caused by long periods of peace, and general inactivity. Growing corruption. Basically, empires grow weak, their immunity to barbarians, etc, etc, is lowered down during stable, peaceful times and THEN - only then! - the three aforementioned things could actually destroy them. Otherwise, they are only setbacks, and USEFUL ones at that.

The problem is, most empires currently in existance have not yet begun to stagnate. Practically, they still are expanded, still are challenged, albeit for instance my Magadha is probably beginning to experience such stagnation. Antigot, Carthage, Muscovy as well, I suspect, though Antigot at least not nearly as much.

Just some thoughts.

Maybe thats why he never succeeded in ruining my stjnes5 Portugal? It never stopped and stagnated. Always went on and expanded and grew... So will Antigot!

Well, yes, that's the hopeful version. The problem is, without expansion you will stagnate, and with expansion you will eventually run into a powerful enough an enemy who will, if not destroy, then at least weaken your empire so much that it, too, could be killed off by Jason's three methods.

That's why no empires last forever, I guess...

So I won't go on only with expanding... I'll keep growing the culture and economy and other things in times of peace so I'll never stagnet...

stJNES5.2: From the Beginning
Update 9, 1600 B.C.E.

Deals are made during the hot nights, in the dark city corners of Saba. The royal family, still being held hostage, are now beginning to worry that their army is not obeying their command. A new leader arises in the rebellion, one by the name of Tingis Al. He proclaims that Saba is now a republic, with the nobility class outlawed and elections made by the people will decide who rules the country. The Republican forces execute the royal family, and sweep out of the urban centers and into the Sabanese countryside, liberating all the peasants who once were little more then slaves to the nobles.

Meanwhile, in a small town outside the city, a council of noblemen were meeting, discussing a way they could destroy the rebellion. But what they did not know was this was the last time they would ever meet, and these were the last people they would ever speak with. Araz, a fellow nobleman, executed the withering nobles, and proclaimed himself emperor of Saba. With most of the forces loyal to him, he has begun a campaign to undermine the Republicans and re-establish peace across the land.

But first things first. Araz, an ardent military man, has instead taken the majority of his army to the African continent and waged war against the Kush, the traditional enemies of Saba. Unable to withstand their civil war and the war against Saba, the Kush are quickly beaten. However, their spirits remain high. Peasant rebellion takes place in the heartland of Kush, as the peasants take up arms with what’s left of the army, and fight the establishment. This ties up most of the Sabanese army, and so little is spared to help against another threat.

In the east, along the small Sabanese trading cities of the African coast , the Republican forces gain momentum and are able to beat the small garrison that Araz left here. But all does not go well for the Republicans. From the north, the Nubians attack Saba, pillaging and taking everything in their path. The Republicans try to stop the invading forces, but lack men.

Scythian culture begins to decline as the more and more Muscovites move into the province. Zealous Scythians, though, refuse to allow their culture to be assimilated, and rise up in rebellion against the Muscovites and their encroaching settlers. The region where the rebellion is situated is luckily out in the middle of nowhere, and holds no strategic or economic importance. But it does neighbor new heartland of Muscovite production, the farmland of the Ukraine. Soldiers are immediately dispatched to quell the rebellion, but they have a hard time navigating in the flat plains of the southern region.

Meanwhile, Muscovite forces push northward against the violent Germans who resisted them before. This time, though, the Muscovites use their full military strength, and immediately they break the German resistance. The Germans flee southwest, into unsuspecting neighbors. The Teutonic Order is hit the hardest, their army being in the west, and their forces greatly outnumbered nonetheless. Silesia is also invaded, but more or less the Germans are incorporated into society.

The Swedish begin to flex their military muscle by forcefully assimilating the Viking tribes that separate the Swedish territory. Most of the tribes are defeated easily, in small battles that usually end in complete Swedish domination. But one such battle, in the far north, the Swedish were taken be surprise as a second army, from a different tribe, appeared at their flank. While the battle was still won, the threat of the Viking tribes allying with each other has been realized.

The region of northern Persia is mountainous and almost impassable. This was the belief 200 years ago of course, before the Hittite hordes came crashing down through it. However, nowadays the Persians and not quit to leave their defense up to her. Along the northern border, a series of walls, pits and forts are constructed to form the largest man-made series of structures in the world (excluding roads).

The Umma Line, named after the lake that makes up part of the defense, stretches from the Sumerian border to the Bactrian. To maintain the defenses, it requires nearly a thousand Persian men. The forts are constructed mostly out of stone and mud brick, though many of the fallback defenses are constructed out of wood and dirt. The line is suppose to hold back any future Hittites pushes, but the successfulness remains to be seen as the wall has yet to be attacked.

Meanwhile, the Assyrians march south into Sumer. The government of the country, while against loosing power, felt no need to fight against fellow Sionist forces, and conceited power to the general of the Assyrian army. The Sumerians themselves had something else to say. The side that lost the Sumerian civil war, the non-Sionist forces, again rallied together to expel the Assyrians and re-establish the ancient dynasty of Sumer. Uruk is the place where the starved, shrill and puny army of the rebels met with the war-trained, veteran fighters of the Assyrian army.

As the battle began, the peasant forces quickly broke the Assyrian line as their fervent push, with unspeakable determination, pushed right past the dominating spears and swords. Once the formation was broke, the Assyrians resorted to melee combat as well, drawing swords. Cavalry from the hill tops began to charge, but without a formation to drive into, were pretty much the same as swordsmen.

After the blue streams turned red, and the carcasses of the loosing army set on fire, did the Assyrians continue their march to Ur. The country is thus assimilated into the Assyrian empire, and the King now declares to be the emperor of the new Holy Sionist Assyrian Empire.

Meanwhile, as the Empire is forged in the east, the Jews still fight to keep their lands out of the hands of the Egyptians. As promised help from Assyria comes, the Egyptians are steadily beaten back, until finally they retreat to the Nile. But they did not expect what they found (more on that later).

In the north, Assyria is not idle Messages are sent to religious leaders…Sionist leaders…in southern Hattassus and the Hittite-occupied area of Assyria near the Caspian Sea. The messages call for rebellion and proclamation of allegiance to the Assyrian throne. As rebellions erupt all across the Hittite Empire, the Hittite King is outraged to find the letters and correspondents, and immediately orders the seizure of Assyria’s most prized possessions: the Levantine Coast and Palmyra. Both were relatively easily seized as the Assyrian army remains in Sumer where if fights the Battle of Uruk. The loss of these very important provinces has put a halt on the Assyrian economy, and pretty much puts Assyrian economic prospects in the hands of the Hittites.

Finally, Sionist emissaries continue their journey to convert more followers. Major success is had in the barbarian lands in the south, where the Nabats steadily convert, and set up a Sionist state, Nabatia.

As the Assyrian lands are continually invaded, many Sionists quit their normal jobs or leave their farms and flee to the capital, where they hope to suit up as an Assyrian Holy Warrior. All is up to the man in charge.

As the Egyptians came back to the Nile, they are confronted with riots in the streets of Memphis and the whole Nile delta in disarray. Sionist worshippers have taken to the streets in demonstrations and sometimes-violent protests against Antigot. Immediately the garrison here begins to use hostility to quiet the revolt, smashing them in columns of soldiers and rain of arrows, but it seems to difficult to separate a Sionist Egyptian, an indigenous-practicing Egyptian, and an Antigotican Egyptian. Nonetheless, the Egyptians are faced with a rebellion and a marauding Antigotian army. This is not a good place to be at.

Meanwhile, in the north, the Antigotians are involved in a brutal war against the Gaulic people, who have the one of the largest populations in the world. Fighting this army is not easy, especially when it is as powerful as it is, and has as much support as it does. The Antigotians are enslaving everything in its path, creating many enemies as they conquer the Gaulic capital, and even the growing city of Paris in the north. Making it a bit easier for the Antigotians, an ethnic minority, forever persecuted by the Gauls, is aiding the invading army. The Franks, who were little better then slaves to the Gauls, aid the Antigotians in finding better routes for the invading army, and even reconnaissance and espionage.

But the main battle is quick to come. After conquering Paris, the Gauls counter attacked, driving most of the Antigotian forces back, loosening their grip on Paris, and even pushing them as far as within the sites of the old capital. But as reinforcements arrived and more faalim as well as archers arrives on the battlefield, the Antigotians win the battle of Paris, and push the Gauls into a sparsely inhabited region in the northeast. Again, the Gauls burn and destroy everything in their wake. (Antigot: -3,500 Faalim, -1,000 Archers; Gaul: 3,000 Swordsmen, 500 Spearmen, 1,000 Archers)

Antigotica, the religion of the Antigotians, is greatly sponsored by the King to spread, but does little more then gain followers in Helvettica, Malaga, and Egypt.

The Kingdom of the Isles has been renamed, as ordered by the King and praised by the gods, to the United Kingdoms. UK soldiers are still the same, as is the government and its people.

But, now to the war at hand. In a move of aggressiveness and obvious need to dominate the island chain, the UK has invaded the Pictish lands in Ireland, where little to no garrison was met with. The UK warriors simply marched across the lands and proclaimed them to be under the rule of the King of the United Kingdoms. Unable to offer much resistance, the Picts here accept the rule for what its worth. Meanwhile, the UK invades the homeland of the Picts, where they pursue the army to the capital (name, please). Here, a long siege is instilled, as the city is supplied by the sea (sea next paragraph) and its people read to wait it out. The sieging army, on the other hand, are restless and rebellious, wanting to either attack or leave. The winters don’t make it any easier.

After the Irish campaign, UK boats were sent on a hunting mission for what was supposed to be a small Pict navy. On the contrary, what they found was a large, recently-built, and Viking-influenced navy ready to make combat. Situated on these boats were archers, who were able to set a number of UK boats on fire before the actual battles begun. Of course the fire soon spread to the Pict navy as well, but the battle raged on. Here, in the open sea, the UK retreated, offering their first loss at sea. (UK: -50 Ships; Picts: -30 ships).

Of course the full might of the UK navy has yet to meet with the Pict navy, and only time will tell as to how that outcome will look.

In soft valleys of Burgundy, red blood paints the grass as battle after battle is waged between the Helvetti and the Burgundian armies. All small and rather insignificant battles, they have yet to make it into history books, but the invasion commences with great speed, and the Burgundians are pushed back.

However, heavy casualties are inflicted as the Burgundians keep up resistance behind the lines. Also, many Helvetti soldiers are suffering from some unknown disease which clouds the eyes and stiffens the bones. No one knows what it is right now, but it is spreading. (Burgundy: -1,500 Spearmen, -2,000 Swordsmen; Hevletti: -2,000 Spearmen, -3,000 UU)

The Arabs, continuing their peaceful existence, establish a small town in Nubia, at the coasts of the Red Sea. While the Nubians are reluctant to accept the town, they do so because of the enormous trade that begins. The Arabians have been looking for a new trading partner, and with the Nubians happily filling that spot, the Arabs can rest peacefully tonight.

The Japanese fully conquer the island of Honshu. Their remaining tasks are daunting, the unification of the complete island chain seems a distant pipe dream. But with the power and the intellect to make it happen, it will be no little surprise when Japan rises to the top of the power chain in East Asia.

The Magadhans push out the Aryans who threatened their country, and continue to maintain a strong economic future as trade continues with the other Indian countries and Persia (sorry das, I think I lost your instructions).

Sheep, Alex: Read the economy rules. I am tired of repeating myself.

JJ come online mate I want to discuss something.

to Gaul:
We have warned you to surrender or else we shall slave you but yu refused. We shall cease the inslaving proccess if you will surrender NOW.

to non Sionists in Egypt and the coutnry of EGypt:
Sionsts have rised in rebellion. We ask you all to either join the policemen of the area to help battle this rebellion or keep into your homes. We shall make this battle swift and smart.

to Sionists:
We warned you. Like we warned the gauls. Now shall you feel our wrath.

to Assyria:
We are holding you accused for the massive Sionist rebellion in our lands.

to Hitties:
The assyrians are building up rebellions and create chaos in our countries! We offer you an alliance to rid us of this evil empire!

ooc: The below proclomation has been posted on every Sionist temple's door and in the marketplace of every Sionist town.

HOLY WAR DECLARED, FLOCK TO DEFEND THE FAITH

For years the heathen pagan tyrants of the Hittie throne have maruaded and exluded many of the peoples of the Holy faith of Sionism from the benefits of the temples of the four deities. It is time for the defence of our holy rights and relgion to come to fruition.

All abled bodied soldiers of the faith, flock to your nearest temple. Each temple will have its own regiment and riches shall be given to those who distinguish themselves.

A chance for the creation of a Sionist order in the Mespotamia plain will not be thwarted, together Assyrians, Judeans, Sumerians, Phonecians, Nabbites and even Sionist Egyptians shall come together and form the Great Holy Army and defeat those who seek to destroy the power of the faith.

To those in the occupied regions of Assyria, resist, we shall not rest until all of Sion is free from the barbarian menace that now prevents you from worship.

For those who will not go into battle fight the fight. Do not co-operate with the enemy. Toil to feed and clothe and arm our righeous forces. Ensure that the sinister enemy does not and will not destroy Sionism.

To those not of the Sionist faith that read this, we implore you that so long as you do not interfere in Sionist teachings we shall not interfere or force you to convert. Sionism is a thing of beauty and can only be found in your soul, not rammed down your throat!

Magedla Grahja
High Priestess of the Worldwide Sionist Orders

Erez I need to speak to you too mate.

OOC: ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!

LOL, sorry, Jason, but its the third turn I'm telling you to conquer that little brown Gangetic country. I was supposed to take it long before invading LOTHAL. Then I ordered to conquer it after the fall of Gujarat. Then I told you here, in the thread, to take it this time at least.

Aside from that - great update, and the last parts aren't too bad neither.

From Muscovy
To Silesia and Teutonic Order:
Sorry. We did not expect the Germanic barbarian tribes to invade your countries as a last-resort. We will help you deal with them once we deal with the Scythian insurrection.

Weren't my ships ordered to stop those Islish troops from coming over?

Hmmm..... well.... this is a predicament and all that I can think to do is go OOC and say: RAWWWRRR!

-

I'll think of something to do.... or die. Probably die.

@JasonTheKing one thing, i conquered Ireland and most of the Pictish homeland and i gained no Economy (or *) nor the Picts lost anything....
